Irene Scharrer plays Chopin (Etude opus 10/5 and Impromptu no. 1)

Excellent playing...amazing how many fine pianists Matthey produced, all magnificently equipped technically, with beautiful sound. As Julian said, so many of them women...he must have liked the ladies! Irene Scharrer was a close friend of "Uncle Tobbs" greatest student, Myra Hess, and the two often played two pianos together, or so I have read...wonder if any recordings of their ensemble performances exist?

Fluent and attractive playing (especially in the G-flat study). Irene Scharrer's is a name I've known for many years but I don't recall hearing her playing before. She can certainly join the pantheon of distinguished Matthay-ites ( and it's strange how most of them seem to be women ... )
