  • @ 03:02 we find another set of piston and connecting rod driving a smaller wheel located above the drivong wheels.but this is rotated in the opposite direction. will some ooty ite tell what is this ? i guess it has something to do with the rack or may be it adds tractive power to the main wheels . some one please clarify.

    TIA.

  • @oracle11iappsdba That one controls the opening and closing of the steam valves which drive the piston and thereby the driving wheels. In bigger locos the mechanism is directly connected to the driving wheels.

  • Wonderful. Thanks.

  • I think this steam loco is one of the strongest cog steam locos ever build by SLM. The DFB (steam Railway over the Pass of Furka in switzerland) is rebuilding a 0-8-0 loc from SLM that is similar to this engine and has run in vietnam (krong-pha da-lat)

  • Thanks for the video. The Indian govt. could contribute a bit more towards the upkeep of this heritage railway, especially the condition of the tracks don't look too good.

  • 1 in 12 gradient is an unbelievable climb consider many huge horse power Irish locomotives can hardly tackle the steepest gradient over here! And there diesel locomotives!

  • What do you mean?

    I don`t understand "1 in 12 gradient".

  • Yeah, over d'ere dey built em Reeaal gewd.

  • Hi RailwayFreak,

this is a rack-railway, so 1:12 is nothing special. And it's a wonderful loco with a great voice.
