They called Jimmy Page sloppy and for most of his career he never missed a note. Same with Ace Frehley. Sloppy is a term invented by jealous 12 year olds who are just picking up a guitar and are intimidated by the skill of men like Clark.
Calling Steve "sloppy" is an irrelevant criticism. Bottom line, the guy wrote great songs, which is the most important thing. And nothing against Phil, but if you ask most fans who the prefer as a guitarist, most will say Steve.
i think they both are awesome..i really love steve but we dont have to forget that phil was his close friend, and def leppard wouldnt have been the same with one guitarrist...but it really anoys me that he was replaced by vivian, i mean it was necessary to be replaced..but at least for a guy that is the same good as him! i hate vivians style, and the songs became ...good..they were awesome and incredible and then they were just good
Clark was the Jimmy Page of the 80s! He was sloppy only in a strictly technical sense. He might not have been as buffed to a sheen as Collen, but a hell of a guitar player nonetheless who sold emotion with every note.
I need your help there is one article on the wikipedia that is the List of Gibson players en . wikipedia . org / wiki / List_of_Gibson_players and steve its not there can you believe that? one asshole blocked me although I had give enough sources to put him on the list. I f you want to help me please join the discussion and let's put steve on this list, go to discussion button on the top
What I always loved about Steve Clark was that he never felt the need to show off. He certainly had the chops to "shred" on every song if he wanted to - but he didn't (unlike his peers). His solos were tasteful, melodic, and always supported the song. He was a great riff-meister and wrote most of the band's catchiest melodies. He was humble, and very few people realize just how good he was. R.I.P.
This song should end EVERY concert that Def Leppard does for the encore, AC/DC would never do a show and ignore HIghway to Hell. Def Leppard and Joe Elliott in particular forgets where it all started.
@TrueSMCfan According to the fan website they will be starting a tour in 2011. Also, when they were here in NY last 2009 Joe said they would be back, I can't wait ! I hope they hit Upstate NY again in 2011.
LOl, awesome! But really now, who helped this person whose tapping this, with carrying the video camera in, haha! 1983 we did not have small digital cameras. MAN, I loved my 80's. DL was sooo good, still are, saw them 2009 here in upstate NY and will again in 2011!
I know man, some people said he played sloppily, but I beg to differ, he had such unorthadox box shapes to follow. So emotional in every note he played. Riff in peace Steve.
Steve was sloppy just means he wasn'T a technician and buffed a note sometime or just played notes out of no where which was really unusual but nonetheless sounded great. he was Jimmy page.

@knoxpages Yes, I agree with you. Steve's compositional skills and riffs were very Page-like.

Był bardzo utalentowanym gitarzystą i robił niezły show na scenie... W końcu inspirował się Jimmym Page'em ;)
