@Kefka44 I'm pretty sure that what metaXzero meant by "before Luigi came into the picture" is that Mario saved Daisy before Daisy had even met Luigi, not that Mario saved Daisy before Luigi was in a game. Keep in mind that Luigi was NOT in Super Mario Land.
It's really, really difficult to play a puzzle game like Gameboy Donkey Kong on the PC with keyboards, especially when you reach the jungle, desert, aircraft, arctic, canyon and Donkey Kong's tower levels.
This is from the old Donkey Kong game made for the original Game Boy back in the 90s. It was the first title to be compatible with the Super Game Boy adapter.

Pauline was just his first girl who he eventually split with.
Daisy could technically be an old flame like Pauline before getting with Luigi. He did save her before Luigi came into the picture.
