Never get a bird just so it will talk unless you'll still respect it and take care of it, they are big responsibilities and are often neglected, they have feelings too and I've seen many depressed birds that were left by their owners. People these days don't learn enough about birds before getting one, please don't be one of those people ;)

This is too true. I have two very happy budgies that have never said a word (not that I've given up!), but just across the street there's a family who keeps their parakeets in a cage on the front porch all day, every day. They never come out to socialise with or talk to the birds, and the birds are left out at night too. It's infuriating to see people stuff birds in cages and leave them there. You want a decorative pet? Get a fish. Birds are too smart to be neglected that way.

here is how my bird learnt it:

- he picks up what i say if i say it a lot (i thought i once heard a "thankyou)

- i say it to him when he is in a good mood (like making kissing noises)

it took about 3 weeks but now he is saying it really often!

Budgies are one of the easiest birds to take care of, and If you're so busy that you need to plop your budgie in front of a computer instead of actually training it yourself, then maybe you shouldn't have it in the first place.
