I think that people have amnesia now a days. People forgot evidently that the deficit increased under Reagan to the point, that it went higher under his presidency than any other president before him in history, COMBINED! Also, people forgot that he negotiated with terrorists by trading arms for hostages in Iran-Contra and granted illegal immigrants amnesty in 1986. Not to mention, he raised taxes continuously through his presidency. But I guess time heals all wounds....

Egypt was just one stop on Obama's apology tour of Muslim countries. It is the job of every administration to asses risks around the globe to insure national security. @dundura123 Mubarak was sick and everyone knows he intended to pass his presidency to his son. The last few "elections" were marred by scandal and fraud. He changed the constitution to make it difficult if not impossible for anyone to run against him. There are an abundance of signs that our ally in the middle east could be heading for trouble and a competent leader with intelligent advisers would have had some sort of coherent response prepared. He looked like the amateur that he is.

@bluegsp i think I am going to have to end with this....I agree that the admin initial reaction was off message and inconsistent...and yes..dictators are normally succeeded by their children...Egypt and Mubarak particularly are tricky because they place the long-term and short-term goals of US foreign policy at odds with each other...Conde Rice spoke at length about it during a speech in Cairo...personally I to be more judicial in my assessment of these complex issues...
