Short version: Plant, Page and the members of The Who were out partying (this was before Led Zeppelin was created obviously) and when Page told Moon that he intended to make a massively successful band and tour the US he told him that that idea would go down like a lead zeppelin. Page liked it so much that he decided to use it as his band's name. There are details missing, but that's the gist of it.
@rubiconsedge It's only saying what a bunch of others have a said about a bunch of other bands and songs all over Youtube. Pull up any song by any artist someone will have made the same comment... "best band, best song...." It means nothing
@mrsgstd nah it does you misinterpreted his statement..most bands dont have a catalogue like led zeppelin does so to say one is the best when there is so many classic songs is a huge milestone and kashmir was zeppelins finest moment imop
@mrbyg97 Techincally, we are. We are continually moving forward in time, and we do in fact move around in space, not only on the earth but WITH the earth, since the earth itself is constantly moving through space.
Plant sounds better than in '77 Seattle where he sounded burned out...amazing after all he went through from then till 1980....and then, what the band had to face....
personally im happy they didnt make it to the 80s because then they woulda been making all thay synthy sounding hair metal shit and i personally think that would have ruined them
@NeutralSnap totally agree with u, first of all lennon went away in 80 ...so after that i dont think there was much hope ...was in class 2 or 3 in 80...but got introduced to zep only by 7th grade ....at first the music was literally creepy and scary ..(my seniors who were in 9 and 10 grade would play the scary vilolin-guitar part from the film song remains the same at nite in the dorm)....but after that there was was no turning back....EVER..
This was leading Led Zeppelin to a new direction, but if you notice, you could barely hear Jimmy playing. He was sooo smacked out and it is like they faded him out a little. Most of the gang agree that if Bonzo didn't die, Jimmy Page would have eventually from his addiction.Bonzo's death ultimately saved Page.
@VanHalenLedZeppelin7 Ahh cool! Yeah it was bugging me because I own the DVD, but could not figure out why he sounded dull. But when I listen to knebworth on the DVD, you can definitely hear Page. Maybe, it just is not mixed yet? Either way, I love hearing the recordings that we do not get to always hear.
@VanHalenLedZeppelin7 I sing, and thats what I do. I learn how to sing Zeppelin songs live. THat is also how I am learning to play drums. I love Led Zeppelin live.
If bonzo would not have died they would have made more superb music. It is a shame really that they were cut short. But all good things are cut short aren't they. The music today has no heart whatsoever. It makes me want to vomit. Hip hop and pop has ruined everything. They just put out crappy songs to make money which is proof the human race is at its worst as far as greed and selfishness.
This was plant's favorite song out of the bands songs. You could always tell because he always sang it suberbly. The greatest band ever by a long shot. Nothing will ever compare to these four musical geniuses.

I think the effects Zeppelin relied upon most of all was their talent. I did enjoy this version of Kashmir. A little different than were used to, but rockin just the same.
The trouble even with the soundboards can end up being how everything was wired in, source wise and what was in between. Doesn't always survive the tape so to speak and also doesn't always duplicate what the sound was like to the audience or even the band themselves during a concert.
studies show that 94% of kids prefere rap to any other music. if you're one of the awesome 6% that still loves to headbang copy and paste this to three pure rock videos
Yeah he did, from 1977 to 1980 he used a Yamaha GX-1 which he later sold to Keith Emerson sometime in the early 80's. Sounds shit here doesn't it, yet I've heard live versions where it sounds much better.
Check out the unLedded version of Kashmir which Page and Plant produced on the album: No Quarter. Its a different arrangement and quite good in my estimation. I also found compelling Kashmir performances with Lucia Micarelli/Ian Anderson and another version by a kids rock band called "Crunchy Frog". All performances mentioned are on YouTube and worth checking out. LedZep lives on!
God, I think the 80 leg was incredible. Almost like a renewal of the band. It would be great to see what they were going to record based on the new sound they had later in their career. Love it!
yeah i totally agree with you. zepp was heading in a new direction with In through the out door release. i could have only imagined what carouselambra would have sounded like "live". i think Roberts vocals were at his peak.Bonhams new metallic kit.Jonesy coming through as always and even though Jimmy was smacked out on heroin he was still one of the best guitarist around. i feel cheated not having them around for the 80's
in 79 or 80 page said him and bonzo were dicussing how the next record was going to be heavier, he said they wanted to get away from the keyboards and rock
But JPJ would be bigger maker in band, you can hear on ITTOD album, that JPJ's voice grew and grew. I think that Zeppelin would be something between Rush, Dream Theater, Yes and Black Sabbath.
Yeah i understand, but you know, as music style Led Zeppelin would have been something like progressive heavy rock, litle bit more metal than first two albums, but progressiver.dont know, poor Bonham :(
I heard Plants first & second solo albums would be a likely sound as to how Zep in the 80s would have sounded, I hear Page was working on "Burning Down One Side" before Zep disbanded.
Loved Plant's first few albums, but wasn't always thrilled with how they were mixed. Could sound a little muddy. I think Zep would have stuck by their tried and true method of clarity on all instruments all the way around, starting with Zep 1 which is as crisp and defined as you could ever ask for especially considering when it was recorded. Masterful job with few gadgets, unlike today with all the damn quantizing, and drum triggers and digital this and that and all the other associated horseshit
I think they sounded pretty good in terms of recording quality, many Zep albums were drenched a little in bass and other properties but basically were good enough by industry standard, Pink Floyd on the other hand, recorded during the same times, were grade-A-recordings in terms of detail, engineering, back to Robert, listen to the "Shaken & Stirred" still very clear in todays terms but it sure had some weird songs on there,,lol, I liked his old band better.
Dark Side? Yeah, may well be 'better' engineered, but for my $ and to my ears that album doesn't sound as good as Zep 1. But then again, I'm biased. And besides, I prefer Floyd's stuff done while Barrett was still in the group.
@EddieInvisibleMan great version of kashmir! i actually like the keyboard sound of the live versions. something very atmospheric, somber and melancholy about it. when i saw page/plant in 96', they replaced the middle part of "in the evening" with the middle part of "carouselambra" ,(when it breaks down into the "i couldn't stand it, another day" part). it was amazing. thanks for loading this kashmir version!
I love jpj's performance with the yamaha gx...
