Libertarian ideology (tea party ideology, btw) is rebooting the Republican party. @unitedpopper Bush's foreign policy wasn't the issue it was his domestic. He was the first to approve a bailout and did nothing to shrink American government but instead expanded it just like the Democrats. Republicans are supposed to believe in a free REPUBLIC which requires limited government.

Up to something? Napoleon was broke. The colony was FAR out of reach of his empire. Much like Alaska in the case of Russia; even if they did have some idea of the natural resources there, it was a "bargain price" like the Louisiana Purchase because the sellers WANTED to sell it.
Also, Russia is the world's major supplier of illegal weapons, their economy is structured as a war state, and has been at least since the Russian Revolution, or the last century of world politics.
