They really suck, but story is great. Simple idea, great execution. It is work of Richard Mathesson, who is most known by his only novel I, legend. If you are familiar only with movie adaptations with Charlton Heston (titled Omega Man) or Will Smith I strongly suggest you to read the book. It is great book.
Love Matheson's stuff, but I prefer this ending over the one in the short story. Seems more horrifying realizing you basically just killed yourself out of greed.
the original short story is different and have a completely different morale, in that the woman also pushes the button, the next day her husband dies as he gets pushed down on the train tracks and the woman gets the precise amount of money she had been promised by the stranger, only she receives them as insurance money due to her husbands accident. As she asks the stranger. "why my husband?" the stranger answers. "did you really know him at all?"
Then it was not a twilight episode.. Though it could have been other shows, there is a lot of shows like the twilight zone inspired from it such as. "Outer limits." and "Night gallery." to mention if we move all the way up into the eighties and nineties where there is tons of kid spin offs such as "Goosbumps." "Tales from the crypt" and "The crypt keeper." not to forget that short movies do happen to be an artform in itself made by all early movie makers, so it's entirely possible
The first time I saw this I was blown away by the actors' performances...I thought Mare's was BRILLIANT, and I've searched for this for months, long after having seen it. I just could NOT remember her name! Brad Davis's performance is ALSO extraordinary, and it's just sad that he's passed already at such a young age. I bet hardly anyone knows that the remake of the movie 'THE BOX' was based on this! SO GLAD I FOUND THIS, by accident...(I didn't even remember that it was a 'TWILIGHT ZONE!)
@McPfoot Watched it again. I must have missed it the first time. Not as obvious as the movie. But I suppose Twilight Zone had to condense the story into 20 minutes.
@YQuiensera The quy said it was qoinq to be "Offered to someone that she doesn't know!" so therefore the next person who pushes the button will kill her, because she killed the last person who killed someone else and so forth!
@YQuiensera I get the ending in the movie. Actually I loved the movie ending BUT this Twilight Zone episode makes no real sense.I understand it because Iv'e seen the movie but if I hadn't I wouldn't have gotten this ending.Or did I miss a video? There was only 2 wasn't there?
@Geilomeilo2 There is a risk that she will eventually die, because someone who doesn't know her will have the chance to push the button, make money, and cause someone to die whom that person doesn't know. It is a small risk. But it still exists and it scares her. And so it should. The whole moral point is how little people care for each other and value money over human life.
If everybody keeps pressing the button and kill someone who they don't know, eventually there will be no people left.
@TeryoLawVideos I don't think that's the point of that line, I think what they meant is that the next person who pushes the button will kill the last person who pushes the button.
@Brelm That is just a simpler version of what I said. O_o The next person who pushes the button isn't going to kill the last person who pushed it for sure, but it's what could happen. Its not a absolute. That's part of the fear, living and never knowing.
@TeryoLawVideos I'm just not entirely sure, the way he said it "I can assure you it will be offered to someone whom you don't know". And really, wouldn't you ALWAYS be at the same amount of risk no matter what? Someone is always is going to have that button, so saying that there's a "small chance" the next person who pushes it MIGHT kill you out of 6 billion other people wouldn't be very threatening, nor would it be a very dramatic twist. The next person to push it will kill the last one.
I think the stutter might be intentional, like the husband's had it her whole marraige. Another aspect of her crappy life to make her want $200,000 to make it better. You gotta figure if it wasn't in the script the director would have yelled "Cut!", walked over and slapped the guy or something.
alguien me puede decir como se llama el capitulo de twilight zone pero a color .en donde se detiene el tiempo, y que al final esta por caer una bomba o un misisl no recuerdo bien. pero lo e buscado mucho y no lo encuentro.
Was it New Twilight Zone or The new "Outer Limits" episode that starred Kevin Nealon as a physicist inventor who created a time tampering device that the government wanted to use as a weapon?
In the original short story, the husband dies. Reason being that they are so disconnected as a couple, that she 'doesn't really know him'. I prefer this ending though.
It's a reference to the impersonal political danger our society plays with every day. We don't care how someone we don't know is affected by our actions, taking rights away from group X or money away from group Y as long as it benefits us. It's a simple warning, don't be so foolish to think once you begin to take away one person's rights that it won't one day come back to you. We could learn a lot from this in politics today, but we would rather just push the button.
Ok, I wasn't expecting that to happen at the end, I thought the husband was going to die, coz the 2 of them are so disconnected that they 'don't know each other'
and what if someone was thinking just like you were then see you comment *which was @ the top of the page* with u saying "hey it doesnt happen"...that would be a spolier
Look at the bright side people... when she dies, and we all know she will when someone else pushes that button, he gets all that cash and be set free from her unappreciative ass. He could go to Vegas and spend it on weed and hookers. Hell, he might even have enough money to have that stutter of his fixed.
What makes me laugh is that all 3 actors were well known at one time but in this, it's far below par. And the actor that plays Steward also appears in The Box. The original story is posted on IMDB for anyone that wants to read it. Just go to The Box on that site and someone posted it. Nice story but short and predictable.
