  • dis be good yo, moar

  • Ken's book "Out of Our Minds" changed my perspective of the world and changed my life. He is truly an inspiration, and I can't get enough of his work.

  • what he saw, most parents/teachers did not. that might be reason why some of us walk trough life like they are in someone else's skin and afraid to be what they always wanted

  • I've always hated the education system, thinking about how it only produces robotic beings.... Now after hearing this man's righteous words, i completely have a new sense of realization. I'll keep at it in earning my degrees and such, But i'll have this speech in my mind so as not to lose my mind really.

  • I love this!

  • That was Art.

  • it should be a requirement of being a human being to watch this. we would grow so much as a people ... or you can "jersey shore" your brain away...

  • This man is a genius. He said just about everything I needed to hear. See, my mother is very adamant about me expressing myself, and trying to make use of my passions and hobbies as a career because she believes that it'll be hard for me to survive on my own doing what I do (art, by the way). I really wish to get into graphics design or making comic strips/books like Stan Lee and Aaron McGruder did, because I have all these stories and characters I can't lose. Thanks for uploading this, Robert.

  • Home educators understand this very well... children need freedom to find out who they are, and what they are meant to be. Forcing notions about what they should be doing upon them is counter-productive.

  • Awesome video. Something that really opens my eyes and makes my feeling abstract a positive.

  • this gives me entire new outlook on life basically everyone who ever told me different can go fuck themselves excuse my launguage but yea....=) =) =) =)

  • @floop920 seriously im with you on that one

  • I'm going to try to make my school play this video to everyone :) hopefully it works out

  • I cannot fathom how intelligent this man is. That is true wisdom.

  • smart critique, stupid creates... be stupid!

  • Do you think Congress understands this?

  • @favoritefoods you don't have to pass an intelligence test to be in the Congress.

  • the irony is that although this is your leat viewed video, it has the highet amount of clarity

  • one of the best videos on youtube

  • Amazing speech

  • wow this is pretty brilliant

  • Speaks the truth about our educational system and the importance of creativity.

  • heh I'm so glad I watched this some time ago because now I have a source for my essay.

This is kind of inspiring... Teachers must watch this... Everyone should

  • Amazing speech! Every teacher and every future teacher should watch this.

  • @Adam1804 So true...and politicians also need to view this as well.

  • this is so true! I hated school, even though I did really good. and I couldnt wait for friday's which was the days that we had arts only for a fuckign hour. =/

  • Art, like friendship, has no survival value. Rather, it is one of those things which gives value to survival.

    -C.S. Lewis

Though I do well in school, I can't help but dance. Dance--in my mind, with my pen, or in body--is my constant state of being.

  • dance isnt important. its fun, but so is sex.

  • @Buddhabr0t Without sex no human/animal would exist.

    How is it not important?

  • @lolPantsProductions

    sex is fun and important

    dancing is fun and unimportant

so can we just concentrate on the first? ;)

  • very interesting

  • except from the asmatic laughs he is awsome

we should watch this in school

yeah, i hate it too :/

  • mann,, my mum should watch this..

  • Sir Ken Robinson was the guest speaker (and honorary doctorate recipient) at my college graduation this past May. He's so awesome and inspiring!

  • Comment removed

  • I love this video, I'm studying to be a teacher and they made us watch this in class.

  • ahh i totally agree with sir ken robinson on everything he pointed out.

then i ask myself, "why didn't i ever think of that? Why didn't i see the world this way?"

the answer.. "i got sent to school to get myself some public education."

  • I love this guy.

  • Three words, besides that this guy is brilliant, MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCE THEORY, as developed by Harvard's Howard Gardener.

It's the way of the future.

  • He talks about some boring stuff, but I was hooked and listened carefully because he blended it in a perfect way, adding humour. Man, he has a grand talent for speeches, this man.

  • Yep it's true. People are conditioned from cradle to grave to be good worker bees. buzz buzz

  • that was amazing.

  • Thank you for posting this.. best speech I ever Heard!!!

  • hahahaha ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!

  • what is the TED? Is it a convention???

  • Technology Entertainment Design conference

  • Technology

    Entertainment

    Design

    ted(dot)com

  • Best speech I've ever heard. But I believe blending yourself to be both academic and artistic is the way.

  • woww.. absolutely mind blowing, he's soo right about everything

  • think this is one of the only videos they showed in my facs tutorial that i paid attention to. great speech

  • nice speech

  • Everything this man is saying is what I've been feeling and thinking since I started to drift away from formal education. I love literature and art. I've always been lost somewhere in my own world, shunned for not paying attention. Somehow I always thought something was wrong with me. Thank god my parents didn't know what ADHD was. I'd like to see more ppl like him speak up about creativity the way he does, because people like me need it.

  • I always felt that music, arts and dance completed the way we took in the rest of our education. I hope that this video inspires more governments to maybe shell out some dough toward these programs. Even if funds are thight it's always worth it to know that someone passed all their subjects just to be able to do art like I did rather than not making it at all.

  • i couldn't stop smiling at the end when he said that she became a multimillionaire because of her "condition" and how now we just put people like her on medication and tell them to settle down. it's funny how society works like that, how society views many artists of all kinds as "problems in the system" when in all reality the artists are the ones who need to be allowed to flourish so that they can become successful and not to have their talents muffled with medication and theories.

  • So true it blew my mind...

  • if we could now make this happen, no doubt that the governing bodies behind education have not seen this... it's too late for me now since im at uni but i hope they get their act together quickly and act on this man's words, especially since my degree its gonna be pointless if every1 has a degree... here's to hoping

  • one of the most truthful and insightful videos i've ever watched.

  • fantastic video

  • That was fabulous! My high school has some programs but they are going no where but down hill because of lack of funding and interest. It is my hope that things will get better. It is because of that situation that I grew up in that I am becoming a music teacher to help out where I have seen others go wrong.

    Here's to hopes and dreams!!!

  • That was a great video

  • It's so refreshing to hear someone feel the way I do about not just the educational system but intelligence and how there's different definitions and ways of expressing one's intelligence. Really something important to know is that if we don't learn from our past mistakes in history and in life in general, then we're doomed to repeat them by passing it on to our children and our children's children.

  • this is fabulous

    i love it

  • i've been going backwards then

cause i was deathly afraid of being wrong as a child

and now i couldn't give two flying fucks

  • This man is absolutely amazing and correct, not to mention a bit funny. Everybody like us needs to here this speech.

  • oh my..... so inspiring seriously... loved it i wish i've heard it sooner. i wish that my formers teachers had heard it.... thank you rob for post it here... this it's what i call public service.

  • I cant believe I have only just seen this. Every word he spoke was so true. I feel the education system is flawed. The high school I attended had basically no arts what so ever, you could take art but that was about it. No drama, no dance, It didnt even have a choir. Even with sports, It had a basketball team and a netball team, and the netball team was all the lasted. Heres hoping things change for the future.

  • Great speech. I'm glad I had great art teachers. I'm not famous or anything but I believe music, art, dance, etc. Should be in every school. I mean we all live on the media so why not endorse more people to produce it.

  • Are these speaches on tv? if not how could i get into one of these confrences. Either way sir ken is a very smart man.

  • I think the arts always take a back seat to the content core classes, simply because for the average person, math, english, science, and social studies are just more applicable for the average job out there.. I mean if you're inclined artistically more than academically there are always performing arts school that will serve you better...just my opinion.

  • Brilliant. Absolutely awesome. If there wasn't choir in high school I would not have made it through. They almost had to cut it at one point but we fought back and got them to keep all of the arts. And thank God for that.

  • a video longer than 10 minutes?!

  • great speech.

  • your cool its not his fault you lack the capabilities to THINK!

  • Is that Paul McCartney in the beginning? 00:47 or something?

  • Yep, it is!

  • Wow! Well said. I can totally relate.

  • I go to an art university, and this makes so much sense. Everyone always pushed me to be academic, and I almost lost my drive to become a photographer/graphic designer. And people still think me going to art school is a way to slack off, but let me tell you, art school is about as hard as medical school. With less sleep, no right answers, and more caffeine. Just because you're an artist or creative, does not mean you're doing nothing with your life. This video needs to be posted everywhere!

  • Best description of Professors ever. Weird that I think the exact same thing :-P

  • every single word is so true .... briliant speech .. great mind

  • this guy is an inspiration

  • This guy talks alot of sense. The Arts aren't taken seriously in a lot of schools, which is sad. I have always been interested in the Arts, e.g Drama and Film. But i have had so many people telling me i took the dumb subjects. I saw my cousins school performance today, it was all based on Dance. And they were all Amazing. The amount of effort and time they put into it deserves to be recognized just as much as anything else studied in school.

  • i dont understand !! its funny ?

  • Finally someone speaking out on what I have been trying to tell everyone all along... I wish I could have shared with this with my dad 10 years ago...

  • i saw the length & i was like 20mins! but not a single bit of it was boring

  • what an awesome speech. not only informative, but funny as fuck! i believe this is the longest vid on youtube i've ever watched.

  • !!!!!!!this idea will save the world and us if we will try to bring it to others who doesn't want to listen and keep their eyes shot.

i wanned to dance and draw too but my parents told me it's not serious and it's not a job and that i wont b able to make a career being a dancer or a painter and made me to enter the Pharmaceutical university! a lot of children in the world have the same situation!!! we have to do something!!!

  • This is such an eye opener. This needs to be passed on to as many people as possible so more and more people are aware.

  • It is so true what he says about degrees!! I am a Speech and Hearing Science major and I can't do jack sh*# with that degree until I get my masters in Speech therapy or my doctorate in Audiology. It kinda sucks. Luckily I know I love this line of work and I want to do it for the rest of my life. Robert, your videos are great, hilarious, and every other compliment you can think of, however, this is one of the best videos you have posted!!!

  • If I wasnt encouraged to be creative at home I would of never have been creative in school. Teach your children at home and they'll carry it everywhere.

  • this man is brilliant! its true what he says about lecturers being walking heads - i feel myself becoming more and more like that too. im glad im a science kid: education worked out for me. i'd hate to think how awful itd be if school had neglected what i was interested in.

  • Oddly enough this was probably the last kind of video I expected to see when I came to check if Urban Ninja III was up yet!

I had a LONG WINDED comment here (basiclaly to say WORD!) but I went over the character limit so I'm going to IM you instead. I hope! XD

  • As someone who was artistic and academic in school, I can relate to what this clip is saying. I am also a teacher. I know that in my own practice I will be introducing my students to as many different types of art as possible. This clip was shown to me at a staff meeting at an elementary school that I was working at. Rest assured that we in the education system are aware and doing something about it!

  • When Gordon Brown mercifully has a heart attack and while Cameron is making a fool of himself... slide this guy into number 10. I bet he can put the Great back into Britain.

  • ya know what, that's the best thing i've heard all week.

  • hey... i too, am one of those who love acting! but my parents never allowed me to join performing arts & all... It's true... the creativity side never gets attention at all... this man is awesome... because everything he says is based on true experience... "nobody knows how god looks like" "They are gonna"... hehe...

  • 3000 views. wtf?

  • i absolutely loved this speech... i was one of those students who loved the arts and hated math and science and english... and no not everyone has to dance through math class... but i think dance and the arts should be recognized more within society and valued like any other education..there are tons of ppl out in this world with amazing mind and creativity in the arts...not only with P.H.D's or masters degrees

  • Wow, I'm just finishing my Masters and on my way to become an university professor, and this got me really depressed. I think this guy is mostly right, but I wouldn't agree that our educational system is wrong in principle. I don't think everyone should dance as they should learn math. And I don't think our school is that effective on killing creativity. We still got dancers... our friend Rob is one of them. But yeah, makes us wonder.

  • This man is not only brilliant, but also hilarious. He's amazing.

  • this man is so right about how in school your just taught to a specific side of your brain, my creative side never got attention

  • unless you go to a performing arts school or an athletically inclined school, you are never taught that side of your brain.

  • he's absolutely right. about academic inflation, about the arts, about everything. i don't know how i could get through my academic classes without my painting and i know my best friend could not get through her classes without her dance. i can't imagine what it'd be like to not have those things, to not have been introduced to them. but like he says, most people aren't introduced to them, and it's a direct result of how schools are set up.

i would love to have a conversation with this man.

  • omg i loved this video!!

  • i dont get it :S

  • i like this guy...he came to my school to speak...i like that he recognizes that the arts is a great way to educate, inspire, and spark creativity...in any type of career.

  • i chuckled

  • Thanks for sharing that.

  • I am nothing more than a guard....I work at a school that does what most schools don't....they teach art, music, and dance. The school is absolutely amazing, the teachers are wonderful and the students are respectful and pretty well behaved.

What is in this video is more real then most think.....I hope somday Ken Robinson's thoughts and idea's become a reality!!

  • wow flyonthewall23 you're fucking ridiculous

  • wow flyonthewall23 you're fucking ridiculous

  • Flyonthewall, what's your problem? If you don't wanna listen to this video, simply go to another web page. Not that hard. I'm sick of these stupid negative comments. Gosh.

  • Dude, chill nobody put a gun to your head and forced you to watch it.

  • don't like it? don't watch. it's that simple. don't like his other videos? don't watch them either, and go get a better sense of humor while you're at it. clearly you need one.

  • pretty well.. not pretty good. man

  • shut up.

  • it was a joke. calm down!

  • Dead on speech! Totally agree!!

  • ...??

I think I'll watch it later.

  • okay first, this happens in monterey?? no way. i live in monterey and didnt know anything about this.

second, this is absolutely correct. schools do revolve around core subjects as they call it. although i am one of those people who dont have trouble with academics, i agree that schools strip away creativity. i used to be so artistic- dance, music, and art. now all i can do is write a grammatically correct paper.

thank god we have colleges to choose from to persue what we wish...

    great post

  • same. I'm a really good student but it annoys me when you can't think outside the box.

  • Spot on! I hated school, too. Now I know why and like to think I turned out pretty well in spite of it. :)

  • Great post Rob but it's Sir Ken Robinson (British author). Not Ted Robinson (NBC sportscaster).

  • TED speech.

  • Great post Rob but it's Sir Ken Robinson (British author). Not Ted Robinson (NBC sportscaster).

  • wow...

    this is so true!

  • i feel so sorry for myself...i'm italian and even though i have a pretty good english i can't fully understand this speech. i'm so sad right now u.u

    i'm sorry for the spam

  • Yaaa i agree i too ! Absolutely true!

  • Thanks for posting this, Rob. I definitely agree with this. And yeah, no thanks to them you did do VERY good. Congratulations on all your success. =)

  • even though I smile several times while watching it's really sad to admit that all he said is so true :( schools really kill creativity, mine does...

  • nice speech. there's a lot true things

  • Thanks for posting that, I now have a mental note for my future children

  • can i like download this and show it to my dad?

    XD XD XD

  • damn, this freakin' true.

  • amazing speech. kickass lol

  • hey hoffman, i've seen StepUp2 and it was fucking great man, fucking nice choreography really nice!

  • When are you going to add more of Soulmate and Emo Anthony? I went to see Step Up 2 last night I'm really happy for your success lol.

  • excellent!!!

  • This speech is so true, structured school is so repressive to creativity and it has too many boundaries.... Ted Robinson, freaking genius.

  • absolutely great speech and also very true i hope that a lot of people realize.....btw, this guy is funny, he can make people laugh unlike others who just talk and makes every single moment really boring

  • couldnt agree more!!!

  • great speech and hilarious guy!

  • Im studying visual arts and education and they definitely have us think critically about the education system that were in, and finding out how rigid and restricting it can be. Also, how education is no longer for the sake of learning, but for the preparation of a future career. Teachers are also learnings, and the process of learning is a complex activity...

neway, this was helpful~ cant wait to see more of punchrobert videos though!

  • This guy is good. Great speech!

  • haha you didnt get the first view

  • were you there when this was filmed or did you film it. sorry i have to go can't finish the vid

  • YAY FIRST VIEW!

    I LOVE YOU, ROBERT HOFFMAN!

    besides that;great video.

its really quite true...my uncle works in education and he feels the exact same way about it all as this man.
