  • I got a stock that is supposed to fit all sks rifles and my Chinese one just won't work any suggestions? The trigger group won't fit

  • You make the SKS look badass!

  • Tell me more about this felony cause I see everyone on youtube doing this to there sks so what are u talking about? Enlighten me please

  • @SolarGangYoola You cannot do this in California as it exceeds the maximum ten round magazine capacity limit.

  • @darith27 ok i live in ohio i can do this right?

  • umm you do know everytime you insert a magazine you are "constructing a firearm" and it is in felony configuration of 922 r with BATF last i checked but hey if you know somthing i dont know please enlighten me

  • Thanks for the info. I bought a Norinco SKS today at the Dixie Gun show. It already has a polymer skeleton stock.

  • 922r

  • thats great i was wondering if u can still use stripper clips with the tapco mags thank you!!! can u use the old internal mag with a tapco stalk?

  • ha ha I'm only 9 and i shot a sks man they have kick back

  • @willcium7 I shot a 12 gauge when I was 10, that was fun!

  • do these work with Yugo SKS's (lookin into a one)

  • @Buckshot0008 do you agry its amazing that a 9 year old shot a sks

  • @Buckshot0008 Yes!

  • I want to buy a sks . May i hunt with sks ? or this Rifle is good for hunting or no?

  • @mahmudabdollahi you can hunt with anything :)

  • @mahmudabdollahi you can hunt with a ak47 just gotta have 10 rd or less mag

  • this wont work on a yugo

  • Once I pull the mounted mag out....the slide comes slamming closed and will not say open until i put the tapco mag or the stock mag back in.....I see yours stays open.....am I missing something???

  • @slvr02150 *****Bolt......not slide

  • Thanks no I under stand.

  • I hate living in California!!!! ;v(

  • i was just at my local gun shop and they told me not to mod it out to 20 because the mags always seem to jam. can you give me and info on jamming issues?

  • @StayingPreppedRu That may be more in reference to the ProMags more than the Tapco. The Tapco magazines work great and rarely jam.

  • is the mag single or double stack?

  • Here in Canada, our center fire firearms have to be pinned to only five rounds. I found site out of British Columbia that carries these mags, pinned to five and I'm tempted to get one just to sexy up my SKS

  • @DJdeadlyDALEK I'm in Kelowna BC and i can't find these anywhere, What site were you able to locate the mags?

  • @pibn8tive west rifle dot com

  • @pibn8tive They have this tapco mag and a nice looking thirty round mag

  • @pibn8tive Being a Canadian you can not purchase theses 20 round mags from the U.S. They have laws that do not allow them to ship certain weapons or accesories over the boarder. Canadian regulation also limit your mag to be no more than 5 rounds; however, you can still purchase a 20 round Tapco mag pined at 5 rounds. Therefore you get the great look of the 20 rounder but not the 20 shots. The Canadian store is Fabsports out of Montreal. Retail for 29.95 + shipping

  • Oh man I thought I had to do some cutting and filing to some magazine to fit it to one of those sks rifles, thank god I don't! Thank you for the information

  • Tapco magazine is not good in winter cold weather. If temperature -15 celsus degrees or lower plastic magazine can be broken.

Of course only in Russia we have such problem )))

  • thank you so my step mom got my dad one of these for christmas and i am in charge of changing out the mag.i know a lot a bout guns and knifes.but its always ok to get some help.god bless.

  • how do you make the bolt stay open after you are done with the mag. Most I have seen the bolt always comes foreward.

  • I love mine, my dad traded me it for my M1 carbine. Great trade because you can get a box of 7.62's for 5 dollars for 20, and a box of .30cal 20 count for 40, its such a great price difference.

  • I just Love mine.

  • How does your bolt stay open without the magazine in it? thanks.

  • @MGDanceHouse the rifle has a built in hold open, the magazine follower pushes it into place, but it stays up and holds the bolt back without the need for the magazine. hope that helps

  • Great video. I think ill try and get some. I have one question though if anyone could answer it it would be great. Can you load the mags using a stripper clip while the mag is in the rifles like the origional box mag. Thank you.

  • awesome gun, already bought an AK and looking forward to getting my SKS I hate living in California with the 10 round magazine laws, thank God for 'repair kits' on magazines so i can get 30 rounders and other hi cap mags for my guns :)

  • when this mag was new did you have any feeding proplems?

  • how do i modify it to be able to load em with the bolt close?

  • you have a great radio voice

  • If you modify your wooden stock to fit this mag, can you still put the 10 rd mag back in?

  • @alvinyork1916

    Yes you can.

  • For Californian's like me all you need to do is buy the magazine as a parts kit and modify it like you would a p-mag. Plenty of videos out there on how to do it. But DO NOT buy a whole mag or assemble that parts without making the necessary modifications.

  • great video. have you ever used the 75 rnd drum?

  • can i do this with the standard century model that is sold

  • what the name of that song towards the end of the video?

  • Comment removed

  • These things are great. Still the ONLY detachable sks mag that functions reliably. Wonder why they never made a 30 rounder though.

  • very simple,very straightforward video A+

  • great vid, very informative.

  • thanks so much for the video , i would have never got it on my own .

  • how much does a tapco cost

  • will this fit a Romanian SKS?

  • do they make 10 rounders for us trapped behind enemy lines in cali?

  • do they have 30 rd or 40 rders ? and do you load these mags by hand or must you use the strippers?

  • @GNut1980 i have a 30 round banana style magazine their very hard to use because they came 20- to even 30 years after sks their highly unreliable and mine falls out constantly 30 rounders tend to be cheap and jam the gun frequently trust me just use the 10 rounder

  • Great video just changed mine from a five round fixed box to a 20 round mag, Thanks man.

  • i sent you a vid response with the 40 round Promag and i prefer this over the tacpo 20 rounders. the mag well is smooth and every mag slides in prefectly. this little problems is beating my ass and dont want to have 3 tapco mags i dont use. oh and your video is the reason i bought the mags and my SKS. i love it and would depend on this rifle if my life was on the line......god forbid.

  • I have three 20 round Tapco mags and a 40 round ProMag and 2 of 3 tapco mags do not catch the bolt when the last round ejects. I have a Yugo M59/66 SKS and was un-issued till i used it and i have removed and installed these mags numerous times and slide in like a champ but still they do not catch that bolt. it seems like they are not sitting high enough to be able to catch the bolt but they are fully inserted and locked in. the rounds feed smoothly and i have had no failures. do you have any fix

  • finally! a good video on the subject.

  • Thanks great detail I just got a sks not with wood stock. Sks look good with a clip

  • have you worked out the problem with the stripper clip loading? these things are so damn expensive in canada. I can only afford one, if I buy 4 magazines I could buy another sks. LOL anyways, great vid.

  • if you sand the stock a little bit to fit the mag could you still put the 10 round back in if you wanted?

  • @chickenpotpie2008 just did mine today..and yes you can.

  • thanks for sharing

  • DID U DO A VIDEO OF THE RUGER 10/22 YET?

  • i could not get my trigger group back in thank you for the video or i wouldn't have realized i need the safety up.... also i bought the pro mags 40 rounder i would love to see a review from you

  • this is the most useful video on sks rifles ive seen

  • im not gettn a 20 round, but they look great. im gettn a few 30 and 40 rounders, and maybe a 50 round bannana, eventually ill get a 75 or 100 rd drum. thnx nice gun.

  • helpful video...thanks

  • if you had a "marcus mag adaptor" you could do away with the duckbill, and have a mag like an ak, with the tapco 20 round mag. look it up!

  • Hey Don, I am getting the Yugo version off a buddy of mine in about 3 more weeks or so! ? 4 u then, can I put these into that version of the gun or do I need a synthetic stock for it first. I was just curious so I know which to buy first as I am interested in a folding stock for it! Also can I take off the grenade launcher sights too?

  • Any trials with a Yugo yet?

  • I'm about to buy a M59/66 SKS and I own a Mosin Nagant and is the SKS just as easy to disassemble and operate? do u recommend letting the 20 round mags naturally work themselves in or take some sandpaper to make it slide in easyer.

  • if you have this in your gun, can you still top load it?

  • @danusmcgator yes from what i understand u can :)

  • dude you make that thing look like it has RECOIL ! haha cool vid

  • Hahahaha. Went to the biggest gun show in NY today and saw a ton of these mags and even bough a Russian SKS with a 40 round mag. Seems like nobody cares about the NY AWB.

  • if you file the lips in the rear to match the 10 rd you can feed the stripper clips in easier because the stripper will sit properly aligned in the back of the mag where it's supposed to. from personal experience it takes 1/2 the time to dump 2 strippers as it takes to do a change out. plus it's less cumbersome to carry 10-20 stripper clips than 5-6 detachable mags. when i got mine the spring was really stiff so i left it fully loaded for about a week to break it in.

  • VERY COOL, I liked it... Nice video... THANKS...

  • Hey Sootch,

I'm new to your channel, Found you in TNP. Anyway have you had issues with the magazines from tapco having alot of excess plastic on the spine? I bought three and had to dremmel them so they would work.

  • I live in New York and let me tell you it is some serious bullshit here with the gun laws.

  • Nice vid and the tapco 20 rd is awesome. But its not a good idea to use the magazine as a grip "to pull around on".

  • do you knowif these work with the yugoslovian models?you only mentioned the chinese and russian ones working alright with them...

  • @mrantihippie they all havetobe modified in some way. ok here in calif we got to put a bolt thru it to make it un-detachable. so you got to file here and there to make it fit then you got to load it with 10 rnd stripper clips. ok.

  • That's the same Norinco SKS I have and I love it. I have switched out my stock, put a scope on so I can use it or the stock sights. I put a rubber bumper inside the receiver cover too. These 20 round Tapco's are the best so far but some need their spring taken out and stretched to prevent a loose loaded clip. You can whack the clip a couple times with something to tighten the shells too. I love my sks. I saw a lot of good deals SKS at gunsamerica. Also good cheap ammo at cheaperthandirt.

  • Thanks alot about the sks mag my stepdad is giving me one I might be only twelve but i love to shoot and thanks for the help lol

  • so i just bought the yugoslavian sks 59/66 i also want to get a 20 or 30 round clip for mine does tapco have a website if so let me know i love the synthetic pistol grip stocks ive seen on here to hope to here from ya

  • @SrR0673 google search

  • Ok so if I have a Russian SKS original all matching numbers, and I put this into my gun then its illegal until I mod a bunch more parts??? Someone please let me know I live in rural upstate NY and just got the gun yesterday.

  • Hey Sooch , I have a Norinco SKS . Would it be possible to fit a Tapco by grinding or filing the Mag instead of my stock ? Just wondering in case I decide to go back to origional . Also I watched another video where a guy cuts off the duckbill part on a bandsaw . Have you ever tried something like that ? I assume the advantage would be faster mag changes . I have had my SKS since the early 90's when they were $100

  • Yes I'm wondering if or when you are going to show how to install the Tapco stock. The reason is that I do not see no one installing one with the bayonet slot or in fact installing one at all. They say that they are kinda of hard to install. But I do plan on getting one in the dark earth style. And was wondering if you can show it being installed. Thanks, and really like you reviews.

  • Beware if you are in California. 10 rnds only. The goons here will look for any reason to take your gun,

  • Bluez bro what kind? Russian? Yugo? There should be a push pin to remove it, its hard to hammer out depending on how old the gun is and if u have cosmo grease buildup in it

  • does anyone know how i might go about removing my bayonet from my sks? it makes the weapon so front heavy and doesn't allow me to add a much needed bi-pod.

  • It sucks now if u live in California u can't buy ammo off of online websites so now u got to go to big 5 or wal mart to buy ammo fuck

  • @dogdixon Right now it is going to be challenge in court. I am a member of the California Riffle and Pistol Asscation that is how I know.

  • @dogdixon thats only with handgun ammo that new law doesnt affect rifle ammo.

  • My sks is Russian made, I lived in Arizona,USA. Is that legal to have 20 rounds magazine??

  • Have you ever expirience any hang ups to feed if so whats the correction for that issue.im really wanting an sks i like the history and your not limited with what you can do with this rifle pretty sweet.

  • So can the detachable tapco magazines be loaded through the top while attached like the standard attached 5 round sks magazine or do they have to be detached, loaded, then reinserted?

  • how do you get the bolt to lock in the back position? mines broke

  • Great video, thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I live in the People's Republic of Kalifornia and can't legally do this mod.

  • Thanks alot. I watch this as I changed mine out and it was alot of help. now onto your t6 install lol.

  • thank you sir for the vid :) (thumbs up)

  • Excellent video! Among the best how-to's involving the SKS I've ever seen. Just got me an SKS Tapco mag this past weekend but haven't tried it out yet. I see you're also sporting a spiffy commando sweater. I got the same one but it's black. To those in CA: You can purchase these mags but they come disassembled and are marketed as "kits." Once you assemble the "kit" you are technically breaking the law... but, I won't tell on you if you don't tell on me - ha

  • @whtswrngwthupeople WHAT!!! The 3rd amendment does NOT say that we aren't to have a standing army during peacetime. You have either never read the bill if rights, listened to a methhead or smoke too much pot. Or are simply greatly misinterpreting what " the quartering of troops is" my god guy! Who told you this?

  • Can u still use strippers with the 20rd removeable mag?

  • hahah ur cool im in california..is it possible to get one in stores?? cause if so i can drive to arizona or nevada and buy one shit i have a 25rder for my M&P15-22

  • Hey whtswrngwthupeople you dumb ass, The 3rd amendment states; It is prohibited in peace time the quartering of soldiers in private homes without owners consent. It is only legally permissable in wartime only !

  • i hate the little lip on the mag, it probably makes it pretty awkward to use in a magazine pouch.

  • you are a sexy man.

  • Very good video. I alway's wondered how to install a 20 round mag.on a SKS. This video really simplified it for me, thanks again.

  • was this a SKS D to begin with? or was this a fixed box mag that if you remove it you can use the tapco mags without any modifications?

  • @fatchicksonly This Russian SKS was a pre 90's gun but all gun's imported since 1990 need to be 922r compliant. See my 922r compliant video. Thanks~

  • @sootch00 that law doesnt apply to me, I'm canadian and we dont have any kind of restriction like that. I just wanted to know if i could remove my fixed mag from my sks and then if the tapco mags will work as a detachable mag without any mods

  • im in New Jersey so i will have to stick with the 10 round stripper clip...

at least i have my glock for back up...lol

  • @fatchicksonly thats a real russian sks the sks-d uses ak mags

  • @fatchicksonly you can never use an aftermarket clip without some modiacation ok. try it. elieve me.

  • i really hate to ask an off topic question. but what brand are your shades?

  • Is it possible to feed 20 rounds into this magazine via stripper clips or is the spring too strong?

  • Your states that are free and brave comment at the end made my day lol.

  • when you removed magazine, when is bolt forward, it's possible way to damage magazine ?

  • Tapco manufactures the best sks mags on the market and they need to make 40rd mags !!!!

  • my sks looks exactly like this 1 lol

  • do they make 10 round removable mags?

  • @soixe1997 Yes

  • 922r is a joke. My SKS is one illegal mutt of a rifle, but it doesnt matter. Why abide by a law like that, set from a government that couldnt give a damn about you and would rather take the gun itself.

  • @foughtwolf I know. 922r is such bullshit.

  • @foughtwolf so many gun control laws are silencer nfa registration sbs ans sbr the machine gun bann so silly which do nothing to reduce crime

  • great video, great info, thanks for the upload.

  • i heard here in texas they passed the hb1815 witch states we can have a loaded conseled wepon in are car as long as it is out of site is that true

  • hey now thats not nice sootch.. we in california are brave too! just not our law makers lol.

  • i hate california they ruin everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the vid. Just upgraded my sks with this magazine and will soon change the stock once I get that bayonet off.

  • i want to modernize my sks with a mag and a new stock. how would i do that legally or is it illegal to do?

  • will it work on the yugo

  • @bigusmcWW2 I should work on the Yugo. You'll need to make it 922r compliant.

  • @sootch00 how do you do that?

  • @sootch00 how do you do that

  • would this work on the yugo?

  • That rifle isn't 922r compliant. Also,I have a yugo which i have modified the shit out of. Now that its all done I feel like I should have just left it stock.

  • @MuscIeBound This SKS was imported years before the ban so it's not under 922r restrictions and can be modified, but good to note. Thanks~

  • @sootch00 Yeah but you "built" it into an illegal configuration after the law was put into place. In its current state it wouldn't be eligible for importation. So the parts count still matters. At least that's how I interpreted the law.

  • @MuscIeBound The law allows for guns to be imported under the 922r restrictions. Guns already in the country are not under the importation restrictions because they were grandfathered in.

  • @MuscIeBound The law allows for guns to be imported under the 922r restrictions. Guns already in the country are not under the importation restrictions because they were grandfathered in.

  • @sootch00 a law that makes absolutely no sense, and is very hard to understand, we sure the hell do not live in a free country if we are prohibited from modifying a legal firearm just because its made in a foreign country.

  • @FlamingLavaOwl I'm getting ready to do a 922r compliance video series for the SKS and AK-47 using Tapco stock and parts sets. You're right. This is ridiculous but needs to be clarified. Many thanks~

  • @FlamingLavaOwl right on, the 2nd amendment clearly says the right shall not be infringed, meaning the people can own any military weapon, no restrctions, it also says the people have the right to organize militas. The 3rd amendment says the Govt is not allowed to have a standing army in peacetime, this is why the US govt always makes sure we have a good war going, WW1, WW2, cw, vvietam, war on drugs, etc. The US govt is clearly way out of line and this is now a facist/ communist country.

  • hey i heard here in texas they passed the hb1815 witch states we can have a loaded conseled wepon in are car as long as it is out og site is that true i already know we can have loaded rifles and shotguns as long as there out of reach

  • i cant wait too get my SKS back from the police or park ranger or whatever and pat my fine cuzz i just ordered this magazine!

  • No!!!! Leave her stock!

  • someone email me price for 20rd or 30rd mag??

  • Are the tapco mags good some say that thay do not feed right some times.

  • if i put a mag into my sks that was higher then 10 rounds like your tapco would it still be 922r compliant? i have a chinese type 56 sks that has all of its original parts.

  • Excellent video! I have a Russian with laminate stock, bought in the early '90s for $110. I hate to modify it, it looks and shoots so good. I might have to pony up and buy a Chinese or a Yugo just to trick it out. Seeing this vid makes me want a 20 rounder! Good job!

  • have you heard anything about 20rnd fixed mags, such as the Chinese ones?

  • @motorhead992 I've had some experience with the Chinese 20 rd "Star" mags years ago and they were not very reliable. I'm not sure if the ones around today are good or not. Thanks~

  • exellent vid you just inspired me to get an SKS and make it tactical

  • new york y i can have an ar-15 30 rond mag but not a 20 on my sks

  • I have never been a fan of the SKS until I bought one. I swapped out the 10rd for a 20 and an ATI stock, what a difference. I found that if you break the 20rd in (load and unload) they feed fine to all 20 through the stripper clip, also it is a lot faster than swapping out clips... another bonus is being able to carry a lot more ammo :) Thanks for the video!

  • i cut the wings off the bolt

so i can change mags with bolt closed

  • Tapco says that its 20 round magazine counts as 3 compliance parts under 922r (magazine body, follower, and floor plate) most of the trigger group parts are available US made, and Tapco also makes a gas piston for the SKS that counts as 1 part. when upgrading your SKS, it cannot have more than 10 foreign made parts on it. if u Google "GunWiki 922r SKS" there is a checklist that will add the parts up for u and tell u if your compliant or not.

  • When you talk about state laws at the end of the video, it would also be worthwhile to talk about compliance issues under 18 U.S.C. 922(r). My understanding's that if you add one of these Tapco 20 round mags to your (otherwise stock) SKS, then you must also replace a bunch of the rifle's other parts with US-made parts in order to comply with 922(r) and BATFE's interpretation of it. Tapco sells parts kits for this purpose.

  • @classof77 Yes, you're spot on. I'm planning a 922(r) compliance video soon once I get through all the details. Thanks for the comment~
