It is just a matter of time as the rate of advancement in technology doubles itself every decade. If all cars obeyed the rules things would be much faster and smoother for everyone. @Novocaine888 I enjoy driving too, but the real advantage to self driving cars is safety. An autonomous car could theoretically see 360 degrees around itself 100% of the time, and should be able to react to danger many times faster than even an expert driver at the wheel.

Mind you, it's more likely that we'll see automated saftey systems which let you drive but give the saftey advantages of the self-driving car, which is a nice trade off.
