I don't really get this "X is better than Y" thing. The Pixies made an amazing song (like all of theirs, really!), and Yoav created a brilliant interpretation—putting in a whole different space/mood/context. Which one do I like *better*? Neither! Both pieces equally coexist in my mind (wherever it is!!). Sometimes I'm in the mood for Pixies' original punk/grunge, other times I'm in the mood for Yoav's more atmospheric version. :)

i'm a big fan of pixies and i have to say that it's impossible to top their version by just playing it as it is. this doesn't really sound like the original, but as a standalone song it's really beautiful. a great interpretation.

When the version isn't that much of a departure (and I don't believe this one to be leaps and bounds away from the original) comparison is a pretty easy and understandable thing to do. And in my original comment, none of those were significant departures.

Whereas, with something like Ben Folds' cover of NWA's B***** Ain't S***, or Tori Amos' cover of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit, the comparison can be a bit more difficult.

I think I like both versions of this song about the same. This one has a melancholy vibe, and the Pixies have a trippy, "what are they talking about?" vibe. They both do different things, and pull it off.

I seen him play this live last night at the Live Lounge in Ottawa , and it was amazing! I loved the original and this will never compete with it but is very original and in it's own catergory as it's a completely different song. I love the direction that yoav is going and it's amazing to think that all his stuff is done with a loop pedal and a guitar.
