Also notice the queen of hearts was very mean to alice before, but now she grew to love and protect her along with the king...the white rabbit was very shy and nervous before but he seems more relaxed and at ease around alice as the movie goes on...and the mad hatter is silly and goofy during the tea party scene, but at the dinner banquet he has matured. In other words, the characters changed Alice lives--while alice changed theirs. And at the end from the song, she has now spiritual friends.
I often wonder if on the end song they are singing as themselves and not as their characters..they seem to be singing from their hearts as if they will never see Alice agai..for real. As this might have been filmed the last day they would be working with the actress....
Fascinating... Disney gets such heap for being so light and fluffy, whereas Disney's versions (animated and live action) seems so much darker. This version most definately does seem wiser though.
@lolitia24 Ah! But remember... An end, is simply a beginning in disguise. The end of this particular part of the story though it was, the end also marks the beginning of new possibilities.
Although this is not how the story ends in the book but its ending is sufficient to melt anyones' heart and oh how I wish this is all true. Surely one day I too can see these familiar faces and enjoy the same adventure as Alice once did.
the jabberwocky used to scare the hell out of me. i just watched tim burton's. both good in there own ways, but the ending in here was better. maybe because i grew up with it, and you get a a direct representation of her through each character. tim burtipn's is just a bunch of crazy characters that don't really reflect alice at all. wouldn't the knight have killed it anyway, with the sword and armor? that's all she does in burton's
The characters in the end singing grew because of Alice and Alice grew from learning from their wisdom.
I bet the friends in the mirror are a reflection of what she knows now.
The queen of hearts was not mean but trying to teach alice that there are tough as nails people out there and that alice needs to be able to tolerate heartless people as a mature young lady.
Thank you for uploading this CBS production! I was 10 when I watched this movie and recorded it on VHS as an experiment - commercials and all! Too bad there aren't any more specials like these anymore! It really sparked my childhood memories!
Geez... this film was always in my memory and thanks to the internet I could finally watch it again after almost 20 years.... =´´´´´) I'm sobbing right now!
It's hard to believe I haven't seen this movie in its entirety since it aired on CBS over 25 years ago. This brings back so many fond memories. Just like Alice I've grown up, but it's interesting to reflect back on my childhood through this movie. It's taught me so many life lessons :)
Besides, seeing cheesy movies and hearing cheesy music, and altogether revistiting our childhood is part of growing up. Its something we know that we can return to whenever we want. We have to remember our childhood to grow up properly. Well, that's what I think.
This was a far better way for Alice to kill the Jabberwock. She didn't use violence - the sword - she confronted her fear face to face and "grew up" by not believing in the dragon.
But remember in the movie 2010 she already been to wonderland before but forgot some things. I am thinking perhaps she had met the jabberwocky once before..and does not remember. But then again...yes killing in non violent ways is great HOWEVER I have to admit I looooove how that climax scene happened in the 2010 version. >) But good point!
@BardandQueen yes i would exepect alice to be locked up in an insane asylum for telling her stories of wonderland and believing in it after her 20's.but thats just me
@AmericanEvita Actually liked this movie, too and this particular scene with her conquering her fear of the beast. The end also touched me as well and this movie and Natalie Gregory has inspired me so much to get the new movie and seeing Alice confronting it. I just loved the new one in showing great acts of heroism with Alice for the first time, which felt great and not only confronting the Jabberwocky but also fighting it and cutting it's head off with the Vorpal sword :)
@BardandQueen Ah! But you've passed through the looking glass. Don''t you recall that time in your life when everything was what it wasn't and wasn't what it was? Where nothing seemed to make sense? That was you entering Wonderland.
Thank you so much for posting this! It brings back childhood memories. I watched both Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass tonight. And I cried at the end song with the Wonderland crew singing. Thank you again, it made me laugh, smile and cry.
well this was nostolagic of my child hood, though now re watching this i do wonder, will the jabberwocky ever fulfill his dream... of getting his ass beat by power rangers rather then lil disney girls
I just noticed that she seems to be holding back tears at the end. I wonder if it was a directors request or if they were real tears. I get a little teary eyed watching this 24 or so years later.
@alycat25 I did notice that, myself. It touched me a lot and made me want to hug her and wipe the tear from her eye:) Anyway, from this movie, Natlie Gregory and this particular scene and the ending part inspired me to get the Tim Burton one and seeing acts of heroism from Alice in not only confronting the Jabberwocky but also figthing it :)
in a way we all go back to wonderland, when we grow up and look back on 'childhood' things and notice little things.. more clearer get a clearer view. Such as when I first watched this I was but four or five and now looking back on it over the years it does become clearer.

A Jabberwocky could also be the demon's or disabilties we suffer on a daily basis.

Love this. Just like Return to Oz. A bit dark, but fun and not infantile. Why are kids movies nowadays so laffy daffy stupid?
That's why I liked Where the Wild Things Are. It doesn't insult kids' intellegence.
Except they did have a lot of cheesy songs in these movies back then.
