Such an inspiring+brave guy. :) I been checking out videos on this product because its coming to Canada soon and I'd like to try it although I'm kinda scared about the whole popping thing once u put on the 'Pod'. does anyone know exactly how long it takes to get use to it? Or is it pretty much how your body handles it?
@kylerankinmusic I think it varies by user. If you are already pumping, it shouldn't take long. If you are on injections, it's a matter of getting all your settings matched up with your insulin needs.
i love your videos! i'm getting omnipod in a few weeks, and am slightly nervous about the whole thing..caleb's confidence about his diabetes management with omnipod makes me feel much more comfortable with starting insulin pump therapy. keep up the good work!
Great video! I was diagnosed with type 1 when I was 12. I am 30 now. I went from taking four shots a day to getting the OmniPod a week ago and love it. Wish I had one when I was younger. You're a smart kid Caleb! Keep up the good work!
I would recommend at least trying a pump. You can always go back to shots if it's not for you. I totally understand being reluctant though. For us, it was a not brainer and the remoteness of the OmniPod has been great. My hubby worked some magic at the show in Bethel. The meeting was brief, but memorable!
He is such a cutie. I was diagnosed when I was 1. I'm 15 now. Still on shots because I'm unsure about the pumps. I like the shirts they are wearing. How did you win passes to meet them?
Caleb, What's up my little buddy. What are you doing with all this rain?
Great job on showing everyone how easy it can be to use the omni pod. Looks like your doing great. Be nice to your Mom and Dad this summer!!! Can't wait to see more videos.
Actually there was no requirement at all that I am aware other than the fact that he was type 1. I had to provide his log of BGs and carb intake and insulin doses. The doctor sent in the medical necessity form and we were contacted shortly thereafter with approval.
I'm a type 2 diabetic, and I take 3 shots a day. Did caleb have 2 take a certain amount of shots in order 2 use the omnipod, and I there a certain number of shots u have 2 take before u can use the omnipod.
Yes & no. Compared to Caleb's strict meal plan on injections, he has tremendous freedom. He now eats at various times & does not need in between snacks. The amount of carbs he eats from meal to meal varies significantly. However, we are careful about what he eats bc certain foods make his blood sugars erratic & we try to space his meals by at least 2 hours. So, no pumping is not perfect, but it is a huge improvement to injections & w/ careful planning Caleb can eat what & when he wants.
Caleb is very active. Most significantly swimming and tball/baseball and he used to play soccer. It has never been an issue for sports. However, he hasn't played contact sports, but I think there are things that people do to work around that too (ace bandages or other things to secure it). Runners use an elastic band to cover it on the arm, etc....
Hahaha when his pPDM beeped, I am so used to that sound, I thought it was ME and was like, "It's not time for that yet...." :P

@lifesaver173 As Caleb describes, sometimes it does and sometimes not so much. He always feels it, but the intensity of the pinch varies.
