i use to have my email setup working, but recently i have had a new sim card and whenever i click on email settings or go to setup wizard and choose email setup it says'your device had a problem connecting to the server' i have tried doing this whilst connected to about 5 different wifi connectors so it must be something wrong with the phone. got any solutions please???

Hi Black berry, I have a HUGE problem that I've been crying over!!! To do that you have to edit the settings for "Sounds."

It's the speaker icon on the top right of your home screen. Hover over it, it should says "Sounds (and something else.)"

Click on that speaker icon, scroll down to "Edit Profiles." From there you have to click on each custom profile (or sounds level) and set the e-mail ringer individually. So, for example, scroll down to "vibrate only," click it, and you should see "Name: Vibrate Only," "Phone-

For people who need help, if you only have the Enterprise option you need to activate the BlackBerry Internet Service plan on your network. To do this select customer service representative on your networks help line (this is usually the same line you check your topup on, or the same line as the one you can get your PUK code from). Usually Orange UK messes this part up and wastes one of your monthly payments without you noticing you only have SMS and Wi-Fi only browsing.

If your personal email icon is missing perform the following steps:

Go to settings, then options, then advanced options, then host routing table, then hit the blackberry button, the register now. Wait about 1-2 hours then reboot by taking the battery out. It should work now!

So It turns out it was simply an account issue for me. I had the same error as most other posters. Because I switched from an Android phone to the BlackBerry I figured since both were smart phones my Data plan would work. Blackberries however require a specific data package to function properly. With the android data plan I could access the internet but not the app store or email. after switching to the Blackberry plan I was able to do everything that was expected.

I just called my phone supplier, I'm with Rogers. I just switched from my HTC Magic with the data plan to the Curve 9300. I had a data plan which included e-mail social networking the app store etc. But I've been running into the same problem when trying to set up my e mail or downloading the BlackBerry Appworld.

@oOBlindyOo Of course when I asked to switch my Data package to the appropriate Blackberry Data Package the service was "temporarily unavailable" So I need to call back in 2 hours, I've talked to a few friends and they said they needed to do the same. So hopefully I am on the right track and this post was of use to everyone.

@vpernikar Yeah I had the same issue.

To get the data package try calling your service provider and talking to the account changes and billing rep. (thats what I did with Rogers anyway) and make the request for the BlackBerry specific Data plan, they should know what you are talking about. There are many blackberry data packages so be sure to specify the one you are looking for. I'm no expert when it comes to phones but that is what I had to do. Hopefully this helps. Good luck!

I have my e-mail set up already, but every time I would read an e-mail on my blackberry device it would automatically be listed as open on my Hotmail inbox, or when I would send out an e-mail from my device, a copy would also go to my sent folder in my Hotmail. when I got a software upgrade and I set up my Hotmail e-mail again, whenever i receive an e-mail on my blackberry device and i read it it still shows as unread on my inbox, and the emails i send from my device don't go to sent folder

@binkme It should be, but check with your provider; I've just ordered a Blackberry from T-Mobile UK; I pay £15 a month for 300 mins and 300 texts, and a further £5 a month for unlimited internet, which includes email. Again, check with your provider. Hope this helps...

@afgthug7 ya, with verizon wireless you can't even get this phone or set it up without a data plan which is 29.99 a month. you need it because you are accessing the internet and to do that on the road you need access to 3g although wifi is faster.

This option can be located in different places depending upon your BlackBerry smartphone model, software version and theme. It also requires that you are provisioned for a BlackBerry Internet Service data plan.

When your device registers on the wireless network two (5-Click) Service Books are sent to the device which places this icon in default location.

There are a few things that can prevent the icon from displaying :the service book not being on the smartphone, or icon being hidden.

First check under Options >> Advanced Options >> Service Book >> verify that there are both a 5 Click BISClientConfig [BISClientConfig] & IPPP for 5 Click [IPPP] service book present on your BlackBerry smartphone. If there is not you may want contact your wireless provider to verify that you have the correct data plan.

If the Service Book is present make sure that there are no icons hidden by choosing the menu key on home screen and Show All if the option is there.
