Nice stuff-it's great that you're showing chains of attacks and sweeps instead of one technique. It's rare that the first thing you go for is going to work. A layman can sense old-school coming even, usu., then if you go right into ele. chair, they forget their leaving themselves open to getting right back into the guard.
We can't really see the FootWork Because of positioning you should show moves from front AND from the other side but really good sweep did it at training no one did know some of them :D
I always smile and laugh when I have to tap because it excites me that I have something to go home and work on for the next day of class. I look at it as a learning experience every time
until this videos my only half gaurd escape i could even attempt would be to open my gaurd and try to use underhooks to swing out when my oppenents tried to pass to mount or side, but my ears are swollen from trying to do that when people have me in headlocks from half guard, maybe this will help out my poor poor ears lol
@TechniquePrevails Definitely. I have a bruise on my throat from a rear-naked choke right now, and that's no fun either. About to check out the website.
@Phishstrangler And then he moves on to the next sweep and explained how to do that sweep. *partner lifts his arm so you can see* am i doing it right?
You know, it's really nice tutorial, but propably somewhere on the 10th Planet Eddie Bravo is quite pissed off - 90% of this comes from his books and dvds :P But it's still nice work, I'm waiting for next episodes.
@fbgeorgiew Not sure why Eddie Bravo would be pissed off at this... I think Eddie's half-guard work is the most incredible part of the entire 10PJJ system.
I think Eddie is well aware that I think he's a grappling genius!
@fbgeorgiew I think eddie would be mad if you stole one of his riffs, but I don't think you can be mad over using a system. He beleives in the ether, He would be a hippocrite if he were mad. thats like a historian being mad because someone agrees with his thesis. I meant riff as in music by the way as he's a guitarist.
Dude you are a bad man. Thank you for the technique It will definetly come in handy; that grape vine hook is mean. You explain everything very well, I understood it perfectly.
I don't really know (or like) Jiu Jitsu because I'm a "stand-up" guy (or boxer), but I think this is some good in-depth and technical instruction. You should do some instructional videos for increasing flexibility. That would make me more apt to practice since I'm so stiff....Good stuff none the less.
@TechniquePrevails i wouldn't say hes completely off, I go to probably the best BJJ school in the boston area and most of the guys there don't have a lot of respect for 10th planet, not saying its bad but it is definitely not better than gracie barra
@Arcturistheballer I agree that Gracie Barra has a phenomenal system. I love rolling with their guys. They are always top-knotch. But instead of me trying to argue "who would beat who up" between Gracie-Barra and 10PJJ, I simply suggest that people take what works for them and leave what doesn't.
Thanks for posting this up my brother... studying and practicing this sweep chain has added quite a bit more confidence to my repertoire when attacking from half guard... I train in GI and to answer a question posted earlier?... Yes this sweep chain works with GI as well....
Thanks for posting this up my brother... studying and practicing this sweep chain has added quite a bit more confidence to my repertoire attacking from half guard
@EzMac1337 A lot of it is from Eddie's system... As I've said on numerous occasions, I think Eddie's half-guard game is the most effective part of the 10PJJ system (for me, at least). However- Eddie doesn't really include the Master Blaster set up, the X-Guard set up, and quite a few other options.
Thanks for watching, though- and please check out the site.
@TechniquePrevails could i ask, which of these moves work best against VERY large opponents. i was recently in a grappling tournament and took second, the winner was just SO big. he was 310 6ft and all upper body with 6yrs of wrestling, and he was crushing me so much i couldnt use half of my techs because he was just too big, if i relaxed i couldnt breath, and i couldnt create any space. any suggestions?
@ayotechie I don't mess around with the gi very much- so I'm not sure... I would say yes, but I'm sure there are more chokes that you are open to when you start some of the chains.
In other words- I would think that they'd be very effective, but check for counters with someone who has more of a BJJ background focusing on gi work.
@sacredrage I train at a few gyms... I don't actually own a gym- but train at Top of the Line Fitness in Lawrenceville, GA; Milledgeville Academy of Mixed Martial Arts in Milledgeville; and Georgia Fight Club in Loganville. I highly suggest all of them.
@jackandcoke02 push the opponents head until you can claim underhook with near arm, get to side, escape hips out about a foot and you have created space for hook to come in.
@msyms11 if you fail with whip up but half underhook just go the other way with a basic half guard sweep since usually this is due to someone A. having good base, or B. posting with far arm. basically they have commited all their base and strength to being moved one way, rendering them more easily and likely to be swept the other way, but this has to be quick, and its a feel thing, take to long to work it in and you will telegraph your move, fake it sometimes just to claim sweep.
You guys are the best, i only have one question about this whip up. Whenever i am rolling a guy who is a bit bigger than me i find that i cant bump him at all to get to the old school, is there anything i can do ?
This guys a great instructer!! Thanks for making things clear and easy!! I really like that you teach ppl how to defend themselves for free, anywhere else is so expensive.... Learn, practice lots and pay it forward:)

Man this has been friggin awesome for me at training. This is really great stuff. Have had a few Blue Belts scratching their heads as they have usually been tying me up with the half guard. great Work
This is such a great video. I just had one point of confusion. In your set up to transition to X-guard and then sweep you say plant your left leg, but in the video it looks like you plant your right leg, but it's still difficult to see because the camera angle. Can you please clarify?
Any good ideas how to deal with opponents arm against your head when u are going for electric chair after he has sprawled his leg. (In this case the left arm of the guy with the white shirt, he isnt blocking your head tho in this demonstration)
I'm not sure exactly what you need. If you don't mind, please ask this question in the MMA Discussion Board at our site and I'll be glad to help you out.
