  • Hi I am planning to play this piece with my quartet. May I know how and where u got the score and the prerecorded tape from ? do you have to pay copyright to play this piece ?

  • @fendweller is that sarcasm?

  • @fendweller. WTF?

  • lol wat a failed song

  • @crisiethesissy sorry-Justin Bieber is throwing up at the moment. lol!

  • Do you not have part two? Or am I just not seeing it.

  • thanks! i also consider music is freedom)))

  • wow! Are you seriously suggesting that a musician can't play something the way they want to? You may not like it but music is freedom and you can't take that away from the musician. Mashenja, if you want to use vibrato, use it to your hearts content!

  • Why do people talk during concerts?

  • @fendweller Eh?

  • awesome

  • i love how on the record's liner notes they explained that the "crack train from new york" was not a train with crack on it

  • on different recs of Reich his music is played differently

probably next time we will do as you advice!

    thanks)

  • For the longest time I have this idea of recording people and playing their intonation on my Clarinet. I see someone has already thought of this...

  • so this is a LIVE performance of the first movement...

How does everyone keep in sync with the recorded voice and steam whistle samples? Is there some sort of backing track with the samples or is someone playing the samples directly during the piece?

    Not criticising, just curious...

  • Part of the tape is 2 other pre-recorded string quartet parts, which they use to keep time. There is no click track and they are specifically instructed NOT to use headphones.

  • Im second violin here

    why shouldnt i use it?

im doing it with cresc for making sound stronger

  • but with this particular piece, you are imitating train whistles. There's no vibrato in a train whistle. Reich very rarely uses vibrato in his music. Its what gives his music that unique sound.

  • why is the 2nd violin using vibrato???

  • if i could play any of these instruments steve reich and phil glass are all i would play. only slight exaggeration.

  • lol what are they saying?

  • from chicago to new york is the first one. The music played by the instruments is transcribed from the pitch of the recorded voices. All the speech is from recorded conversations between steve reich and various ppl

  • thx

  • my favourite movement.. would love to play this piece one day..

  • thank you friends!!

  • @Mashenja stfu

  • Very well played I just love this piece!

  • very nice recording.
