  • oldskool dubsteb

  • Printers then: get the job done slow but surly

Printers now: BUY OUR INK NO MORE LEFT $40 A TWO PACK NOT ALIENED LOL

  • yeah.. the origin of dubsteb..

  • I miss the sound of these printers :-(

  • 20$ that the printer test page = fail

  • @SuperMuddiger You're watching the video, right? Test did not "fail".

  • A lot of businesses still use these printers. They can print carbon copy forms, you know where they print in triplicate. These are very useful in delivery and warehouse operations.

  • kinda sounds like a Skrillex mix

  • So, what kind of paper do you use and where can I buy it? (I know it's a dumb question but I still want to ask, anyway)

  • @VoulantisExperiments I got the fan-fold paper at Staples. They have a ton of stuff for the older legacy hardware. Including ribbons for these old printers.

  • I can't believe they still makes these.

  • The only reason this printer takes so long to print is because it doesn't impact on the return trip to it's home position. I had a Panasonic that printed on the trip out and on the trip back (talking about the impact head of course).

  • @coolgyger Yep, this printer only prints graphics in one direction. And since windows prints everything as graphics (from the printer's point of view) it takes longer. Now if I were to use text mode only, in windows, it would print in both directions.

  • Im studying for my A+ exam i needed too see a Dot-Matrix in action cuz i wasnt sure what it was thanks!

  • @187Kdogg You are quite welcome.

  • @kaiyoshi2243

Thanks someone actually gives a straight answer so many assholes on youtube these days "uhh youve never seen one of these, what were you born ona born" you know shit like that thanks again lol

  • THANKS FOR REMIND ME OF MY OLD PRINTER AND I LIKE THE DOT SOUND I STILL HAVE THE OLD DOT BUT IN MY ATTIC

  • this is my jam!! lol who knew a printer could make an awesome techno song ;P

  • I still remember tearing the side tabs.

  • Welcome to the matrix!

  • arnt u happy it no longer takes a day to print a report.... takes a sec

  • @dsbizz1 This is true. But if you look at cost, it's MUCH cheaper to print on this old printer. If I have the time. X)

  • @kaiyoshi2243 i still have paper like that and u can still buy some

  • where did you get that paper

  • @Maker5464 Got the paper at Staples. But they only have the huge 2500 count box. so it's like, $39.00.

  • Wow, nice sound...

    Sounds like a song ^^

  • I remember the days. They weighed a bloody ton from my recollection.

  • I heard pretty much every one of them on YouTube by now and this one sounds the most like the one we had, I think.

Lying in bed, supposedly sleep a long time, and my parents printing stuff up in the attic. I didn't like sleeping back then, I though of it as a waste of my time. Funny how stuff changes.

Got to love late '70's/80's gear. Hell, I'm '80's gear myself. They don't make 'm like that anymore.

  • Wow.

    nice.

It Plays some music While printing

  • The only reason it's running so slowly is because Windows sends data to these old printers in graphics mode. Inkjets and lasers are designed for this, Dot Matrix printers were originally designed for plain text. If you were to use the plain text driver with this printer, it'd do that page in ten seconds, you'd just not get the graphical Windows logo and it'd all be in one font. But that's how these printers worked originally.

  • @ShokaLion Y'know, I never thought about that, but you're right. Windows is always sending graphics to the printer, even if its text. I'll have to try putting it in generic text mode and see what happens.

    Thanks.

  • @kaiyoshi2243 Did I spy briefly the top corner of an IBM Model M keyboard there? Someone knows quality by the looks of things.

  • @ShokaLion You have a good eye. Yes, It is a Model M IBM PS/2 Keyboard. Best Keyboards ever made.

  • @kaiyoshi2243 Couldn't agree more. Acquired one myself a few weeks ago. In a dumpster, being rained on. Bit of cleaning and drying out, worked perfectly again.

  • Struggling to understand why I am fascinated by this video, kinda makes me feel warm inside!

  • i used this exact model with my amiga 500.

  • these sounds take me back to the early 90's XD

  • I hated these printers so much. Low dpi, slow as heck, and the little tabs on the side with the punched holes always got jammed somehow. Yet I'm so fond of this sound. It's one of the most relaxing sounds I know.

  • Sounds just like a daft punk song

  • wow! are they ever slow... I have used a panasonic KX-P2124... it is frol like 1992 and it still prints that test page faster... it looks bad though. Dot matrix printers are so easy to fix too!

  • Love that sound. Do you know where to by paper for these machines?

  • @YellowBigLemon I believe any office supply store sells the fan fold paper. I got this last box of paper from Office Depot.

  • @kaiyoshi2243 Ok thanks :D

  • I had one! ha ha ha I forgot how it sounded.

  • These old printers will outlast the internet

  • @Mentorcase True!

    I have a 1992 LJ4 still working today altough i got a DELL 1710n laser printer

  • Rave party. Yea.

  • it uses the serialport?

  • Nope, this one used the parallel port.

  • I love this song

  • Me too.

  • Am I weird for saying that this put a smile on my face and actually made me think that it's a CUTE printer xD haha

  • Not at all. I like this printer to.

  • Breath takeingly fast 1/4 page a minute. lol

i used to have one of these, never did have the right paper for it though, so would end up with pages comeing out at an angle. and the rush to stick another peice in once the first was about to finnish. wish i still had it though.

  • haha! Yeah lightening fast, eh? But super cheep to print with. I think it's something like 2,000 pages with a $3.00 ribbon cartridge. I still use this printer to print long documents.

  • I had a printer like this in 1990 lol...along with a Tandy computer....aaahh memories...

  • OMG that was te one i used for years!!

  • My middle school used to use these. Which is partly why I bought this printer. It's a very good printer and with print anything Windows sends to it. You just have to be patient. It's also TONS cheaper to print with this that it is to print with an inkjet or laser printer.

  • my ink never ran out, but what will you have to do these days to keep using those things when you do run out?

  • y'know, You can buy brand new ink ribbon cartridges. Just google your printer name and model number and Ink ribbon. You'd be surprised how many old printers are still supported.

  • I have the same printer it's not in one of my videos I have a lexmark x1270 inkjet and my epson dot matrix t 1000 also.

I got mine from my dad's work.

It's old but it does the job right.

I use my dot matrix more then my inkjet.

i HAVE TO GET A RIBBON FOR MINE SOON

  • They still sell new ribbons for these old printers, y'know. Just google it.

I use this printer a lot too. It's a great printer. I also use my Panasonic KX 2135 color dot matrix printer a lot to.
