  • @digital262 Thats Roxy out of eastenders ....Aka Rita Simons !! ......If not its bloody good look alike :)

  • Still better and inovative than any new house made...

  • @AORCrazy hmmm...i disagree...old house was fuckin ace...but seriously there are still gems nowadays...check out felguk for starters...:)

  • @happystudio1 hmmm... i disagree also... if you have ears and common sense you'll hear the huge difference between this music and now days house. The old house was more close to hip-hop and even rock. After 1990 it all changed... those so called DJ's started using those boring as hell kick drum loops, songs became endless and of course, you needed drugs to listen to that. You can take your house, this is my house.

  • LOl nice miming.... not

  • I have the gangstar boogie remix on vinyl.

  • Sadly TOTP has been laid to rest, buried next to decent music. Modern stuff is shit, and I'll feel sorry and ashamed for anyone buying it.

  • i lived in rio de janeiro at the time..... great memories--- went off to new york once again after that. great tune....bass at its best... burst them speakers :-)

  • Wicked song - nearly as good as the scientist or stakker humanoid. One thing though - never could stand all the smiley face associations. Just plain cheesey!

  • Wooooowww. Beat beat!

  • Kwist niet dat de Smiley voor het New-Beat scene bij deze groep onstaan is.

  • thanks 'youTube' . I found this song after 20 years.

  • @0452287173

    no worries :)

  • @webm8music the best

  • @0452287173 me too ... today many time searching

  • The uy on the decks IS bomb the Bass, he is Tim Simeon from London. The otehrs are just dancers. He was just a kid when he wrote this.

  • This is from the roxy, itv's attempt at a top of the pops style show presented by david the kid jenson

  • love it!!!!! Now, it seems really weird, though......... id fire the male dancers

  • I was a mere 15 when this came out, and from that point on I was a dance music fanatic, while everyone else listened to U2!

Brilliant stuff, such a great collective of talent, Bomb Da Bass, S'Express, Neneh Cherry, Coldcut, Cookie Crew, D'Mob, great great days, hard to believe it's all 23 years ago!

And I've been a dance/electronica listener ever since.

We really were privy to the birth of a new music genre, lucky luck us!

  • LOL! i remember this from my school days, so many memories! gr8 tune

  • still got the 12inch copy and the into the dragon album with the cut up version of cut dis, CLASSIC!

  • Love the crack whore on vocals :P

Not sure what the fuck those two are doing with guitars tho :/

  • Fantastic document!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks!

  • Pure classic, god I miss these days so much.

  • classic tune!!! great, danceable beat

  • Class tune! Does anybody know the name of the girl in this clip??

  • @rni75

not sure, looks a bit like a smack head in the video lol. Great video though, would be nice to know who she was

  • @Webm8com

Thats to bad, would indeed be nice to see whats she up to now.

  • tim simenon ....a great inovator forget the miming, i guess they needed something visual

  • Eita porrra ahuahuahua Nice!

  • E muito legal relembrar

  • nota 100000000000

  • very nice rythm and very good performance

  • bomb the bass, rock this place !

  • haHAhHAHAH . all these people bitching about what is obviously a stage show and not the people producing and mixing and scratching the music . this music being made and presented is by dj's using the turntables as instruments while the physically manipulate it with there hands . depr derp derp . sure it'd be cooler if they didn't have them up there with guitars and the fact that do have em is poking fun at people that don't understand what there are doing or how there music is made .

  • Four people playing guitars and keyboards, producing only an electronic bassline and beat. Singer standing well clear of the microphone. All just a bad joke best forgotten I think!

  • Great track, still got a mint 12" of it somewhere, but I hate these cheesey videos of people pretending to play guitars etc when the track is obviously just samples put together

  • @MrAsrgr

WØW, what a bunch of suckers INDEED,pretending to sing and play. Got nothing against play backing , but this looks ridiculous.

Those were the days no one knew what samples were, so they thought they could fool the masses.

  • @PAULLONDEN Yes this look ridiculous, but there are few points to clear out...Tim Simenon, the guy who produced the track and choose all the samples seems not to worry about the bottleblonde afros dancing with instruments they couldn't play...it was just a performance to the masses...musicians like me or maybe you can be shocked by it but normal average people don't give a damn about it.It was 1988,the summer of love in the UK,everybody doing tracks in bedrooms with a thrill to release them out

  • @AndreVlaamsValle Get your point, don't get me wrong ,I like what Bomb the Bass were doing, especialy when The Amiga "Xenon" video game ,was soundtracked by them.It might've been the 8T's,but it wouldn't have hurt them to aim for a little credibility, there were enough acts from that period that survived, without kowtowing to the masses.Still..compared to the acts we are forcefed today, thisis fucking HOLY,and remains a cool track anyway.

  • Being heavily into "Japan" I really hated this and the whole London 1989 scene at the time and couldn't wait to leave, though ironically Simenon heavily sampled Japan's "ghosts" on the follow-up to this!

  • Fuckin' great tune! I remember seeing this on the tele as a kid and I was totally blown away, I couldn't stop listening to it - it was the first record I bought. This was the tune that got me into music in a big way - hip hop, acid, techno - then years later jungle, dnb, grime and dub step. I still love it!

  • too right!!

  • @webm8music I'm with you mate. Me too. I was 11 years old at the time.. Classic tune. Not sure my hairstyle at the time was a classic though :) Happy days..

  • @booiebowers

    lol

  • @Sargist

Haha, me too !! The first single i buy when i am 10 years old

  • the video is gay, bird is fit though

  • wooooow, young Tim! awesome track! ;)

  • Jeez this is all samples, so what are these pricks doing with guitars?

  • i'm from Cuba and i remember i was crazy for this song.... thank you for upload the video

  • Right you are Andrewt008, this was on The Roxy (you can even see the Roxy sign to the right of the stage), I remember watching this on there at the time and buying Beat Dis the next day (I also remember the record had a flyer inside for the film Adventures in Babysitting god knows why?). Cheers for taking me back webm8music.

  • Great Tim Simenon

  • clip trip

  • This is awesome!!!! They are from London, correct? Is that Tim Simenon on teh turntables??? Thsi is an awesome jam.

  • yes yes

  • I worked with Tim Simenon in 1987 in the singles department of Tower Records, in Piccadilly, just before this was released!!!

  • Pretty cool, was he a nice guy and heavily into music. No idea what he is upto now though

  • He was ok. Obviously seriously into deejaying at The Wag at the time. I was only there for about 6 months but the thing I remember was working late shifts and spending most of the time spinning tunes & mixing!!

  • Good stuff, must have been one big party there!

  • Wasn't it still HMV in those days?

  • funkyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • I have a question for all Bomb the Bass fans :

at 0:41, she says "to the funky beat". But in the CD version (into the dragon), she clearly says "to the crazy beat".. how come?

  • ah yes not noticed that before! no idea from me though :o(

  • as far as I remember "to the crazy beat" version is released only as U.S. 7"mix...

original mix had "to the funky beat" lyrics, why I don't know...

  • get down to the funky beat

  • in the CD version, she says "get down to the crazy beat"

  • Maybe it's a sample and they decided not to pay for it on the cd release. And to avoid any trouble they just recorded it as that.

  • Is a sample from The Funky Four+1 - Feel It

    watch?v=NRhUjczRl-Y

Wich is a remake of Babe Ruth - The Mexican

    watch?v=KTPE2pNtKWQ

  • Used to have a tee like those, it said 'acid house blows your mind'. It did and I wish now I'd kept it! :o)

  • the man at the back with the white baseball cap tim simenon i went to school with him

  • This was on a programme called the roxy, it was a alternative to top of the pops.

  • I love this tune and the smiley t-shirts.

  • so defines a time in music

  • class tune! bomb the bass was top..

  • Wicked! Thanks for posting - "Into the Dragon" era BTB stuff is rare to find, particularly a live/PA like this!

Check the acid house tees, the teased hair blonde on "vocals" while Tim orchestrates from the decks! This era was the shiznit. Mix Master Mike dropped "Beat Dis" at Melbourne's Parklife festival last year and the place went mental... still sounds as fresh today as it did then!

  • No worries, glad to post, wish i had more like this. 80's were fab for sure! Still lovin MARS - pump up the volume

  • I think Tim was 20 yrs old on this vid..

  • quite possibly. I dont know how old they were when the record was made.

  • Tim's turned 40, 2 weeks ago.I sent him greetings ;)

  • But the video should be from 1988/89 I suppose..

  • Ahh right, cool stuff, i did'nt know. I see you like the DM stuff too, we went to the DM bar in Tallinn Estonia the other week.

  • I heard about this bar.I'm hoping to visit this place someday,it's not that far away from where I live really. Yeah Depeche have always been my beloved band since I could only remember and I'm glad Ben Hillier is producing another record for them ;)

  • good old eighties, god bless!. great job posting this, thanks!

  • No probs, glad you liked it and brought back some memories. Hope to get some more up here in the following months.

  • best vid ever

  • You don't see many live appearances of early Bomb the bass stuff great find mate !! cheers for posting

  • No worries. I've been going through all my old VHS tapes and putting them onto mini-dv then into the mac. Got loads of old rave stuff to go up on my site one day. Glad you liked the video, nice to make people happy :)
