I remember when I was learning how to wheelie I was so scared when I didn't realize how low the front wheel was from the ground until I saw the video of myself taken by my buddy. Only then I had the confident be up higher..., never the less, I still get scared because of cops!
Hey Bro..I gotta 03 ZZR1200C2 Tryin hard as hell to clutch up, cant do it. 1st or 2nd i feel the bike jump a little but wheel barley cresting..im new to wheeliies. Heeeeelp! Pleeeez. I can barely wheelie by rollin then closin throttle and crackin it open. Any extra tips this bike is heavy and scared ima drop it
i don't even use the clutch when i pop mine up... i just get rpm's high, let off throttle, then hit it right away and momentum shift gets you up. rpms have to be where power bands are though.. (i think the clutch popping ain't good for engine) but whatever, there are different styles for everybody
The guys teaching you how to wheelie are gonna get you hurt! The dude who tried to show u how its done is a beginner, or appears to be. He barely got it up. (pun intended) He is only a little less horse shit then the student! That six can wheelie like nobodys business, with the high rev limits, once u get it up, and balanced u won't have to shift outta second. Ride and practice on Ur own, know Ur limits, and don't be afraid to test them. Cause if u ain't on the edge, ur taking up 2 much space!
the problem is sounds like is he is slowly letting off the clutch because you can hear the rpms are in the right spot i used to let of the clutch befor i got my balls now i just pull it in a half inch and pop it and up i go
i think for the people watching this to learn... sit a little further back on the seat, even when you pop the clutch try pushing down a pinch let the suspension help lift it up... im starting to learn more complex stuff but this vid would have helped a long time ago for me, nic e vid
It's cool that you're helping him and while you're at it you might advise him that the Mohawk things are for squids and squids only, will help him later in life! ;)
@downshift83 hey downshift i live in tacoma too and id love to meet up i run a k8 gsx-r 600 white. btw what song is this? i would love to hear a reply but no one has. is it an actual song? or did you make it?
@spmbass For the love of GOD, please stop giving Jersey a bad name. It's bad enough we have those New York douchebags on the Jersey Shore, we don't need everyone thinking people here are actually like that.
I will admit I kinda have a hatred of some riders on the street f'ing off but hell you doing it there not hurting anyone and the cops have to roll... fuck them..
Hey downshift. I check for new videos from u at least once a week. Lol. Great job! I have a question also. I have a 2006 gsxr 750 all stock exept for a paint job and 2 bros slip on. But I have been clutching up my wheelies with my stock gearing. I want to bring it up easier cause I'm tired of bringing the rpms up so high to get it up. Will a -1 and +2 sprocket kit make that much of a difference? Thx in advance.
i ride a ktm 200 (dirt bike) i just flipped it a couple days ago trying to shift during a wheelie.. can you go over how to do it right //step by step.... im asking you because there is No go dirt biking wheelie videos that talk about shiftig
@thumper2783 dont be dumping your clutch out just hit 8 grand in 1st let off and punch it again real quick and it will prelode the front up as quick or slow as you want it to as high as you want then hit your balence point and let of slow and click second with out the clutch befor the front drops and keep walking that bitch through the gears without droping the front its easy he makes it look hard i could wheelie beter then this at 16
why does it seem to be so hard for some people to learn how to do a wheelie? I pulled it off intuitively after a couple of times with my 4-stroke 125cc... Besides, wheelies are illegal and really not as cool as you think.
Sooo much easier if you push your butt all the way back in the seat.
I noticed you said the ZX6R can't power wheelie?? I have a vid of a power wheelie on my 08 600RR, which is only a little lighter than the ZX...get up to 35-40mph close the throttle and open it back up. The CBR flies right up when you do that, can't you do it on the ZX??
hi 83 . you taught me alot on the wheelie tips . i want to now how to do stoppies could you tell me some tips please you are good at teaching things and understanding you is easy can you have a look at mt attempts and tell me what you think thanks r1gostrider
i have the same bike with the same sprocket upgrade. there is no need to clutch it in either first and second you can just snap it around 9000. Still trying to do those standups you got down. im missing one thing. the balls. lol thx for the cool vids

let off the throttle just enough to let the front end come back down(if it doesnt-apply a little pressure to the rear brake) and then get back on the throttle for a smooth landing
Downshift - I've been meaning to drop you a line for months and say thanks for the tutorial videos on Wheeling. You got it down to a science my brother. I want you to know, you were the clearest and most concise video on this manuever ANYWHERE. You got me to get my front wheel up finally. 2nd gear included. Thank you for taking the time to post such a video. You got everyone else beat brother!!!!! Great looking channel you got. I and a ton of other riders owe you.
He can't lift up the front and he rides to zx10? This will not end well. You really don't need to clutch up any bike unless you're going for very slow, high, wheelies (600s can power up the front just as easy as a 1000 with the correct body positioning and technique). Clutching it up as a greenhorn is a technique that's fairly easy to get in over your head, once you know enough to be dangerous.--- That said I enjoy your videos downshift83. Keep us fed.
2:23 almost look like me. I went to far back and jumped off the bike at like 47 mphs. lmao. I'm all scared up. can't wait to get my bike back fixed and do it somemore
I think it's a requirement that people who suck must rock the mohawk and/or other goofy "radical" items (no offense downshift83). It's a stereotype I've found with only few exceptions.
I found it a lot easier when you get up. and are trying to keep it up. take your gloves off you need a great feel for your throttle. anyone need wheelie tips Message me.
Downshift was basically my teacher too, once you get the balls to actually hit the BP, his videos helped alot. Its different for every bike, but the major parts are all the same....great learning video....How come he's not on his own bike though?
DS is correct when he says to slow down, it's much easier at a lower speed. In first gear roll on like you would from a stop then slip it about 15 to 20 MPH. DS vids was my teacher. Thanks DS!!!!
Awesome vid... Ive never been one for popping wheelies... always worried I will bin it... and I dont have a particually nice bike either... Still... My baby haha.
Cops spoil everything, it was better doing it there than out on the street! Aweful nice of ya to let him use your bike though, definitely easier to learn to clutch on a 600!
yeah, just sounds a tad like he is 'slow' with the clutch, its gotta be a BLIP, he had plenty revs but needed to lean back and commit to really droping that clutch at lower speed and high revs. I will enjoy this Downshift, we'd be keen to follow his progress. He had one toward the end there (I think when he then stopped) that was close to getting it up nicely. good work kid
Sweet, I need to practice too! I can clutch up on the V-Strom even though its so long and front heavy reliably, but can't balance.
The cops didn't do anything though right? You're not on public streets, you're on private property, and since its a business its not trespassing until someone asks you to leave.
That is one plus for having silent pipes though, doesn't attract attention. He probably heard yall from a mile away.
DS learned it with his stock sprockets. Check out his other videos. If I remembered correctly he also tried doing it with the new sprockets and said it felt way different.
DS - Are u any good at quickly finding & holding the bike at it's balance point? I also haven't noticed if u power it up or clutch it up most of the time - do u have a preference?
Nice vid, but be careful u don't get busted ;-)
Actually, what could a balls-bustin cop do (if he wanted to) if he catches u 'in the act' out there in SD?
every story I've heard is of people that see a cop while they are up on one wheel, then they take off and get away...never heard of any1 gettin' caught yet.
dont you burn you cluches out?

He can't lift up the front and he rides to zx10? This will not end well. You really don't need to clutch up any bike unless you're going for very slow, high, wheelies (600s can power up the front just as easy as a 1000 with the correct body positioning and technique). Clutching it up as a greenhorn is a technique that's fairly easy to get in over your head, once you know enough to be dangerous.--- That said I enjoy your videos downshift83. Keep us fed.
yadeadson 2 years ago
I could power wheelie my 10 just fine before this. Now I can clutch it up, too. Just wanted to practice it on his bike first ;)
nickgnaime 2 years ago
I agree, body positioning is everything for getting wheelies up unless they're slow, 12 o'clock wheelies
jongeddes09 2 years ago
2:23 almost look like me. I went to far back and jumped off the bike at like 47 mphs. lmao. I'm all scared up. can't wait to get my bike back fixed and do it somemore

How can dude rock the Mohawk and suck so bad @ wheelies? It just doesn't make any sense!
TokenTombstone 2 years ago
I think it's a requirement that people who suck must rock the mohawk and/or other goofy "radical" items (no offense downshift83). It's a stereotype I've found with only few exceptions.
yadeadson 2 years ago
I found it a lot easier when you get up. and are trying to keep it up. take your gloves off you need a great feel for your throttle. anyone need wheelie tips Message me.

Great pointers, though.
He eventually got it.
When can you teach me?
lol
Those cops can suck it!
I hate the police.

Downshift was basically my teacher too, once you get the balls to actually hit the BP, his videos helped alot. Its different for every bike, but the major parts are all the same....great learning video....How come he's not on his own bike though?
jmink10 2 years ago
I wanted to learn on a 6, and it helped that he had a cage on it too
nickgnaime 2 years ago
DS is correct when he says to slow down, it's much easier at a lower speed. In first gear roll on like you would from a stop then slip it about 15 to 20 MPH. DS vids was my teacher. Thanks DS!!!!

Awesome job. Must have had faith in zx-10 to not wreck your bike. Love the vids.

making progress nick keep it up. props to DS on his teaching skills too. as for the cops, cops being cops it was just the coppy thing to do...

Awesome vid... Ive never been one for popping wheelies... always worried I will bin it... and I dont have a particually nice bike either... Still... My baby haha.
Skazzious 2 years ago
Cops spoil everything, it was better doing it there than out on the street! Aweful nice of ya to let him use your bike though, definitely easier to learn to clutch on a 600!
lilloo31 2 years ago
when you speak of "power band" i'm assuming that's "max torque" area.....not hp. So, about 8500rpm?
nice video, i like how safe the process is and good area to do it.
viasevenvai 2 years ago
yea right around the 7000-9000rpm range on most stock 600cc bikes

I feel honored to have this lesson as well on the 250.
Hey is the 250 harder to wheelie or easier?
or is it all the same?

yeah, just sounds a tad like he is 'slow' with the clutch, its gotta be a BLIP, he had plenty revs but needed to lean back and commit to really droping that clutch at lower speed and high revs. I will enjoy this Downshift, we'd be keen to follow his progress. He had one toward the end there (I think when he then stopped) that was close to getting it up nicely. good work kid

Nice to see you riding in a pack now. Like always very enjoyable.

DumbDuck44 2 years ago
Sucks about the cops. Nick had it.

DS, i was just wondering, did you learn to wheelie when you had your sprockets -1/+2, or did you learn stock?
which would you recommend? im having the same problems as the guy with the green bike in this vid and figured you'd be the best to ask for advice
DJLimez 2 years ago
DS learned it with his stock sprockets. Check out his other videos. If I remembered correctly he also tried doing it with the new sprockets and said it felt way different.

DS - Are u any good at quickly finding & holding the bike at it's balance point? I also haven't noticed if u power it up or clutch it up most of the time - do u have a preference?
Nice vid, but be careful u don't get busted ;-)
Actually, what could a balls-bustin cop do (if he wanted to) if he catches u 'in the act' out there in SD?
boobtubeviewr 2 years ago
I never power up- it's always a clutch up....so that would be my preferance=)
dont know but i'll let you know when I get busted for doing it(^^,)
downshift83 2 years ago
*haha* :-D
U haven't heard stories tho? Do most guys just get a slap on the wrist or a steep fine or well... u know ;-)
Also do many guys run out in SD? ;-)
boobtubeviewr 2 years ago
every story I've heard is of people that see a cop while they are up on one wheel, then they take off and get away...never heard of any1 gettin' caught yet.
nickgnaime 2 years ago
pretty much what I thought... it's the same everywhere :-D
