  • Smulyan was playin' his bootie off!

  • Sorry, that's a low A bari, and definitely not the Conn he currently plays, which is a low Bb, of course. Not that it matters much.

  • Screemin' Joe Rodriguez is on lead trumpet. I saw him with Woody's band in '79 at El Paso High School! Go Joe!

  • nice barry sax solo at the minute mark

  • I just performed with Gary at my school. It was fucking awesome.

  • aaaaaaaa i play saxophone, this makes me hate my self for being a disgrace to them though...

  • Gary is definitely using a different set up than what he's using currently. No otto link there. Curious if that's the same horn also. What a sound that guy has..

  • He's playing a low A horn in this video, looks to be a selmer VI. He's playing a low Bb transitional conn 12M these days. He sounds great in this video anyway though!

  • It's a early yamaha baritone. I used to play one just like that in college... not the freindliest horn to get around... Garry sounds awesome on it though!!!

  • So true...Gary can get around anything. His otto link 11* is just proof of that

  • This video is from the 1970's or 1980's. Garry plays a conn at the moment but in this video he is playing a yamaha baritone sax not a conn.

  • In this video he is playing an old yamaha.

I recognise it because I used to play the exact same model. It was a horrible intrument to play. Garry sounds very good on it though.

  • @liamjazz haha I was just with him for the last few days and I asked him about that yamaha horn. Indeed, he sounded very good at it, but he says it was a "big piece of garbage" :)

What a damn player he is, I hope he keeps coming here :)

  • Woody is playing a clarinet, not a soprano sax in this one...

  • Bob, keep posting more of this concert. I was a student of Dave Lalama's for 8 years and this is such a treat for me everytime you put more of this stuff up. Thanks.

  • Nice to hear some early Smulyan :-)

  • Hair today, gone tomorrow.

  • hahaha.... nice
