  • Yes the LITTER. Wikipidia them and find out all you need. Maybe you should have done that first?

  • Been seeing him live since the late 60s in Savoy Brown. Saw him a few years ago in Memphis and he continues to smoke on that guitar. He and his band really burned the place down, especially on this song. Long live Kim Simmonds.

  • Great music, I agree that this is indeed a great tribute to the n.y. fire and rescue departments. Always ready to put their lives on the line for the American people. As far as talent goes, savoy brown was, and still is an all-time favorite of mine. every guy in this group was smokin' hot , a real killer band...huichol53.......

  • This song puts me in a trance...I love it!

  • I'm 32 and have heard a lot of music and enjoy a wide variety of music. I just heard this song today on a local Pittsburgh Station (WDVE). Now I have some new music to download.

  • Hell, I'm 63 yrs. old and have been a huge Savoy Brown fan since the mid 60's. Dropped into a bar on Battery Street in San Francisco in the late 70's and to my surprise, there was the band performing. They shredded that night!

  • I'm 52 yrs old and have liked Savoy Brown for over 30 yrs.....this LP & song (Hellbound Train) is/are my favorite....to:allkindsagirls.....Rock on and enjoy it with a spoonful of good d#$e///lol....enjoy any/every way

  • Woot, Savoy Brown @ Bridge Street Live in Collinsville, CT Fri.7/29/11

  • Who is the bass player?

  • Never seen Savoy brown. This Aug.,I will see John Mayall on a Friday night, then the following day,I get to see this guys jammin' their style of awesome BLUES! I am hoping they close with this song, one of my favorites!

  • Yo sooahdave! So did I! No trouble here BRO!

  • Love the video. Definitley not the 70s. Look at the clothes, the short hair. And these guys are no spring chickens. Still rocking out, though.

  • Saw these guys at the "Highway 99 Blues Club" in Seattle last Tuesday. Fantastic show! Great job to 99 for bringing them in.

  • I saw them in concert at the fillmore east

  • I see nothing in the lyric pointing to Viet Nam. Are you sure? Please share your source.

  • I want to buy this album..believe it or not I have a record player in perfect condition...oops I just gave away my age. I love this song.

  • Savoy Brown's ode to the debacle in Viet Nam... Hellbound Train. Originally released in 1972. At the time, I was at Camp Eagle, Phu Bai, Rep. of South Viet Nam traveling down Highway #1 with high echelon maintenance radar/night vision equipment slated for the field to spot, detect and "smell" the enemy before they assassinated our boys who hadn't the foggiest idea why they were, in country, in the first place.

  • Kim,

Like a great wine! La creme de la creme! I was introduced to your music in Nova Scotia in the early 70's, and even had a chance to speak to one night at one of your shows at the Zoo in Winnipeg (1979?). Thanks for all of this fabulous music.

  • I've seen Savoy Brown many times over the years and Hell Bound Train remains a favorite track of mine. Keep it running Kim Simmonds. I love it! What year is this video from? Looks like 1970"s. Kim was putting out some great live shows from his private collection on CD. They are very good too. He does live versions of some of the classic 1970"s albums.

  • I 've worn out 8 track, L.P., reel to reel, casset, and a few C.Ds., on the Hell Bound Train.

  • Having Savoy Brown on 8-Track, or anything, doesn't make you old...it makes you cool. My first 2 8-Tracks I owned were FOGHAT-RockNRoll Outlaws & LYNYRD SKYNYRD-Second Helping. Thanks Mom & Dad. I just listened to Savoy Brown-Blue Matter on Cd today. No matter the format...keep it alive! Rock on....

  • 8 tracks just means you grew up hearing all the great music of the era you guys born later are also lucky to have you tube we all are

  • 8 Track was terrible. I remember when they came out. It did let you have music in the car. I had a wealthy girlfriend. She had reel to reel and a Shelby Cobra. That was great.

  • Hellbound train was my first rock album. It was in 1972. Nowadays, i'm listening to godsmack, all of their 5 albums are in my playlist. Four decades and still rockin'.

  • @renpar100 you're goin in the wrong direction, my friend, im a youngster who started off with godsmack, till i awoke and realized that them, puddle of mud, drowning pool, etc, are missing that something that defines what it means to play the six string.

    soul.

  • this is the True SAVOY BROWN BAND!!

  • saw them at the sunshine inn in asbury park!!!!!

  • I still have my 8-track player, sitting in the closet. Maybe they'll come back just like this music we are listening to right now.

  • This IS Classic ROck at it's finest! Glad to see it on here!!!

  • You damn right 8-tracks age you!. Me too hahaha...great song in my early teens so you do the math.

  • I love this cut! I have the original album in my collection. Back in the day when I had the Wall of stereo in my apartment I used to crank this up and just groove on it.

  • @ricknorris6943 I still have the original vinyl and a stereo system that can blast it in all its analog glory! Man, that album art!!! You just can appreciate it on a tiny CD cover.

  • @ricknorris6943 I have a bunch of Savoy Brown Albums - not CD's. Savoy Brown was the Greatist

  • these are great old tunes..i never thought i would find this stuff here..glad to see it here

  • I love this song. Awesome !!!

  • I typed this up hoping that there was a song called "hellbound train." It was my lucky day, I guess.

  • kim keeps that british blues vibe alive ! for decades now !

  • Just bought two front row center seats for The Tupelo in Vermont. Gonna be a great night!

  • He makes that Flying V 'sing' damned good for an 'old timer'

  • @sherrillwallace I totally agree- used to listen to their albums over and over again

  • saw them in Sept, if you get a chance, SEE them, outstanding. The audience was great and the music wonderful.

  • To Soop....anything on 8-Track makes you old.

  • Where does this video come from? Is it available?

  • great music from my days. music was music.

  • Saw savoy Brown, Led Zepplin, Jethro Tull and the Litter at a place called The Kinetic Playground On the North side of Chi town in the summer of 1969. Five bucks for admission. Drove my brand new Dodge SuperBee and smoked some good weed.

  • @magnumfour88 It doesn't get much better than that.

  • @magnumfour88 - Life just couldn't have been better.

  • @magnumfour88 the litter?

  • Saw them back in '74 in El Paso along with Blue Oyster Cult & Deep Purple as the headliner! In my opinion...Savoy Brown blew them both away!!!!

  • 8-Track, I even had a recorder.............! Kchunk! I used to have this album. The cover reminded me of days that would now scare the hell out of me.

The mind! Not a good place to get lost in.

  • i will NEVER forget the 1st time i heard this on LP some 40yrs ago!

  • this is far out !

  • awesome

  • My favorite SB lineup would be the one with Chris Youldon (vocals) between "Getting To The Point" and "Raw Sienna""...though "Hellbound Train" is my fave from the early 70's lineup w/Paul Raymond & Dave Walker. This is a cool version, but my favorite other than the original can be found on the 1981 double live LP titled "Greatest Hits - Live in Concert" (very misleading title). John Humphrey's bass playing was phenomenal, and Jimmy Kunes vocals were superb on that rendition!

    Thnx for the upload!

  • I have a vague memory of seeing these guys once, but I don't know for sure. I drank a lot of beer.

  • @tbox203 Hell... I'd drink my own piss to go back and see this band again Scottsdale Az Big Surf with Deep Purple.1974.

  • GOD I LOVED THIS BLUESY OL BAND.VERY UNDERATED ANS UNDER APPRECIATED.

  • Saw them twice in early 70,s [ Street Corner Talking release] @ Painters Mill Music Fair , Owings Mills, Md. Then they packed a 6,000 venue, I saw them in 1988 at a smal club [The Pit ] Westminster ,Md least than 100 , I believe Kim,s on a resurrection , LESS IS MORE ! Quality Sound !

  • Heh, heh. Take that, whippersnappers!

  • F***, who the hell isn't on board? :o)

  • What a treat this is thank you and that 8 track thing I still have a whole box full of them can't get myself to throw them out Hey anybody got an 8 track player for sale?Peace

  • Saw them back in the early 70's , in NYC on Hallowe'en and cannot remember what the venue was..anyone here by any chance know ???

  • i have it on vinyl

  • WOW AWSOME, 1st time i've ever seen anything of them live. but i am new to Savoy Brown, do anybody know what year this was? and who the Vocalist and the guitarist with the stratocaster are?

  • Comment removed

  • @bryan2071 Kim Simmonds is singing and Chris Youlden is playin' the Strat -

  • @puhigirl78 Thank u, very appreicated

  • I saw them at the Fillmore East in early '71 and I saw them again on Saturday at the Throckmorton Theater in Mill Valley. It's a different band every time, but always KILLER!!! See these guys! Your ears and soul will thank you. And Kim is a very nice guy.

  • Seen them at Clay's Park in Ohio. Good to see them out there playing still.

  • My old bandmate Nat Peterson (Bass) played with Kim for about 8yrs. He says Kim is a little hard to work for but when they were playing it all was put to the side and he injoyed it so much that it made up for the times they were travling together. I saw them at Skippers Smoke House in Tampa and Kim did`nt allow a quest list for his sidemen so I had to pay to see my friend play. My old Drummer wilson Owens went on to play with Mitch Ryder, Mitch was really good about comping Wilson`s friends.

  • Obviously one of the greatest white-boy blues bands ever built!

  • My fave SB tune and I really like a lot of their stuff. Thanks for posting.

  • Saw KISS open for Savoy Brown and Manfred Mann in Portland, Or in 1974.....KISS were still wearing jeans and platforms from Dexter Shoes!....a classic!

  • I love Kim for his playing, but his ego needs checking on the vocal channel. I mean, jesus, he couldn't hire Chris Youlden again, or Curtis Salgado, or even Country Joe? C'mon, you owe it to us thirty year fans.

  • Thanks for posting this! I saw SB in Seattle at the Ballard Firehouse around 95 or 96 (can't remember exactly bcz my brain is fried) Hee... Kim was there and I took some good pics of him going up the stage, he shook my hand.... He was a real rocker type doing all the moves and damn he played so good!!!! After the show I was immediately hooked on SB and collected all their good albums!!! LONG LIVE SAVOY BROWN!! KIM SIMMONDS KICKS ROYAL ASS!!!!

  • Brings back lots of memories back in the old ATL!!

  • One of my favorite songs back in the early 70's. This live version is e-x-p-l-o-s-i-v-e to say the least. Kim Simmonds is still one of the best blues players around today.

  • I love this too! They used to play in Atlanta a lot back in the early 70's!!

  • vl...Did some traveling to see a lot of Rock bands back in the 70's but never had the chance to see Savoy Brown. That was a great decade to travel and see many legendary Rock bands play some very original music.

  • I hope that having "Hellbound Train" on eight track doesn't make me old, otherwise I am in big trouble!

  • lol

  • dave if that makes you old then we are both in trouble. I remember the old eight track system like it was yesterday.

  • @soopahdave

Guess that makes us both old .... good ole 8 tracks

  • @Mummbles56T 8 Tracks! Don't you just LOVE the way they would cut off a song, and about 30 seconds later the rest of the song comes up on the next track?

LOL, the only thing worse, was that we put up with it!!! Them was the days!!! I'd still like to go back & re-live 'em!

  • @soopahdave LOL, yeah, we are Old Brother, Savoy Brown in Stockton N.J. next week

  • @soopahdave Same here! Been 'round loonnngggg time. Saw them while back in Alanta and they wouldn't do some of their early stuff especially Needle and the Spoon cause he don't do the "stuff" anymore but still awsome as ever!

  • @soopahdave - yeah, they sound great, but what's an eight track?

  • @soopahdave Yep, U ode like me! Rock on Bro!

  • No, having something on eight-track doesn't make you old. Being old makes you old. However, if you bought something on eight-track when it was new you probably are old. LOL!

  • @soopahdave Makes you old if you are the original owner of that eight track. If you inherited, well, then you are just one lucky sob.

  • @soopahdave ...only if you've found yourself playing it too loudly, then you're old.

  • @soopahdave

Dude, that doesn't make you "old" but it sure dates you! However, not to worry; you have plenty of company!

  • These guys were ahead of their time back in the day.

  • @sherrillwallace better than being behind the times in the future I suppose

  • @Icepaxx Interesting oberservation...... certinally something to ponder. Thanks. Sherrill

  • Baad...

  • still have the alblum...awesome song

  • i kind of remember the mid 70s partying to this i think ohh well if i lite up another number maybe i it will come to me cough cough.

  • Man, they are so fucking great!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Don't make em like this anymore

    Rock on Savoy

  • a fucking kick ass band

    hats off to savoy

  • Very occasionally , a video like this maked it on here without corporate shills getting their fingerson it and squeezing every last cent out of the consumer,, 2 tumbs up,, great classic British Blues from a band that blew me away when I first started listening to FM radio,, altho the ending to the album cut was best,, made me think the power was cut out lol

  • I can't wait to take my son to a Savoy Brown concert. He'll be 15 in Jan 10, and just now has Black Sabbath Paranoid on his music thangamabob. Kinda looks like a flash drive.

Whatever the tech Savoy Brown Jams!!!

  • Gonna seem them tonight with my dad. :D

  • Is this Dave Walker singing? I just listened to him singing with Black Sabbath and this doesn't sound like the same guy. (This singer sounds more relaxed and comfortable with the song.) I haven't listened to Savoy Brown before today, so I admit to knowing nothing about them. As far as first impressions go, I like it. Good groove, nice drumming and tasty guitar solos. I'll listen to some more of their stuff cuz this song is really good.

  • Better than when they formed Fog Hat.

Saw em many times in SF in the 60's &0's.

  • Hellbound Train --- next stop = My House

    Savoy Brown 4EVER !!!

  • Love this song.....I heard them play this in Germany in the 70s...great tune...

  • Kim set that Flying V on FIRE

  • I love Savoy Brown!! have all their albums on vinyl, well the most part anyway.I would like to see more vintage footage of them if anyone has any please post them!! thank you

  • Excellent tune!!!!

  • How old are you________3. These guys are still touring and have been around longer than most bands from that era. They come to SC quite a bit. Kim Simmons puts on a great show. Your're so far behind the music scene maybe you just got of f your death bed.

  • what is the guitarists name who was soloing first, not the one singing (pretty sure the one singing is kim simmonds)

  • This is tremendous

  • Savoy Brown has allways been the best at what they do.

  • When you're married to H, you're married for life. Nonetheless Kim Simmons and Savoy ruled.

  • Dave Bidwell was the drummer on the original version & in Chicken Shack. And I disagree: This does NOT suck

  • That's some serious jammin there!

  • Saw Savoy Brown at Denver's Rainbow Music Hall in June '81. They recorded some of it for a live album. Best $2 -- yes, two dollars -- I ever spent on a concert ticket. Rainbow was an excellent place to see concerts (somewhat small, outstanding acoustics). Kim Simmonds absolutely blew the crowd away; I don't know that most of them knew how well Savoy Brown meshed live or what they were capable of. Man, I miss bands like this...

  • My brother and best friend were at that concert and I have the album.

  • Nice live shots and sound.

    Wow...great jam!!

  • great clip!!!

  • Savoy Brown! Great song; great band. Didn't get recognition due them. Remember "Outside Looking In"? One of many great songs they had.

  • Awesome

  • this makes my day

  • I have an autographed copy of the original lp, I got to meet Kim Simmons

  • hellyeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!rock on!!!!!!!!!!

  • great song but I prefer the recorded version. And where's the electric piano that made the record so great?

  • Very high quality recording--Thanks! I never had a chance to see them in concert, but I own the vinyl of this. The cover art is wild.

  • I saw them in Michigan when I was a pup. I was forever a fan ..old guy

  • in that time SB was a 2nd level band but now after hearing their material i can say the´re great musicians and a fantastic band.

  • Thanks for posting this great music track, Davebritbrat.

  • I saw Savoy Brown many times in the early 1970's. Most of those shows were at the famous Fillmore East in NYC. Kim Simmonds is way overlooked when it comes to classic rock guitarists.

    5 *****

    Paul

  • My OLD boyfriend is teaching me about this band - very interesting....

  • Ludes anyone???

  • I've got at least two dozen SB and solo Kim Simmonds albums. Saw Mr. Kim and the band three years ago at Fargo Blues Festival. Clapton...Page...Beck...and Mr. Kim Simmonds. Tell me I'm wrong.

  • love that flying v oh yeah

  • Imagine 1970-71 late at night....thinking about your woman...hearing this great song...some how you gotta get to bed...hope to see her tomorrow...somehow' with hearng that wah wah pedal in your mind!

  • I NEED TO GET more savoy brown TABS if anyone can HEL ME PLEASE¿¿¿

  • I was turned on to SB by my Mom in 1969, at age 10. 4 years ago I saw SB live for the first time in a small tavern in Annapolis,MD. Since then Ive seen them at the blues fest in Hagerstown,MD. and again at the Rams Head tavern in Annapolis,MD. Kim Simmonds is an incredible guitar player, and a very friendly guy. After his shows he gives autographs, photos, and takes time to talk to fans.

  • Great song-I like the album version when the music just cuts off. Thanks
