  • you know these guys[MONKEES] all took criticism for not playing on their records but they paid their dues later in life and turned out TO BE GREAT ENTERTAINERS ..LATER PEOPLE FOUND NONE OFTHE BANDS INCLUDING THE beatles PLaYED ON THEIR RECORDS EITHER ..SESSIONS COST TOO MUCH to gamble on take after take ...by the way Michael Nesmith was well off anyway ..his mother made millions selling out her LIQUID PAPER invention

  • @mlkemper The Beatles did play on their records, with the exception of a cameo by Eric Clapton, and Billy Preston's keyboards during the "Let it Be" session, plus the use brass and orchestral "sweetening". Two notable bands that heavily used session players were the Byrds and of course, The Beach Boys.

  • @mlkemper ......take it easy,lol.....i love nez and the monkees but to say the beatles didnt play on some of their records is absurd... other than the alan white take of love me do with him on drums, its all them ,with a few guests along the way.............unbeleivable

  • @ChernobylF: Rio and Joanne are wonderful tunes. Get over the Monkees past and accept this for what it is... Wonderful.

  • I'll put "Propinquity" or "Joanne" up against anything Mac Davis ever wrote any day of the week.

  • Stick with the movies, Mike. While smooth, the song's hooks are...ineffective. You might revisit the master songwriters, Mac Davis, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Glenn Campbell, Glen Frey and Kris Kristoffersen.

Sinatra notwithstanding, there's not much to be said for "I did it my own self."

  • @1footonthedawn - You mean you never heard of the Monkees, or MTV, or his mom and Liquid Paper (White Out)?

  • Wow, really good! Looked him up on Wikipedia and the photo they have up just doesn't look like him at all. Loved ELEPHANT PARTS. Now I know there is a lot more I didn't know about him and a lot more to his music, too!

  • can anyone send me the guitar cords, great song, great artist

  • As a Pedal Steel player this was one of my favorites from Austin City Limits.

The iTunes store is chock full of Red Rhodes

  • Excellent! I missed this when it aired, so thanks much for sharing it! Great quality! Can't help but use exclamation marks when I write about this great Nez performance!

  • Thank you ss73ss for the upload, what a band! I for one will never get enough of Papa Nes, O.J. Red Rhodes,et al! John Jorgenson is an unbelievable picker and I did not realize what a sweet back-up vocalist he also was! And Joe Chemay is a fair country bassist who sings like a big old By God bird! This is just too DAMOFINO FINE! Thanks to: You Tube(The Mother Ship Of Us All) ss73ss for the time and energy spent to share this too good clip, and to Michael Nesmith for being Michael Nesmith! ROS!!!

  • Thanks for posting this. Never saw him do this song live before. Nice! ; )

  • That was great. Do you have anymore? Thanks for uploading this one.

  • This performance is not from 'Live at the Britt', it's from PBS' Austin City Limits.

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting another rare Nez treat!

    Keep 'em coming!

  • Great! This is from "Live at the Britt" festival, 1992.
