  • They weren't allowed to say “ass” on TV back then (4:29), were they?

  • CNR is so cute here <3

  • I love these two so much. to see them both in one clip was a great find

  • It's true that in the show's later years, Lucy did rely on cue cards. With her increased responsibilities as a producer and owner of Desilu, it meant less time to memorize lines.

  • The big magnifying glass bit is great. =D

  • "you bet your sweet" -- *ding!*

  • funny

  • Man, it looks as if Elroy P. Clunk really FLUNKED this time! LOL!

  • what!? How can you guys say she's reading cue cards? That's ridiculous. Anyone in his right mind would see in pure logic that she can't possibly read anything the way her eyes are shifting focus. If so she's a mighty fast reader. Give the woman the credit she deserves! She never had to do a retake on ILL. Top that. And she was always more prepared and rehearsed than anyone. Lucy's the best and always will be ♥

  • Desi Arnaz's book, "A Book" chronicles all the shows Desilu was in charge of in 1960. there must have been twenty. later years there would be countless others and Desi and her were divorced so she was in charge of the whole company. she had probably no time

  • Charles Nelson Reilly was so funny. Even the _________ were laughing!

  • @streetcarjay Hehe :D I found him to be adorable!

  • LOVE Charles in this - so funny!

  • first off, I can relate - or anyone can, even today...no, here she was not reading off cue cards. She did later in her career in 'Here's Lucy' days.

  • This IS Here's Lucy.

  • I read all the comments and I decided to finally set the record straight. The reason is read from cue cards was because she was doing two jobs at once. She was one a perfomer and two the head of her company. With her being the head of her company, she didn't have time to memorize scripts, so she had to have them on cue cards. That was I read from another website. I hope that helps.

  • as an actor and having read from MANY cue cards that is indeed what she was doing. it is annoying but also she is still funny.

  • You're absolutely correct. What irks me about people criticizing this 59 year-old for reading cue cards is that she is doing this after having memorized and then erased 179 I Love Lucys, plus countless other scripts prior to this era of her career... which is a remarkable accomplishment for any actor.

  • I wish I had that many scripts to memorize... I think I'm at like 12 or 13 now.

  • @ohbutyes I just LOVE the comedy timing of these two! It is hilarious! One of the rare times that Lucy played the straight man against anyone. It was absolutely masterful!

  • Cue cards or not, Lucy can do no wrong in my book. The hours upon hours of joy she has brought to this world more than make up for any shortcomings. Charles Nelson Reilly was hilarious in this clip, as well!

  • no way she was looking at cue cards her eyes were not even focused in one place long enough to possibly even read any writing that was just how she was reacting to the dude.

  • It was fun, but her constantly noticeable glancing directly from cue cards every few lines or words gets really annoying and feels like it's drawing away from her connection with the dialogue and action. I wish they'd hidden them all on her!

  • LOL! I've noticed before that Lucy did that quite often & it was annoying!

  • I don't believe that is what she is doing just for the fact that I have read everything about her and all of her costars said she was Over prepared, knew hers lines plus theirs and didn't like it when someone came to work unprepared. Love Lucy.

  • does anyone remember Arnie a show where Nelson Reilly was a chef!!!???

It was the most funny series I've ever seen with Reilly. Show had a very short run.

  • Nice to see CNR acting as opposed to just on Match Game!

  • @ladycrim He (CNR) was in OTHER game shows, like "$10,000 Pyramid", "Password Plus", "Super Password", "I've Got a Secret", "All-Star Blitz", "Hollywood Squares", and hosted "Sweethearts".

  • @Rlotpir1972 you proved my point that he did a lot of game show panels. Therefore, it's nice to see him ACTING.

  • That was funny, if your still out there Charles, Hats off to you and I don;t mean lidsville lol

  • CNR passed 5/25/07. :-(

  • Two absolute greats with perfect comedic timing.

  • Absolutely hilarious. :)

  • Lucy didn't get to play the straight man very often.

  • No, she didn't, but it was utterly insane!

  • He's got a great chuckle.

  • Classic comedy

  • Two great comedians I miss so very much. Excellent scene :-)

  • he's trey fabulous here!
