Oh they are so healthy and adorable. Very impressive. You must be a very good parent. How much fun is life with bears. So different from all other creatures. So incredibly intellegent this little guys are.
That is so funny! I've had 2 raccoons, that I rescued after their mothers died. But I didn't have them at the same time. Just having 1 to take care of and clean up after was a lot - I can't imagine having THREE! You are brave! LOL!
loved watching your video, I have a coon she is almost 3 now found her when she was about 4 or 5 weeks. she has the run of the house and her own bathroom. we also closed in the front porch with no clime wire so she can go out and get freash air when she wants. would not trade her for anything but you are right they are not for everyone. and you can't trust anyone else to watch them.
I don't reccommend them as pets especially with young children in the house. They are not like a cat or dog in that you can't just pick them up or play rough with them. I always tell them what I am going to do like run the sweeper which they hate, and if you drop something, its theirs until they decide to relinquish it for something else.

That is just crazy how you going to take them in your house I mean I know there cute and all but they could hurt you I be seeing 1 at the back of my house looking at me and I'm just looking at it back with out even moving lol it was looking 4 food in my trash
@MsChiquitamami These were bought from a breeder or rescued when they were tiny babies. They have never been outside and are not wild. Please don't misunderstand that you can just wAlk up to any raccoon and they will be friendly. Even house raised coons can be unpredictable at times.
Do you still have raccoons now? Would love to "chat" with you about their habits!! I, too, am a raccoon mother and would love to discuss them with someone!
If these cuties e were my pets, I wouldn't want a fancy bathroom for them to mess it all up anyway. lol What kind of raccoons are these? Actually, where are you from? I've never seen this lighter color in the raccoons that we have here in the northeastern part of the United States.
@TracyLynn077 The blonds were purchased from a breeder. I still have them all but one, Lost him to kidney failure at the age of 5. The ones in this video are now 9-1/2 yrs old, spoiled, and loving coonies. All of my coons are spoiled and loving. I need to get more videos. Hard to take them interacting with me. I have short clips, but slow dial up. ;o(
@rikkimosescoon thanks for replying so soon! So they are not wild then? I never knew they even existed. I'll have to Google 7 learn more about them. I'm very sorry you lost one of your raccoons. Pets are just like family & we mourn their loss just the same when we lose one of them.
I'm also sorry that you still have dial-suck! LOL I only recently got high speed internet myself & so I clearly remember just how SLOW it was & it's very fresh in my mind so I feel for you.I honestly do!
@TracyLynn077 My first coonie , Rikki Moses, was a born wild -rescued orphan. He was orphaned at about 2 weeks old. I lost him 1 month before he turned 10 years old. Because of his web site and his almost human actions, he was known worldwide. I miss him so much even though I have the others just as sweet.
@TracyLynn077 - I live in central New Hampshire and just recently saw a family of raccoons with the light coloring like these guys in the vid. It's the first time in my life that I had seen any with this light coloring. Also, I'm not sure if this is really the case, but they seemed A LOT bigger than the more common type. They were on our deck, so I got a good look at them. Raccoons are adorable. (except for when I catch them chewing our screens & patio furniture) :)
@Blackhawkflygirl I'm also from NH! :o) Only I'm in the north. We got some HUGE fat coons up here that are as big as the ones in this video but never seen any blonde ones. I've been done some Googling...and I guess there are a few out there. They're just not as common..obviously. Too bad you didn't get some video of them like the squirrel and the juvenile bear. :o) If you feed them, they'll return and you'll be sure to get some great video then! Just be sure to put patio furniture away! lol
I feed the raccoons. They live next to my house in the wetland. They are very cute animals and not aggressive like some people said. They don't attack the stray cats I feed either.
Could you tell me what one would have to do in order to get a license to own raccoons? And any sites you know of that offer advice for caring for them? Thanks!
You need to check with your fish and wildlife (DNR) for your state. Some states are illegal to own a raccoon. There are breeders out there if your state will give you a permit. i know you do. raccoons ar worthless property destroyers. i live on the farm and thay destroy my old farm house walls . easy come easy kaboom ther faces ...
They don't eat much and don't get sweets etc,but they are still huge. My biggest is probably close to 60 lbs.He is now 8 yrs old and a real sweetheart.
Do you have a blond? My last one was supposed to be a red,but he is blond also. All of mine are sweet and loving and love to be handled, back scratches etc.
No its not mold. Its chipped off paint and I finally got the whole room repainted. Claws n paws do a real number on walls and woodwork, and carpet and tile and...that is expected when you have coons in the house.
The blonds are domestically bred. The dark ones are orphaned wild born. They can become nasty any time, but spay/neuter helps a lot if they are to be kept. Even then sometimes they can be testy. If unaltered and left alone at that time, they will usually return to their normal behavior from what some have told me. But that isn't always the case.
Im guessing these were domestically bred? They look like chocolate and silver mutations of the wild type, am i correct? Is it true they can become nasty once sexually mature?
As I said in a previous reply, why do cameras always make things look different. I know it looks horrible in this video. I've had the room painted and some remodling done since this was taken. It actually wasn't near as horrible as it looks. It didn't look this bad in the original video.EEEEEE ;o)
You can buy them from breeders, but you would have to check with your state fish and game (DNR) before buying one. They are illegal in many states and some counties within a state.
You would be looking at aproximately 10 yrs of no knick-knacks, plants, breakables or vacations. They are not an animal that would be safe around children, especially small children.
Check out fun on the couch and the following clip, peek-a-boo-patty-cake.Rikki Moses loved to play and those 2 clips show a lot of his personality. All of mine love to play.
Give you one what? A coon or a bath! ;o) I don't reccommend them for pets. It takes a lot of patience and its a 24/7 job lasting at least 10 years with no vacations. They are a combination of: a 2 year old, a teenage rebel, a monkey and a grizzly bear.
;o) Thanks. Since this video was made, the bathroom has been remodeled and painted. I don't know why cameras (mine anyway) always make things look different colors than they really are. Like why does a white tub look yellow or tan, or why does a creme wall look green, grey, or orange??
raccons are cool when they don't eat your cats....cuz they cant get anything else.....I would totaly want a nice one as a pet but when they are mean watch out dude
Depends on the breeder. $50 to $600. I really don't recomend them as pets as they require 24/7 care and supervision. They are the perpetual 2 year old, curious and inquisitive and have to find out what is in every box, drawer and behind that closed door, which I might add they can open. You cannot discipline them like a dog or car. Quiet soft voice gets better results no matter what the situation. Any discipline is taken as aggressiveness and they will retaliate.
It takes a lot of patience and you forget all the fancy decorations setting around. No vacations or week end jonts for a period of approximately 10 years. Getting a pet sitter is next to impossible as they don't take well to someone else caring for them although personally , I much prefer them over a dog or cat. They are like a combo of a monkey,(antics), a bear(can be as aggressive), and a 2 year old, (getting into stuff).;o)
Ew, that bathtub is filthy! But that's cute. Aaww.

I love them. If I run into some that need a home when I run my animal sanctuary (my dream), I'd be very happy.

i'v been seeing this more and more.. even in the wild...
why are raccoons so fat?
Boosephus 3 years ago
In a domesticated envirenment, its called 'spoiled'. In the wild, I would imagine it depends on the population and the food avalibility.

do you have to have a license to get a raccoon
Kirbylinkmix 4 years ago
It depends on the state you live in. Some states they are not permited.
rikkimosescoon 4 years ago
Sooo is California a state they do not permit 'em in?
Kirbylinkmix 4 years ago
I'm not sure. You would have to contact fish and game and ask before getting one. You can buy them from breeders if they are allowed in your state.

hmmm so how much is one (sorry for all teh questions)
Kirbylinkmix 4 years ago
Depends on the breeder. $50 to $600. I really don't recomend them as pets as they require 24/7 care and supervision. They are the perpetual 2 year old, curious and inquisitive and have to find out what is in every box, drawer and behind that closed door, which I might add they can open. You cannot discipline them like a dog or car. Quiet soft voice gets better results no matter what the situation. Any discipline is taken as aggressiveness and they will retaliate.

Oh...well thats good to know, thanks!

Yes, California won't even let you have a ferret. Any mammal that is a carnivore other than a dog or cat is pretty hard to get a license for.
Also any native animal you will need a license to own, making the process even worse.
