@rpogatchnik: You people focus on the illegals, a very very small percentage of the population. Why aren't you people criticizing the wealthy for sending jobs overseas? For taking huge subsidies from the feds? That's the real problem.
Judy, I really do not know what "Koolaid you are referring to and I suspect that you don't either. All you psuedo intellectuals speak in platitudes and verses from songs yhat make no sense.
Please understand , I am in fact the middle class. I agree with every word that came from his mouth.
It seems you people fail to understand that all politicians are dirt bags. They had to sell out to someoine in order to get elected. We the middle class have lost our say in the governing of our country.
@rpogatchnik: Just responding to the koolaid phrase the tea party is always tossing at the liberals. In reality you people are the duped ones. Most folks I know work very hard. They don't want a check handed to them for nothing. The only people I know of who want a check handed to them for nothing are the wealthy.
@rpogatchnik Yeah but consider this, illegals with "proper paperwork" the way we can solve this issue according to the GOPers and most Democrats: Cut back on law enforcement across the board.
Second issue to get a convincing fake US Passport it would be worth at least $500 and while for drug traders this may be possible, for most, I doubt it.
This guy is the poster child for lying dog politicians. The reason Soc Sec is going broke is because he and his ilk are giving the money to those who don contribute: ie; illegals, criminals, welfare slugs. This guy is nothing more than human debris.
@rpogatchnik You're incredibly uneducated. It is impossible to give social security as welfare and how they hell would you give social security to someone who DOESN'T have a social security number? Not to mention, welfare comes from the state, not the fed govt. You're a moron.
We really need a stronger messaging system. Sanders seems to be a lone voice & although he is doing a GREAT job of informing the public, he shouldn't be alone when we have Fox distorting the truth on the masses! We should write & shame our congressional representatives & ask them to do more! Follow Bernie's lead!
How about all of these idiots save and invest their own money towards retirement instead of doing nothing but expect a handout when they become older. When did we become a nation of children, unable to do for ourselves?
@majob11112: This "nation of children" as you put it for the most part work very hard. You expect them to chance putting life savings into some privately owned fund, a fund that could easily fail given the market tendency? Did you even notice what happened to the banks a couple years ago? Privatize Social Security. Yeah right.
@majob11112 We are saving our own money. It's called the payroll tax. Look at your paycheck. Your employer makes an equal contribution. Where do you think the 2.6 trillion in U.S. Treasury Bonds in the Social Security Trust Fund came from, and where do you think benefits are paid from? The only reason SocSec deficits (more going out than comes in) look like they affect the national debt and deficit is because congress chose not to count the Treasury bonds SocSec buys until they are sold.
An example of a TRUE progressive. Sanders is a man whom I admire for he speaks the truth for those of us who have had our voices stolen by corporate lobbyists and ultra extreme right lunatics who have hi-jacked this nation.
If Social Security is so good why don't you give up your retirement plan and pay into and Social Security and retire on Social Security and not your big bucks plan. Don't forget to go on Medicare when your retire and pay big dollars for your supplement plan like the rest of us do.
We are past the time of asking the millionaires & billionaires to do anything. I say we tell them what they are going to do. After we tell them what is expected of them as American's, we shake a knot in the asses of these corporations who are robbing the American people from every side. I believe that allowing these companies to not only "NOT" pay taxes for year after year, but to allow loop holes that give them a "RETURN" in taxes is ample reason for a "REVOLUTION" in this country & I mean NOW
... that lies deep in the souls of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is to be less feared. — Cicero
A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable for he is known and carries his banners openly. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself... for the traitor appears no traitor: He speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their faces and their garments, he appeals to the baseness...
Thank you Senator Bernie Sanders for defending the average American from the wealthy class. It has to be a lonely job. The only thiing that is depressing about listening to Sen. Sanders is the realization that there are so few people like Sen. Sanders in Congress. Great comments by Senator Sanders on Social Security--and the Republicans.
What an idiot. Instead of offering solutions he'd rather point his finger and complain. Do the country a favor Senator Sanders and do what you were sent to cesspool on the Potomac to do. Work with your fellow legislators and solve problems. Sticking your tongue out at the opposit party doesn't solve anything. If Tip O'Neal and Ronald Reagan can find a way to work together, there's no reason why today's politicians can't.
@mptimon He gave solutions: (1) remove the salary cap for social security taxes, (2) reduce military spending, (3) let the tax breaks for the richest people in the US expire like they were supposed to. What is your solution?
Social Security is not solvent. New congressional estimates say the trust fund that supports Social Security disability will run out of money by 2017, leaving the program unable to pay full benefits, unless Congress acts. About two decades later, Social Security’s much larger retirement fund is projected to run dry as well. It's time to REFORM ALL GOVERNMENT ASSISTANT PROGRAMS NOW -- ELSE WE LOSE THEM! How about the first step to get millionaires off SS and Medicare? And I'm GOP!
@mptimon WOW YOU ARE IGNORANT!!!! Did you listen at all to what he said? You might want to go back and listen to the SOLUTIONS he gave to the people that have problems with social security. His job as a legislator is to protect the best interests of the people and that is EXACTLY what he is doing. Open a book sometime and get off your TEA PARTY wagon for just a second, and realize that your REPUBLICAN official's care not about you, but about what you can do for them...
I am 49 worked since I was 11 and paid into the system I made over a million dollars before I became totally disabled and get a pittance of $1700 with 2 kids . There has been no raise for us in 2 years at least and no $250.00 the was promised to us .
Thank God we have Harry Reid as the Majority Leader? Really? I didn't hear anything you said after that jewel of wisdom. Bernie, why didn't you call for a new 911 investigation? How come you have never questioned 911 as carried out by the Cheney (Bush) administration?. Please spare us another of your "I'm one of you" speeches. You are not one of us. You are just one more politician committed to keeping the American people divided and fighting between the right and the left.
Thank You Senator Sanders. You cannot stress these points enough. Privatize Social Security and guess who gets the money? Wallstreet! Raising taxes on the richest in our society will bring us out of our debt. We don't have debt crises we have a revenue crises. The richest pay nothing in taxes and get billions of dollars tax RETURNS! We cannot allow this country to slip deeper into an oligarchic society.
Look up the definition of socialism, do the same with Fascism.
Republicans keep calling Social Security an entitlement. Well, it is. People who for years & years have paid into Social Security are entitled to its promised benefits. Now Republicans want to convince us that we are greedy & lazy for expected to reap from the fruits of our labor. Why? So they can steal from the Social Security Fund to hand out tax breaks and kickbacks to the oligarchs they serve.
Keep standing up for the People Bernie! Thank you.
The only way they can make off with our Social Secuirty is if we ALLOW them to do so!!! Tell your Senator, your Congressman, OUR President HELL NO! Please check out the 32 "Democrats" who signed the Bennett Letter to Obama asking him to adopt the Deficit Commission's proposal. Think you will be suprised that not only Franken, but Brown signed that letter.
@captcrais101 they've already worked together on a push to audit the fed. they have their differences but they're both honest politicians who have the people in mind. and they do agree on not a few important issues, like ending the wars and auditing the fed.
