  • Can I install iOSX on a dell inspiron?

  • Hi!

I found a service online that will put osx 10.6 on a thumb drive.

    Any thoughts?

  • @MegaKegHead do they use your disc or just install it? You should own a licensed copy if you do this.

  • @zollotech why should it be licensed?

  • @MegaKegHead what is that service called

  • Hi!

    I have a dell mini 9 w/16gb ssd & 2gb ram.

I'd like to run osx 10.6 off a usb thunb drive..not install.

Can I just goto an apple store and have them put osx 10.6 on a thumb drive and run off that without boot installers ect/

    thanks!

  • @MegaKegHead I am sure the Apple store won't load it onto a flash drive for you. I am not sure you could run off a thumb drive either. There may be a way, but I am not currently aware of how you would do that.

  • any chance you have a version of this tutorial for 10.6.3 or 10.6.1?

  • @inacentaur unfortunately I don't. It has become easier to do now too. Check the dell forums for instructions as that is where I got these instructions. If I come across another dell mini 9 I will plan to do an updated guide.

  • @zollotech been at the dell mini forums - tried every single method there and got none to work :-(... most of them mention the usage of 10.5.x or 10.6.2, so my only guess is that it's due to 10.6.3. i have the 10.6.3 retail, 2 usb's, and even an external usb (as required by failed another method i tried). any help appreciated!

  • There is a faster way to get osx. Close you computer, run to the closest apple store, steal a showmodel macbook, and there you go. should work fine!

  • @furtjes10 cool then u can use it in your prison cell

  • so dose it have imovie or w.e and dose it work on windows 7 to

  • so the dell mini notebook will act exactly like and have the same programs as a mac if i download this??

  • @AyeItsDre Yes, but don't expect to do any video editing with decent speed, but general functions work great.

  • @zollotech dose this work with othr netbooks that have windows 7?

  • hi i cannot find how to download the sylinux, does anybody can give me a link, i will appreciate your help

  • hi, what is the right link for dellmini.comfurom , please update the link. thanks

  • will this work on acer aspire one d250?

    i currently have windows 7 ultimate(first) and dualed w/ubuntu netbook remix(second)

i have 8g flashdrive and a 250g external usb hardrive.

    im ready to do work

  • @gerbilplay4

These machines don't have optical diskdrives by default.

Syslinux is by far the easiest to burn a disk-image (iso) onto a USB thumbdrive.

  • also do u get viruses like the dell and have 2 buy protection or does it not get any viruses like the mac does?

  • if it is running osX from the first day you boot it up it will not get viruses but if you are using it and have gotten viruses while running windows you will need protection.. but no it wont get viruses while running mac osx

  • i have a question can ichat work normally on the dell mini 9 with a 3 person chat and everything thx :)

  • wheres section 2 you are talking about...?

  • nice!!!

    5 stars and subscribed!!

    Thank you so much!!!

  • if i do this will i still have windows xp? or will the new software delete it?

  • Get "Parted Magic" (google it) and get an iso cd burner. When you have the iso, burn it to a dvd. When it's burned to a disc, put the disc in (when you're logged into windows) then restart, and it should load if your bios is set up right! Then use the partition editor to shrink your xp partition to the minimum, and create a new partition and use all the available space. When you install os x, select the new partition and it should dual boot! This might work simalar on a usb stick if u find a tut

  • could i use an ipod for the 8gb flash drive?

  • I don't think so...you can use a hard drive though

  • im thinking bout gettin' a acer aspire one netbook and i was wonderin' which build wud b best that allows updatin' and i wont have too much trouble with drivers... can anyone help?

  • this install only works this way on the dell netbooks. I am not sure what is involved with the aspire. You should check some place like anandtech for a comparison of ease of installation

  • i will thanks

  • Does this work on the Mini 10? I got my Mini 10 to boot to the USB that has all the files. It hangs on System Model Name: Inspiron 1010.

  • what happens if you use the grey restore disc?

  • So the trackpad doesnt work. What about sound and airport?

  • everything works without a problem

  • nice video, you sound like Kevin from the Office lol.

  • Thank you for pronouncing OS X correctly!

    And for a great tutorial.

  • you need a seperate mac to do this?

  • will this work on other pcs or netbooks?

  • it will work on the MSI Wind and some others, but it is not updatable like this one and it is a different setup.

  • do the track pad gestures work?

  • no...they don't

  • nice ;)

  • ok so.... is it illeagal?

  • To my understanding it is a gray area. The disk I used is legal , but supposedly Apple says you cannot install it on non-Mac hardware. I believe this is being debated due to some companies selling their own hardware with OSX on it. However, this video was to show how and the rest of it is up to you.

  • if apple allows there apple owners to install windows on there osx then they should be bitching about us messing with there os on a non-apple computer so no its not illegal.
