one of the greatest gospel groups in americian history..I thank the Lord that I grew up only a couple of doors down from the Johnstons..What people dont realize is that they were awesome singers as well as men..they provided the best they could for thier families and raisied the most beautiful kids in the world..
That's Ellis Johnson singing the lead. His father Thomas on standing next to him. In the back is Gospel Joe Williams and Lonnie Smith, father of the jazz great. They have all gone on to glory. I know my information is correct because Ellis was my dad. Thank you sharing them with the world.
@bobbydee317 That is Jimmy Jones. He later went solo and record some great albums on Savoy Records. I have them at my mom's house. One day I will post some of his recordings.
Is Ellis still alive? I use to think he was deeper than Jimmy Jones. Maybe not quite as melodic or sweet as we use to say., but very effective. He would drop the house in Boston when he hit the bottom. I believe he blew one of the pa speakers, he went so low!
I know that's right,Yawotton, and they're my all-time favorite singing group also. I love to hear Ellis Johnson sing this song and the name of this tv show is TV Gospel Time,in which many black gospel artists appeared back in the 1960s.

I really miss them all. I saw them all in person in the late 70's/early 80s. I heard them do "Only Believe." I was not even a teenager yet.
