I haven't seen the episode in question, so seeing Data geefully announce, "I can reduce this pumping station.... to a pile of debris!" cracked me up. xD
I guess siding with the Ba'ku while trying to relocate the Natives would seem like a double standard if protecting the Ba'ku meant starting a war with the Cardassians. Or did you forget that?
@hassmann2000 To be fair, Nostalgia Critic reviews are only 30-60 minutes long, so he doesn't have a lot of time to really get into the mechanics of a film like Mr. Plinkett can. That said, I thought NC did a fair job with what he had.
GEN: Killing an icon in the worst way possible, destroying an iconic ship, numerous plot woes...what IS right here?
FC: Trek+Moby Dick, as Picard faces his demons, the Borg, in a story with epic scope, character development, and, a few nagging issues aside, it's the best TNG film
INS: ...Fluff...
NEM: Data's death/rebirth in B-4 and Picard w/Shinzon help some, but it's not AT ALL a TUC-level send-off
ST09: Like TVH, it's made for fun--a fun rebirth for Trek, now, back to business
0:32 ''In fact, you could say it's the closest they ever got to capturing the tone of the the TV show on the big screen. But it was really more like a good-two-parter-episode-thing. But that was the problem because this is a movie.''
Remember when ''quotes'' used to mean something, like, oh I don't know, ''word for word''.
Plinkett speaks for all of us-"Fuck you Rick Berman, you lazy incompetent motherfucker"
Also, they took a jab as Babylon 5. Yes its special effects were cheap, even by the standards of the time, but that wasnt the point. It was about the STORY-enthralling plot, fascinating characters, and good stories. Thats what B5 is, and Star Trek use to be about.
"I like this movie the most because it seems the most like the series. But I don't like it because it feels like an episode in the series. It's supposed to be a movie."
What he was saying is that, while he appreciates the fact that the movie goes back to its roots by acting like its show, it just couldn't happen. When a movie based off a show just more or less seems like a longer episode, and nothing felt accomplished, well we don't really like it. It's like a meh factor. Something extraordinary must happen so we can consider it a movie. So yeah, cool that it was like the show, but it just can't work out.
Dude, you piece the excerpts together so well between the film and the tv show SOOOOOO well to make your point about the contradictions. In other words your editing on this is exceptional. love it.
My main issue with Star Trek is crime, racism, religion, and war. That will always exist. Instead of hating each other, humans would hate various alien races. Also religion is a very important part of peoples beliefs. That's not going anywhere either. They make Humans out to be weak in the way they approach everything. That isn't how people are. Some people get a thrill out of causing chaos or committing crimes.
@rbh1138 150 years ago they said France, Spain, and England will always fight each other. Now the chance for war in Europe is about 0.000001%. Religion is already on the decline in highly developed countries, the only exception is the USA. Racism exists only where there are just one or a few clearly defined minorities. The diversity of the UFP is so big basically everyone is in some kind of minority. As for crime there are criminals in Star Trek.
@nishjaxx The Baku aren't humans, the Indians were. What if they were all played by black actors, or Hispanics? It wouldn't matter, as they're aliens. Picard placed aliens over humans.
So if you want to say Picard is biased toward aliens, that would be one thing. But this "racism" thing is dumb.
@Dragblacker I can say whatever I want guy. I was only poking fun at the movie anyway. I am a Star Trek fan and to be honest, Picard in my opinion was the best Captain in any of the series's. Great actor in Patrick Stewart as well. Besides, alien or human all people are a "race" of something anyway. Human race, humanoid race. Aliens are just a race SOMETHING whether humanoid or not. There are alot of funny bits in this guys review. All I did was just write one thing he touch...kinda. Happy??
tv show picard vs movie picard LOL, so TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!
star trek is just one big contradiction after the other. Technobabble crap to move the plot along. thats why ds9 was the best. it had great characters, real emotions. something like how we would expect we'd still be in the future. And st just shines better when blowing stuff up. All these moral plots just contradict themselves.
I agree with almost all of RLM's reviews...I still really like First Contact, but other than that, yes, the TNG crew were screwed over royally for their moves...
Now I liked First Contact, infact it's my favorite of the next generation films. Never saw Generations, Insurrection was a waist of time, and Nemesis.... lets never bring that up again.
@nightwishfan1991 Generations is an abomination for simultaneously making the TNG crew look stupid, destroying the Enterprise-D, and killing off Kirk in the worst way possible
First Contact, contrary to what some reviewers on YouTube think, is a great TNG movie, brings a good end to the TNG/Borg/Picard battle, looks great, and while it has a few logical holes the pace more than makes up for it.
Insurrection is like a bad episode of TNG...for 2 and a half hours
@obiwanobiwan13 , First Contact was okay, but I found it unsettling that while one half of the crew is battling for their lives with the borgs and while another half is yukking it up on Earth. And the Borg went back in time to assimilate Earth, the crew went back to undo it. So why couldn't the borg go back again, making this an endless time loop.
@sondano , well it seems they have enough energy to do it whenever they need to. Why can't the borgs simply wait a couple of years and then go back again.
I have seen a lot of movies based on TV shows and I have come to a realization. For the most part, the TV shows are a timeline of events for the characters in the show. But the movies on the other hand is a full length event that could have happened during the show, but does not fit in the original timeline. For example, in the TV shows last episode, Data is a college professor, but at the end of Star Trek Nemesis, he is destroyed. Its an alternate timeline.
@PowerRangers12345 "but does not fit in the original timeline. For example, in the TV shows last episode, Data is a college professor, but at the end of Star Trek Nemesis, he is destroyed. Its an alternate timeline. "
Yes. In one timeline the writers had talent. In the other timeline, they didn't.
What do you mean by "they"? The writers decades ago that still had talent and could write an actual story, or the non-writers today who cut their script and say "here be the expensive CGI, so we don't have to write anymore"
If you want some real double standards to complain about, watch this: yout u be.c o m/watch?v=FJjSzXkm55o&featur e=player_ embe dded
I'd say that Picard was totally justified in his decisions, the same way that a father is justified in fighting harder for his own kids than someone else's.
@Remorselesslymine But isn't that the point, that he is supposed to be objective given his rank and station, and that he long established character always tried to act that way?
Sigh... The big source of devision in this movie was being forced to choose between letting a few hundred people stay on some planet they just found by accident a few years ago... Or, usher in a new age of medical science that would save billions of lives and improve the quality of life for several civilizations.
It's not like they were even trying to enslave or oppress those people.... They just want them to get out of the fucking way so they can save billions of lives!
@glamourknight the only problem with that is that according to the script the Ba'ku should have looked like aliens with a particular skin pattern. The story was written with that in mind, not with white people in mind. They dropped the makeup thing I think because of the Picard-Anij affair. But that kills the whole Insurrection is racist bullshit
@kranktank yeah, theres just ironic that someone, who probably isnt really a moron, is calling something stupid when they sound slow. I do like the vid though
The reason why Picard violated orders in Insurrection is because the Son'a were Dominion allies. They wanted the Bak'u planet to construct a new Ketracel White facility. Picard violated his orders because the admiral was obviously a Dominion spy and knew that in the grand scheme, aiding the Dominion was not justifiable by the Prime Directive.
Ceding the planet of Indians to Cardassia was to avoid war after the end of the Bajoran occupation. Wasn't right to Trail of Tears 'em, but necessary.
But Picard's situation is a little different from Larry's. Like you said, the Indians were Federation citizens which meant that the planet was under Federation jurisdiction and obligated to follow its laws. Assuming the Federation charter treats a Treaty the same way the US Constitution treats a Treaty, the Treaty's rules take priority over the Constitution. Here, these people and their planet aren't affiliated with the Federation whatsoever. Therefore these don't seem to be in conflict.
Suddenly starfleett doesnt care they'll be wiping out all life on the planet. The radiation medicine sounded sketchy, isn't it more logical to set up a Risa-like resort for sick people on the planet? just visit the planet until your healed, with its pristine environment.
Star trek the force unzipped.

TWOK: Star Trek idealism meets Shakespearean drama...Trek at it's best
TSFS: We lose the Enterprise and regain Spock...it's an average film, not wholly good or bad
TVH: Easily the most light-hearted of the Trek films, it's a funny, refreshing film to this day

@SkyDoginthetube True, but some people just can't function right unless they are whining about how "racist" a token White person is. *eye roll*

Hahaha :() Picard risked his career to help a sexy white M.I.L.F. , but told an old indian man in the same exact situation to make a "sacrifice".

7:30-9:30 That was a DEVASTATING edit job.
Picard does a complete one-eighty when its white people who want help.
