It states in the package that the core needs to be replaced or is good for x amount of uses. I have never replaced mine though. Had them about two years or so, having some timing issues now so we stick to striker pyrotechnics.
@KASPLARFO yea its pretty fun to use. just do NOT loose the end caps, those hold in the pressure from the CO2 and allow for the nice bang; without them it'll just make a small hole in the shell.

@Pyrofreak72 The core where the CO2 cartridge is put inside, I dont think so, but the shells you replace after each use.
