Keith Moon is generally considered the most influential rock drummer... makes sense then, that when looking for a model on which to base a caricature of a drummer, that Keith would be the choice (his over-the-top behavior would certainly close the deal).

Oh, and I hate to break it to you; but Animal doesn't actually play the drums (I can almost hear the collective gasps followed by an awkward silence :-)))
