  • I am having trouble finding this song on iTunes, is there another title it goes under?

  • @kass525 no that is what it's called. It's found on the album "Oh Holy Fools"

  • "the story of a ship..."

  • why is this song so damn short!

  • "and we share a name on some picturesque grave."

the most romantic thing i've ever heard.

  • This song brings back so many beautiful memories.

  • Harmonica!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i really wanna read that book, the one about the ship.

  • @SilverPlatterProd Me too, do you know the name of the book?

  • @louisaLO absolutly no idea. i dont even know if its a real book. but i hope it is.

  • I can only think of one reason this song has 2 dislikes.. Because it does actually have an ending.

  • What album is this from? I've never heard this song before.

  • @moses1290 The Oh Holy Fools Split with Son Ambulance

  • Do someone know which book he is singing about?

  • My favorite part of the song is from 0:00 to 3:13

  • @Ilovemcrkaitlyn that is so old man.. its not original anymore. give it up.

  • @footballstar0895 Just because a song is old doesn't mean I can't like it 'man' ..

  • @Ilovemcrkaitlyn lol dont get me wrong this song is damn amazing.

i meant that the comment you wrote is not original.

  • @footballstar0895 Oh o.e... Well then.

  • @footballstar0895

I dont know what you talking about, it was the funniest and most original thing I have read in days if not weeks if not my entire life. I'm currently working on a hilarious joke where I somehow relate the number of dislikes to Justin biebers fanbase... man, youtube won't know what hit them.

  • @jordan123321cookson i hope that was sarcasm because that 'my favorite part of the song (start to end time)' can probably be found on most songs on youtube.

  • @footballstar0895

No I am being completly serious?

Man you should have seen this comment I saw the other day, you would have loved it. Crazy shit, it said "one m0:00re time" ... get it? So you can go back to the start... seriously, where do these people get their ideas.

  • @jordan123321cookson lol that right there is a good one, i havent seen that yet.

  • Every time I listen to this song I remember his song You will? You will. you will ... and every time I realize how sincere and real Conor Oberst is <3

  • this song mean so much to me. i'm going to have it be the main song at my wedding, if i am ever not so cynical to believe that marriage is a setup for failure.

  • what album is this on?

  • this is the most beautiful lovesong I've ever heard...

  • I was the one dislike just to be controversial. I do love this song though.

  • 213 likes, 0 dislikes. i can see why... Conner is seriously just amazing

  • 200 likes, 0 dislikes .... thats enough

  • "and we share a name on some picturesque grave."

This phrase has stayed with me for all this time. So poignant.

  • @mexifrida Yessss! Myself, I was completely captivated by the ship metaphor. The most beautiful piece of song lyrics I've heard in a long long while :)

  • holy shit picture at 1:41. just gotta wipe the jizz off my keyboard...

  • Whah.

  • I would like to be in that attic with Conor, seems like a lot of kissing went down there...

  • Such an epic title lol

  • Songs like this make me wish I could click the Like button more then once...

  • This is awesome, does anybody else think it sounds kinda Irish?

  • @GingerandNuts If you think about it, possibly.

  • @Lindseyclaire0890 I wanna meet this attic-girl !!

  • Such a lack of comments. Its hard to believe we have to deal with the same ole' crap of Bieber(Sp? thats how much i care about him). I feel like the last time we had a lyrically brilliant genius was in the days of Lennon. Now Oberst has engraved himself as a true artist. I recommend him to all my friends i try to get it so people can see what music REALLY is. The love and passion for something that can only be expressed in a song is right here.

  • I wish I had Conor's way with words, So I could put how much I love this song into words.

  • Is there a way to get this song directly into my bloodstream?

    Please?

  • If only everyone could appreciate this music more than the crap we shove into our ears >.>

  • the first Bright Eyes song i ever heard..... hooked for life <3

  • you can't listen to this song only once.

  • @lindseyclaire0890, you think that may be intentional? he often has reoccurring imagery, and settings in his songs.

  • @uwonderwhy Hes probably singing about the same girl.

  • @Floydthefuckbag it's definitely possible. Or it could just even be that she doesn't really exist and represents something else. Kind of like Arianette from Fevers and Mirrors. He's just so brilliant it's really hard to say haha.

  • its good to hear a flower like conner oberst bloom in a patch of weeds, like justin biber and miley cyrus, i will always be a huge fan of bright eyes,

  • "and we share a name on some picturesque grave"

idk i love that part :)

  • good song

  • Is this song on an album, or EP, or single?

  • @30degreeseverywhere It's from an EP called Don't Be Afraid of Turning the page. Perhaps the greatest EP ever.

  • I feel so alone.

  • <3333

  • "you are the roots that sleep beneath my feet and hold the earth in place"

    thats so great...gets me everytime

makes me want someone to do that though :(

  • this reminds me a lot of you will? you will. you will you will?...

"we were just kids when i first kissed you in the attic of my parents house."

  • well.... yeah, obviously. :b

  • My thoughts exactly (:

  • @Lindseyclaire0890 I just thought the exact same thing!

  • @Lindseyclaire0890 he does repeat his themes alot.... i kinda like it

  • @Lindseyclaire0890

Yeah, there are a lot of references and similarities between his songs. It kind of makes it feel like it's a true story (which it may or may not be) that he's telling through numerous songs.

  • @Lindseyclaire0890 yes i literally just remembered this song because of listening to you will

  • @Lindseyclaire0890 he writes from experience

  • 2:30 sexyyy...

  • This song is so amazing.

  • Imo, this song is about getting attached.

Too attached, and then the "wind shifts" and he's left bereft of love.

  • story of my life

  • i wish i had never heard of Bright Eyes, so I could listen to all of his songs for the first time again.

  • AHHHH ME TOO!

  • @dptlibertine i say that to myself everyday!

  • @dptlibertine just quit listening to bright eyes for 4 years like I did, and when you really need something (music) to describe exactly how you are feeling tonight then go on youtube and type bright eyes and just starting clicking song after song after song...and then you will feel every feeling sad, happy, depressed, excited and loved all over again. I promise as I am doing right now, it is the greatest feeling in the world to hear that "new" bright eyes song.

  • @krispy923 I'm doing the very same thing, so much nostalgia! Really brings me back...

  • @dptlibertine I'm not sure there's a better endorsement than that. Today is my first intro to Bright Eyes and I can see how what you say is true. So just know there's a newbie like me getting turned on to this amazing music right now...................

  • @dptlibertine i couldn't agree more

  • I love this song its amazing!

Which album is it off of?

  • Its off of a single kinda thing called oh holy fools.

  • hey thanks :)

  • I can't stop listening to this song.

"There was this book I read and loved, the story of a ship who sailed around the world and found that nothing else exists."

How does Conor think up these things?

  • serisouly......you dont know what I would give to be able to write songs like conor! !!

  • Do you think this song is about drugs?

  • Im nto 100% what it is about but i dont think it iis about drugs....I think its more about how he meets this girl then they break up and its hard for him, but he doesnt really know what to do and his life gets a little screwed up

  • i think its about how he was with a girl and how that theyre apart hesrealizing that she means everything to him and he loves her a lot and he wouldnt be satisfied with anything but her. he can really count on her and he wants them to be together forever.

if you listen closely to the lyrics you can tell that you can tell. its just one big metaphor.

  • that's right except for you say "he wants them to be together forever" that may be true but he says "when the wind starts to shift there's NO argument" and " when i'm suffering through some awful drive you OCCASIONALLY cross my mind." he's saying he cares for her but at the same time he accepts that life goes on. the song isn't about how his one desire is to be united with her, but instead he recognizes that she is the supporting structure which he's built his life on. it's hard to explain.

  • i think he's saying that the circumstances have indeed changed but he loves her no less. he says that he thinks about her and hopes she still cares about him. the whole chorus of the song is saying that even though their lives changed his feelings for her are the one thing in his life that doesn't change and it kind of keeps him sane.

  • [continued]

There was this book I read and loved,

the story of a ship...But when the wind starts to shift there's no argument.

he went all around the world and met tons of girls and at some point he realized that she has always been the one. and when the wind shifts [brings him back home] there's no argument that he is in love with her.

    that's just how i see it =]

  • I completely agree

  • Yay you!! =D

  • Good song :)

  • thanks for putting these videos up. conor is amazing!
