People who say Ricky Hatton wasn't good know nothing about boxing. The guy was a beast, period. He gave Mayweather a hard time: quick legs, reflexes, punching power and strong chin. He had it all and his record is astounding.
If you know nothing about boxing then shut up.

Hater's gonna hate. Hatton was a BEAST in his prime. He dominated the Junior Welterweight division and gave Floyd one of his toughest fights to date. Hate him all you want but there's no denying that Ricky was damn good.

He lost to Mayweather and to Pacquiao. He shouldn't be ashamed because 80% of past fighter would have had their hands full and possibly lost to those two - especially Pac Man! Hatton has lost only twice, apart from that he has a respectful record a high KO ratio and was a world champion. Take nothing away from him - he was a great fighter.

@MrBumboclart u dont need to state the obvious but maybe you should read closely to what i was saying, he lost by knockout twice in a row... that is my point that is a severe blow to any boxer and out of the fighters you mentioned i dont think any lost twice in a row without atleast a win in between..

@MrBumboclart i respect what you are saying but anyone who knows boxing knows this, if you lose twice in a ROW BY KNOCKOUT, there is something badly wrong most boxers retire after consistent losses, and im sure hatton would agree why do i say this?? ask yourself what was hattons last fight?? peace

there was no challenge. pacman was too fast for hatton, and his usual aggressive tactic didn't work with pacman. just a couple of rounds until the inevitable ko.

This really goes to show how hard it is to be a professional boxer/combatant.
Ricky's using some good lateral movement around the bag, decent head movement, and relentless techniques throwing combinations with good conditioning.
And despite this, he gets flogged by the worlds best.

@ImperialDecree im just a firm believer that since 24/7 started everyone has jumped on the boxing bandwagon. know nothing about styles of boxing. im chinese and in a way i look up to pacquiao and what hes done, but anyone can say hes had a distinct struggle against slick defensive fighters and yes mayweather will run for 12 rounds but he will get the decision!

@justin8910 when has he had a struggle with a "slick" defensive fighters? unless you count marquez as defensive. just because he had trouble with jjm doesn't mean he'll have trouble with floyd necessarily. it was just jjm's style in general. he's fought other counterpunchers and beaten them. floyd has never fought anybody like pac either. will his defensive and counterpunching mastery coup with the offensive and also counterpunching mastery of pacquiao. that's up to our imaginations for now.

@brandeezy108 i agree with some points that you have made. over the years marquez has become way more offensive but when he fought pac, he was seen as a very defensive boxer. However, size of the boxers aside when they fought, i had may outboxing marquez. if we watch the first 2 rounds of pacquiao cotto, before cotto got tired etc. pac shows miguel a lot of respect and i think this is gonna be the same in the mayweather fight. Think pac will fight the way floyd wants to.

@justin8910 the thing is floyd likes to fight slow paced fights. whether or not he can make pac's pace slower is up for grabs. but if he cannot slow down pac and make it a technical boxing match floyd would be up against it. floyd can't beat pac with power or speed, unless that speed is coming from counters which would be very useful against pac. floyd doesn't have the power to actually hurt pacquiao. he's have to play it EXTRA smart to win. and pac can also counterpunch.

@brandeezy108 i totally agree with some of the points made, i believe pac to be a fearless fighter and even if he gets tagged he will keep coming forward however, as we saw in another great fighter dlh he started off amazingly in the first 6 rounds or in another instance judah, they play the thinking mans game and become more aware of counters, thus slow their pace as they are wary of the counters coming.

Hatton trains very hard for matches and he never take any fighter for granted, easy or tough fighters! He has heart, and most fighters nowadays don't! Think about Mayweather, a great boxer, but a lousy fighter. He lost to Pacquaio because the Pacman was too much for him.

@expressivechild He does train hard. Trained a couple of times with him a while ago and boy when he finally starts training he does train hard. In my opinion i reckon he could have beaten Mayweather. He'd only be able to beat Mayweather if the fight was over here in Britain and with Pacquiao he just hasn't really got a chance unless he just layed of and tried to box himself into the inside.

It's not difficult to tell that this man really have heart and courage but I am really hoping he'd get back in shape soon and fight again. He can't retire like this... One bad defeat don't mean nothing, anyone can lose a fight but no one can stop you from bouncing back and fight your way up again. Some poeple say Hatton is overrated and I find it absurd to say so.

Yeah he definitely has heart and courage and I hope he would fight again but i wouldn't like to see him get hurt again so part of me wants him to retire and stick with promoting and work with the new generation of boxers. If he was to fight the person I'd like to see him fight would be Mayweather, I know he can beat him but only if the fight was in Britain. He ain't overrated, he just doesn't get the respect he deserves!

@DEFEAT0001 Do you realise Archie Moore had to endure 80 odd fights back in the 50's when boxing wz a tougher game, before he got a shot at the l/heavyweight crown? Then went on to become an all time great. That wz when there wz only one champ per weight class.Hatton had a very padded career and let's be honest, the WBU is 5th in significance compared to the others? I'm not slating him, merely putting things into perspective.

@LazyDuckable i'm only 15 right now and i'm not pro(yet). but that's the thing about being pro. people will criticize him. i think he was a great boxer with many great accomplishments. i think he was a true champion if you ask me. but the reason i don't like him anymore is because he worked so hard and threw it all away by getting into drugs. i'm not comparing myself to him or his accomplishments. i may or may not achieve more. we'll see. i'm just ragging on him for being a coke head is all.

@wasasa666 if he wants, that's fine. but he's hurting his family and those around him. i'm not worried about him. but it's those around him that are hurt. there are better ways to quit boxing other than taking the path of drugs. if he truly loved boxing he would have went out in a more respectable manner. i wouldn't doubt that hatton had fans that were children. how would they feel. how would HIS children feel? he can hurt himself life but he's his loved ones in the process, which is bad.
