I know a creepy-as-fuck indonesion guy that stalks all my female friends on facebook and asks them to fuck him on the beach who's name happens to be Om
This track is absolutely amazing. It's more experimental than the tracks on Infinity yet it encapsulates the whole album?? Oh Dev, your brain!!!!!!!!!
@GodOfEmptiness87 It was part of the original tracklisting of Infinity (Truth/Procressional/Christeen/War/Soul Driven/Om/Dynamics/Unity) but due to time limits he had to change the tracklisting and this was left out. It was actually made after Regulator. ;) There's a song on the new DTP box set called "Om-2011" which might be a reworking, but I ain't listening to it till I have the box set myself, haha :)
@Seligsuper Well, judging by Devin Townsend's philosophy, I would have to say (please don't take offense to this, these are just his words),"You're going up your own ass." I've read a lot of interviews from the guy and one thing he founds his fans doing are looking too deeply into a song and finding a meaning he never meant to implement. His songs are usually very meaningless; he usually just writes something lyrically that keeps him entertained. "And music? Well it's just entertainment folks!"
@UpTheIrons1994 That's a call to look further. That's what's fun about music is finding your own meanings and listening to things that make you feel or think certain things. It's not a stretch that he uses the OM thing a lot and used a word that starts with Om in one of his albums.
@Seligsuper Why not omnipotent omnibenevolent or omnipresent? I'm not saying it's a stretch he did it on purpose, but it seems unlike him. Maybe if Ziltoid was made earlier when he acted a bit more like you're talking about now, but the 2007 Devin Townsend was probably just high off his ass thinking about this idea. Obviously now he's done with drugs(the whole point of the 4 album project),but when he made Ziltoid, he did have some inspiration from drugs. Coincidence makes more sense to me.
@UpTheIrons1994 I just watched an interview last night from 2006 where he said that he stopped smoking. This could just be cigarettes, or it could be marijuana. Either way. I don't think it's a coincidence.
@acefecoo Well, he wrote Addicted because he cut himself from all of his addictions. And marijuana was actually on that list if I remember right. So I think it was just cigarettes for the time.
@UpTheIrons1994 I think what he meant was that he didn't think that fans should force words into his own mouth. I don't think he really cares how seriously we all take it as long as we keep in mind it is our own interpretations.
OM is the syllable and symbol for the sixth Chakra Ajna, also known as the third eye. Don't know if that's what he meant, but wouldn't be surprised at all.
You know, i used to dislike all those "OMG WHY IS THIS GUY NOT POPULAR IN THE MAINSTREAM" type comments, but after browsing around stuff like Taylor Swift and Kei$ha out of boredom and morbid curiousity... well, I guess i can't help but join that chorus. I just don't think the world as a whole will ever be ready for Devin's genius.
No-one human can possibly make this transcendal lush music so I have come to the conclusion that Dev is from another planet of talented funny fucks. What a dude!
When I'm on my iPod I sometimes fund myself wondering what I should listen to, should I listen to Devin townsend, the Devin townsend band, or the Devin townsend project. I just cannot decide.
@Wabaanimkii Hahah I avoided that by just naming it all Devin Townsend, you will never have the problem again and you can put it on random and get songs from every project! Although it might be fun deciding as you know it is all gonna be badass!
@acledmaiden a few people keep saying this but they're produced completely differently in noticably different styles. regulator as a feeling felt a lot more negative but had the same forms of melodic weirdness to it. I'd use vocabulary except i have no musical vocabulary, this is just what it feels like to me. Ocean Machines is a lot different to the feelings of infinity, physicist or terria.
FURTHERMORE, Addicted: "Let's be like the mountain! Om! om! Om!" Is absolutely obvious in that there is a mountain in the Himalayas referred to as "Om" who's snowdrift forms the symbol.
Considering he's mentioned "Om" much more than once (Check Skeksis for example "Om!! Om!! OM!!! BE CAREFUL WITH POLYNOMIAL COLORS... THERE CAN NEVER BE AN ANSWER, we can never factor OM!!") And he's referenced Indian and hindu culture before (Namaste) That's probably where he got the idea from this song.
Just to clear up where this came from, OM was originally a demo from the album Infinity. It was not recorded to be on Addicted. It may have been planned to be remade for Addicted, I don't know, but it was recorded a while ago.
I fucking agree with 666aumetaldrummer666. And it's all thanks to the bastard that is mainstream society why he's underrated. People are afraid of what they don't understand.
Om = Infinity. This is really a "title track" for Infinity if you wish. Weirdly it's also the letters that stand for Ocean Machine or even Ocean Machines which was a demo track too. All confusing but Dev is never that straight-forward with his music anyway!
Theirs something wrong with the sound here, Im listening to this on headphones and the panning is weirs, it doesn't sound like this on the Chrstine EP......................???
OM and Ocean Machines are different. Om was the very first musical note or something, something about hindu's and the mount of Om. Oceans machines is a completely different track and in my opinion superior, (im not a big fan of saturated tracks, particularly this one despite being a massive devin fan... Before Accelerated Evolution and The New Black at least..) Im yet to hear the new stuff, the newer project sounds a lot like Terria but with less frantic moments like Mountain, bits of the Fluke.
Wicked track. Devin is one of the best musicians and producers alive today. Not many people can touch him or his music. From SYL battery to Ocean Machine mellowness. Why they dont play his more "radio friendly" tunes on the radio is beyond me. Turn it up and bathe in the dense sound!
as awesome as this song is, you can see where he had the riffs for regulator, not badmouthing the song as it is really cool but just pointing out the similarity of 6% of the song, ALL HAIL DEV : )
Let me tell all you fucks something right now........ Devin Townsend produces magic. This man is the most underrated musician in modern music. No one comes close. A true fucking LEGEND........
Never heard this song before, thanks so much for uploading! What an odd song though, I heard bits of Christeen and Truth in there.
Wonder what the title's meant to be about though. I always thought 'Ocean Machines' as well, as he seems to have a recurring theme going with that, love to know what he actually means by 'Ocean Machines'
What a very odd man he is, still an utter fucking genius though.
