First thing you need to do is reduce the production of acid in your stomach with a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), there are many OTC medications you can get like Prilosec or the generic omeprazole. Second thing is I recommend Gaviscon right before you go to bed to create a barrier to absorb the reflux. Changing your diet is also beneficial. All of these you can do immediately with little cost. Then look for ways to improve your sleeping such as the video recommends.
All of you, please ask your doctor to send you for a H-Pylori bacteria test. Most times it is positive. It is just a blood test. Also, if you are positive, ask them to prescribe 2 weeks on anti-biotics rather than 1 week. After completion, you need to look at your eating lifestyle and change it to CURE the disease. If you follow the doctor you will become dependent of strong antacids. Heal the problem with a change in your lifestyle. I cured myself.
look please give her a break this may actually help someone u know and I want one of them pillows :) just becuse she dont have a pro vid dont mean what she say aint true
I hate acid reflux. I hate it when you're out and know you shouldn't eat anymore but you feel rude. I hate it when I go out or to a party and have to explain why I can't drink. I hate how people don't believe me. :( Plus I'm pretty sure that it was caused by taking too much ibuprofen for headaches when I was younger and all I needed was allergy relief pills! It sucks!
@XinsidethefireX Too bad for them if they don't understand. If you watch what you eat and drink for a long time, you body will most likely heal itself, and you'll be able to eat "everything" again,"but" within reason. Just a little bit of everything won't hurt you, and it won't bring back those symptoms. Give it 3 or 4 months. No spicy foods. No cakes. No alcohol. No sweet chocolates. Dark might be ok. Try it. Drink lots and lots and lots of water. If it won't go down, put a little sugar in it.
@XinsidethefireX You can get cancer in your esophagus from constant hydrochloric acid burning. It eventually forms scar tissue if, at the least, not controlled.
but the best thing for acid reflux is watch "what" you eat, and drink, watch "how much" you eat and drink, and no eating late at night, at least 2 hours before bedtime.
you don't fix acid reflux with a pillow you greedy bitch

Poor posture and improper diet is now considered a culprit of GERD. Why not. Poor posture is physically compressing the digestive system. It is depression as well. Both the emotional and physical problems cause GERD. I've lengthened my spine and whole body. An offshoot to this is that my GERD has become nearly none existent. Also eat an apple each nite before bedtime.
@jay1wo It's not as quick and easy as you might think. Nissen can take quite some time, depending on the severity of the problem. It is also quite a risky op, some patients have a whole new set of problems after the fundo. It is a last resort.
hi everyone,my husband suffers from acid reflux really bad,our doctor, had him on all knids of pills like the ranitidine, metoclopamide, and omprazol, and nothing is working,he was treated for h plori, all went well, now it is back again,i am wondering about apple cider vinigar,or something, there is so much out there, but what in the heck works, when the meds stop, plus,no one likes to be on medication if they can help it, thanks, god bless all.
Here are some things that you can do to avoid acid reflux. First don't eat too much specially right before bed, don't sleep laying down, buy a pH balance test to test the acid in your stomach, do not not but do not eat food with preservatives or additives specially if they contain a lot sodium it will burn a hole in your stomach, eat fresh vegetables and fruits and loose a lot of weight. Problem solved
Have you ever tried " Danactive" ? It's a probiotic drink found in most grocery stores. I had acid reflux for 20 years. I was on every brand you can think of... I'm not kidding, Danactive works better than the pills. Take care !

Just put some wood blocks under the front legs of your bed. That way you can still sleep on your side and it doesn't cost anythng.

Just get the Nissen fundoplication. It is quick and easy. It cures over 90% of the problems. Ask your doctor.

@jay1wo until you can't burp (therefore can't eat anything that causes stomach gas) or have to induce vomiting for any reason.

so Danactive can physically alter the anatomy and reduce elasticity of the esophageal sphincter? permanently?
if acid is neutralized, there are other gastric fluids going into esophagus that should not be there.
