What kind of ink do you use to stamp on the tissue paper? Or does it matter?

That shouldn't matter. If you use pigment ink, make sure it's dry before you go on so it doesn't smear while you place it on the candle.

Since paper is so flammable, can you actually burn this candle or would it have to be strictly decorative?

Yes you can! You will have to print your photograph on tissue paper first though. The kind of tissue paper you add to presents, not the one for the nose.

I don't think a hairdryer will have enough concentrated heat. It spreads the heat out more then the heat gun. But you could try. I have never used a hair dryer for this.

Why not stamp right on the candle?

Stamping directly on the candle is difficult. First you would have to find the right ink, second the candle doesn't have a flat surface and it would be hard to get a perfect impression.

This is easier.
