what a divvy comment comment foreman just made he said the most important person in the ring besides the fighter is the referee ! who else is the ring fuckin pablo escobar lol
The only thing that makes me think Larry Merchant doesn't know much about boxing is the multiple ignorant things he says. And its not that he gets a round or two wrong, because he does that often, but the comments he says when someone is blatantly winning and he says the other guy is either winning or is not hurt. It just makes me want to SMH -_-
@Kibukaa ............o_O if u were smart enough you'd knew that my comment was linked with the description. I just laughed at the description that wxc85 posted.....
My first time watching this fight in many years, and I have to be honest. It looks like Nady hampered Ruiz's ability to use his physicality with all of the unnecessary warnings in the first round. Ruiz went low unintentionally once, but other than that, he was trying to fight on the inside, and wasn't doing his typical jab-and-grab.
Just like with Floyd Mayweather fights, Marry Merchant doesn't open his mouth until he has something negative to say about the black fighter. Racist bastard and a senile, worthless commentator.
1:50 "this night, the referee is going to be the most important man in the ring, other than the fighters" i didn't know there were invisible people in the ring.
Dam that white fuck ref is pissing me off, he shouldn't be such an asshole to the fighters. If he sees some hits below the belt take points off that easy no need to be a dick to the fighter. He possibly compromised Ruiz's mentality cause now he worrying about what a dick the ref is to him and now can't focus on destoying the other guy, which means a boring fight. Since he will be focused on where not to hit instead of hitting Roy. Bottomline is the ref is such a fucking asshole!
@MortalSyntax i know glass jaw my ass, he had a good chin it was just that when he dropped from heavey weight to light heavy weight it killed his body and damaged him
The refferee is going to be the most important man in the ring other than the fighters...who eles is left in the ring?! probably one of the dumbest things ive heard
Jones should have retired after this fight.Or right after he beat Tarver the 1st time they fought because had nothing left to prove after that.He peaked against Ruiz than he declined so rapidly. It's odd how he always said he would get out of boxing before he got hurt and end up a beat up fighter like Ali but he's headed that way by fighting far longer than he should have.
Notice also Jones willingness to exchange, his ability to resist pressure, confidence, and resilliance. 4:09 That was Jones before he moved back down to fight Tarver. Boxers would try to pressure Jones and he was able to handle it and make fighters pay for it, with those super fast, powerful hands. After this fight, when he experienced 'dangerous pressure', he couldn't handle it. Product of that weight loss and loss of confidence. Jones was great at one time.
Notice that Roy got wobbled by a Ruiz right at 4:09. Thought Jones got wobbled, his recovery time was fairly quick. After this fight if he got wobbled, he was shift to a complete crisis where he was on the edge of going down or actually would go down. The weight loss amplified an average chin, making Jones look worse then he really was, in my opinion. I hope this version of Jones is remembered. In his prime he was excellent.
Roy Jones should have either retired or stayed at HW after this fight. He just 'lost it' after this fought. Not only the tangible side physically, but also the intangibles of his confidence. It's to bad. If he retires RJ would have been remembered as a top-5 or top 10 fighter of all-time. No he is remembered as more of a top 50, which is still good. He post-Ruiz career was obscured by the weight loss.
in my opinion jones should have retired ontop after this fight, moving up and down in weight killed his career, he was never the same after this fight
@kiely456 or just stay above 180 i think he could have been a competitive in heavyweight where there were some names but he coulda been dominant in crusierweight but there was no money there all the big fights were in 175...he shoulda have just stayed at 175 and never moved up....there was b hop and tarver and then later the people were seeing now chad dawson adamek when he was 175 jean pascal cloud....he fucked up but he is the greatest.... a middleweight with a heavyweight championship
@kiely456 i guess he loved boxing too much as he raps in his songs... but he is still a champion for us for making all the great boxers look like idiots in the ring when he was beatin them down.
@kiely456 Losing 25 pounds of muscle is absurd. Really stupid idea by Roy to go back to light heavy. Nobody can lose that much muscle mass and still perform there's no way.
@kiely456 You said it perfectly. I think it's a little sad that Jone's career declined after this, and that an all time great boxer's career was in the end sacrificed for this guy.
@ VajNengYang...your are a fuckin idiot to say jones made u like boxing in mayweather made u appreciate boxing u idoit jones will always be better then some mayweather u must be a dick
Ruiz fought a mind meltingly dumb fight here. Reminds me of Hagler against Leonard going out to prove he can box with the boxer.....at least Hagler had the talent to come close.
Roy jones jr was never a realli heavyweight he was mostly a middleweight and light heavyweight he clearly knew he didnt stand a chance of defending his title, they were too many good fighters, to be honest i think he shud have moved up the heavyweight division a few years back in 2007 or 2006 but anyways he did make history ill give that to man how many middleweights do you become heavyweights not alot
Blame Roy Jones Jr daddy to talking his son out of the heavy weight division. :-( Jones could of had a decent heavy weight career. He didn't have the speed to stay fighting in the light heavy weight division.
I'm not talking about his early career. If you look at RJs record he put on A LOT of weight to fight John Ruiz and then drop to 176 to fight Tarver. If u look @ da bio of RJ his pops talked him out of stayin a hw... bad move, RJ had problems with Tarver when he beat him the first time, then got ko the 2nd time and then got ok'd again after da by Glen Johnson. Since beating Ruiz for the HW belt RJs is 6-6 lost 3 by KO. He didn't have the speed shoudl of stayed hw
Yes. I'm still amazed Roy Jones won the hw belt. He naturally stays around 170-80. And to blow up to 226lb and then 8 MONTHS later come back down to 175 and go 12 rounds with Tarver and win is really amazing. But there's a cost to putting your body through that type of diet. If RJ stayed hw he would have James Toney's belt right now.
@chillyayo09 if he stayed hw mayb he coulda fought tyson...but shit...i thoght he went up to 199 for this fight?..not all the way up to 226...n i agree wit u...losin all that muscle mass in that short amount of time killed his body...n u can tell he wasnt the same fighter after
@chillyayo09 Jones made a mistake moving up to Heavyweight just to fight Ruiz. He should have stayed at 168-175 and fought and dominated CALZAGHE, Tarver, DAWSON, Johnson. Moving UP and DOWN killed his career.
Jones had no future at Heavyweight...after the Ruiz fight who would he had fought? He would not be fight the KINGs of the division the KLITS Brothers.
@chillyayo09 and where is Toney today? Getting ready to fight in the UFC. Unless you fight and beat Haye or the Klits you have accomplish nothing at Heavyweight...
Jones was too famous and popular to be at Heavyweight and duck either of those guys. TONEY could do it because he was never very popular and most boxing fans knew he was at Heavyweight because he was a fat tube of goo...
well the thing we need to understand, is that john ruiz made a career out of holding his opponents. So i can understand the ref doing what he did to a degree. And Ruiz's trainer is a fucking idiot, he complains regardless, remember his fight against Golota at MSG.
Roy Jones was truly great. Unfortuanetly a large part of his success in boxing was tied to his unbelievaly quick reflexes. Once those reflexes were gone so was his success. It would be nice if Roy would commetate all the time and not fight anymore

poor referreeing....the ref pulled ruiz about 5 times before a minute had passed. He should have deducted him a point if he was doing anything wrong...the fact is he wasn't! watch the replay
Agreed. Terrible refereeing. Ruiz obviously wanted to force Jones back and outmuscle him in close, and the referee basically stopped him from doing that by repeatedly stepping in. There's a difference between a dirty fighter and a physical fighter, but that was completely lost on this stupid referee. Not that Ruiz would have won with a different ref, of course...but bad ref'ing always irritates me.
@garethac81 it makes a massive difference for sure..
As you say, ruiz probably would've got beat anyhow...but the ricky hatton v mayweather fight could have been quite different for example...i'm not a fan of hatton or mayweathers style..btw.. and really you should have tactics you can switch to if the ref is a particular type..but its annoying to see a fighters style stunted..its basically nullifying their strengths...making a win something of a miracle.
His swinging left hand around his waist... Is it just a lack of technique or his own and special style? It makes me laugh and marvel at the same time ^^
Roy small as hell in this fight. He should of stayed normal weight he would of dominated probaly till year ago or two. But can tell he gets stuned bit here and scared. Thats alot of weight to give up.
and people say jones has a weak chin, he took some decent shots in this fight. Shame to see such a talent go, he should have retired a long time ago. His awkward fighting style relied solely on his reflexes and speed... sadly they are the first thing to go with age, first thing i noticed in most of jones recent fights is he actually uses his jab quite alot. He needs to retire and keep his place as one the greatest
Roy went all hood on him at the end of the 1st. He dropped his hands and started bouncing a little then let them thangs go. RJ stopped boxing and started fightin.
cause hes lost some speed and reflexes so he cant get away with what he used to. he has to set up his punches now and be more tacticly sound. thats my opinion.
At the weigh in it said 193 but on a documentary roy got in from the weigh in and weighed himself again coz he didnt believe he was 193 and he was 199! And he didnt mind he saw it as working in his favour lol!
that was funny "tonight the referee is gonna be the most important person in the ring, except for the fighters". so who else is in the ring george?? hahaha
The only fight that matters for Roy now is the Hopkins fight if he can pull it off he will shock the world. But If he loses ppl will say Hop beat a shot Jones and if Roy wins ppl will say Jones beat a 45 year old man. The fight for retirement If roy loses no question retire. If Hop loses then everything that he did will be tarnished with Roy beating him twice. Don't go off of the Green fight because the only thing it showed was Roy's timing was off when he threw the hook and got caught.
To be honest he doesn't. He was so fast that he used a leaping left hook instead but in this fight he did probably because it wouldn't have have been a good idea to throw leaping left hooks because he could've gotten caught with something.
I've seen most of his fights and he's my favorite fighter. I'm talking about when he was young and in his prime, he was so fast and good that he didn't need to use his jab. A great example is when he fought James Toney, all he threw there were hooks. And the Danny Green fight doesn't really count because it only lasted about 2 min and for like the last minute all he did was cover up.
are you stupid man ? Going up in weight class like roy did was good but go back aint no good.. roy jones prime was years ago he was fighting really bad against danny green.... roy jones was the best in hes prime , now he aint..
@hinduw Thats becuase jabbing is something you would expect from a good boxer. But Roy is so unorthadox he already hasa different way to set up his punches. he wont jab jab cross. hell like jab uppercut hook jab Lol
i swear larry merchant makes me want to puke...

and people say jones has a weak chin, he took some decent shots in this fight. Shame to see such a talent go, he should have retired a long time ago. His awkward fighting style relied solely on his reflexes and speed... sadly they are the first thing to go with age, first thing i noticed in most of jones recent fights is he actually uses his jab quite alot. He needs to retire and keep his place as one the greatest
reeveman 1 year ago
@reeveman
i know, completely agree, even duran got k.o'ed after dropping weight
jones got hit with decent shots, not a lot, but he was never even wobbled in the slightest until after this
some people act like a natural junior middleweight getting k.o.ed at light heavy at 35 years after 15 years old proves anything
if you pay attention to details you can see jones legs are starting to go in this fight which is how he got caught later

Roy went all hood on him at the end of the 1st. He dropped his hands and started bouncing a little then let them thangs go. RJ stopped boxing and started fightin.

Roy is Much Better !!!!!!!
TheKomando1 2 years ago
that was so true! dammit!
Roy in his prime was NOT into jabs much, but lately that's what we see, I wonder why?!
Pickupgurubudu 2 years ago
cause hes lost some speed and reflexes so he cant get away with what he used to. he has to set up his punches now and be more tacticly sound. thats my opinion.
tupacalypse88 2 years ago
@tupacalypse88 its a very good one

the referee seems to do too much noise, annoying
Pickupgurubudu 2 years ago
damn he really looks like a heavyweight. I believe he's 193 lbs in this fight. Ruiz is 226. Rd. 2 is just a clinic!!
rolfsrensen 2 years ago
At the weigh in it said 193 but on a documentary roy got in from the weigh in and weighed himself again coz he didnt believe he was 193 and he was 199! And he didnt mind he saw it as working in his favour lol!
Jbizzle390 2 years ago
that was funny "tonight the referee is gonna be the most important person in the ring, except for the fighters". so who else is in the ring george?? hahaha

Jay Nady...The biggest douche in boxing
jason2156 2 years ago 9
The only fight that matters for Roy now is the Hopkins fight if he can pull it off he will shock the world. But If he loses ppl will say Hop beat a shot Jones and if Roy wins ppl will say Jones beat a 45 year old man. The fight for retirement If roy loses no question retire. If Hop loses then everything that he did will be tarnished with Roy beating him twice. Don't go off of the Green fight because the only thing it showed was Roy's timing was off when he threw the hook and got caught.
richieray04 2 years ago
i couldnt agree more richieray, u can't win when there's different people supporting different fighters.

If Ruiz moved his hands as much as his jerkoff trainer moves his mouth he probably wouldn't be such a bum.

i get so sick of these guys saying "jones doesnt use his jab much"..seems they say it in every fight.
hinduw 2 years ago 18
To be honest he doesn't. He was so fast that he used a leaping left hook instead but in this fight he did probably because it wouldn't have have been a good idea to throw leaping left hooks because he could've gotten caught with something.
userho 2 years ago
you really dont watch a lot of roy do ya :/
look at the danny green fight for example..all he threw where jabs.
hinduw 2 years ago
I've seen most of his fights and he's my favorite fighter. I'm talking about when he was young and in his prime, he was so fast and good that he didn't need to use his jab. A great example is when he fought James Toney, all he threw there were hooks. And the Danny Green fight doesn't really count because it only lasted about 2 min and for like the last minute all he did was cover up.
userho 2 years ago
are you stupid man ? Going up in weight class like roy did was good but go back aint no good.. roy jones prime was years ago he was fighting really bad against danny green.... roy jones was the best in hes prime , now he aint..
RussellTyroneJones 2 years ago
roy started off good against danny, but he just got caught once and thats all it took
TPena92 2 years ago
@hinduw
he just uses it to measure distance, he doesnt really throw it as a punch
KAKINO0202 2 years ago
@hinduw
Each punch that he threw was just as fast so he didn't need the jab.
ESSENCEOFEACHTHING 1 year ago
@hinduw He didnt need to use his jab. He just used leaping hooks and big right hands lol
Kirkdabossplaya 1 year ago
@Kirkdabossplaya hehe but his jab was a thing of beauty!
hinduw 1 year ago
@hinduw Thats becuase jabbing is something you would expect from a good boxer. But Roy is so unorthadox he already hasa different way to set up his punches. he wont jab jab cross. hell like jab uppercut hook jab Lol
TreatedYoDumbAss 1 year ago
You'd think that with all that money that Ruiz has made over the years, he'd be able to afford dentures for Norman Stone.

jcpnw 2 years ago
Nady was a borderline disgrace in that first round, did all he possibly could for Jones short of rabbit punching Ruiz in the clinches himself
huthut91 2 years ago 2
one of the classic foremanisms there -
'tonight the referee is going to be the most important man in the ring other than the two fighters'
I really miss those razor sharp insights.

Umm, that has happened already. You lame!
