  • is that a tama superstar is scarlet fade? looks like it hahaha

  • You're great, thank you!

  • nice tutorial, thanks for the help

but seriously, sort that snare out lol

  • your snare sucks!!!!!

  • woo haha

  • amen

  • some people like a trashy snare

  • Thank you :)

  • Comment removed

  • wtf? hah

  • wtf and HOW do you do that?

  • get a drum stick in your hand at hit the bass drum

  • Well then why ask? >:|

  • very good

  • u need moon gells 4 for 1o bucks that will fix it

  • those arent even triplets hes playing

  • lol you have a shit snare

  • hands syncing with feet isn't a desired goal It's seperation and independance that is sought after. I think most players problem is that they can;t seperate their feet and their hands.

  • Just because it's a group of three notes, does NOT make it a triplet!

  • This is great for getting your hands to sync with your feet. Some good advice here!

  • snare sounds like shit!!!!!!!!

  • I dont care for the sound either ha ha

  • lol everyone has their own snare drum preferences

  • his snare isnt our of tune probably its just the sound coz it was such a loud noice going into a tiny microphone.

  • terrible sound =/

  • idont know if its the snare tuning but i dont like it when ppl hit the snare with both hands at the same time i prefer flams, sorry im being picky

    good ideas tho =D

  • Your snare is so far out of tune its not even funny! it sounds horrible!

  • suck a dick you musical snob

  • EXCELLENT! I LOVED IT!

  • ha ha omg, everyone who actually plays drums, trust me guys u really dont need any of this! i play guitar, i only get to play drums like for an hour once every 2 months, but i already knew all of this stuff from just listening to metal songs so much! so what starclassicgirl should be worried about is actually trying to do the bass between it in the fills! trust me its east just try it for about 10 minutes and always start slow

  • first of all... kudos for fuckin Metal!!!

but I, though being a metalhead drummer, have to disagree with you...

just my opinion but i think learning all different ways can only benefit you and can also give you a slight to profound difference in the level of expression and creativity you have.

cuz i dunno about you guitarists but i HOPE when you look for a drummer you look for one with a lot of different skills! =P

    peace and keep it Metal

  • good, but not teaching so good :) but ok

  • use an oval ring

  • muffle, anyone?

  • cool

  • dampen the snare drum!

  • i think it sounds pretty cool

  • just bad

  • the dance of eternety bit is wrongggg

  • FYI: Buddy Rich, couldn't tell you anything about Moeller, paradidles or any type of 'formal' technique and he managed to be one of the best drummers in the world. Moral of the story, do what ever works best for you.

  • FYI, Buddy Rich was a rudimental prodigy.

  • man i didnt like your technique... you should practise some moeller...

  • I agree. & Your double bass pedal (in my opinion) is way too loose.

  • i liked the advice

  • yeah i would say the snare sounds poorly adjuisted and the toms are a bit dry sounding.. i guess a little more tension on the resonant heads ;)

    but stll, awesome advices!

  • you really shouldn't tense up your arms or wrists so much when playing the smaller subdivisions. those 32nd notes could be a lot cleaner if you relaxed a bit, and spent some more time building up your hands.

  • dude that snare sounds very bad

  • quick question, when i do a straight double bass i do it with my heels up but when i just want to play like just a couple of hits on the bass drum (usually two or three) i play heel down ans i can play it alot quicker and with equal intervals between each hit, do you reccomend that i get used to using one kind of technique or is what im doing fine? i ussually metal and hard rock if that helps answering my question, thnx

  • asshole

  • Honestly, whatever works for you is what's best. I find I use heel up mostly, but I vary how much my legs and/or ankles do depending on if I'm doing quick bursts or extended double bass patterns.

  • thnx

  • People say they like ur snare! sorry bro but i dont, i more like a sharp suttle tone, with no ring!! also yea do wat other guys tell u to do, muffle ur bass a bit more plz!! im not critisisin u!! i just prefer my drums slightly different!! although i like the way ur toms sound, and ur china!

  • overtones bro :)

  • BATMAN TOM ANGLES!!!!!!!!

  • Good job, your experience shows.

  • check out my playing on my profile also access to my myspace

  • Hectic drumming dude!

  • Portnoy rocks!!!!!!!!!

  • lol, ok preston lacey

  • Hey and a video camera's sound doesn't do his drums justice either because video camera mic' aren't that good anyways, so I'm sure they would sound better in person.

  • nice advice.

  • Your snare drum needs muffling.

  • he needs to tune his snare drum, and maybe put some dampeners on it.. but its not bad advice

  • grids are fun

  • your drums dosn't sound verry good but you own man..

  • you need to put a comforter in your bass dude, it stops it from ringing like thAT.

  • You my friend are an idiot! Drums are meant to breath and vibrate, stuffing pillows in your bass drum and taping your toms and snare is completely stupid, and if you are one of those people than it is because you don't know how to tune drums worth shit. I mot trying to down even though i called you an idiot, get some tuning technique videos and you will have no need for pillows or blankets, their not meant to be inside your drums their meant to be on your bed. hehe

  • chill out brother if it sounds good to the person what do you care? there not people their drums.

  • yeah, i go from two pillows and a muffling ring to just a muffling ring in my bass drum. It gives me a variety of sounds... and i've been playing for 13 years. bass drum is the only one I muffle at times. at least check my vids out before you put me down.

  • his snare isn't tuned well. That's the cause of the ring.

  • ahh, sounds like the bass.

  • I like the way his snare drum sounds. I wish mine would ring like that. Have you ever heard soundgarden's "spoon man"? the snare drum on that is how I want mine to sound.

  • could have said bye bye

  • What does that mean?

  • i dnno.... :S haha yeh do get some new vids!, of like.....a step by step on how to play pull harder on the strings of your martyr on drums..... that would be sooo kewl, coz everyone plays it wrong

  • thanks for this lesson I found it really good cheers!

  • Thanks!

  • i like that snare sound more = better for me dont like a choked snare sound / better to have an open sound

  • Sorta sounds like lars ulrich's snare from ST ANGER!! haha

  • lol!!!!!!!!

  • I actually like your snare sound. Fuck the dampening rings ;) Nice lesson!

  • Geez that Snare is awful bro--someone should teach you to tune those things...by the way nice drummin.

  • I get the feeling that some stupid people who don't know a thing about playing post comments just for the sake of it...lol ... Dude your drumming is OK just your bass drum work is very loose almost coming out of time on a couple off moments there. But the point is you little monkeys watching now the guy first quoted that he is following a Mike Portnoy technique , so instead of Joe from the garage teachin u simply type in Mike Portnoy Double bass ..lol

  • I haven't watched this vid in a while, so I can't say whether my playing was loose or not. Overall, I know I'm pretty tight. I haven't made any vids in a while but I guess I should, to show my improvements since the old ones.

  • Man I'm sorry to sound like I'm baggin out your playing.I respect all players and love musicians that have stuck to it and seems like U are really into it and sound pretty cool! I would love to jam with u since I play guitar also. Its just that young peoples naiveness gets on my nerves at times! And love to see newer vids of your playing! Please reply this agasin if u have some !

  • I have been playing the drums for about 3 years on and off. This vido just brought me to a whole new level! Great work and thank you!

  • Dude, I really appreciate that! My life becomes that much more fulfilling when I can pass on anything I can that will help others.

  • i can't even tell you how helpful this video was! THANK YOU

  • That seriously means a lot to me, thanks!

  • Hey,you should become a teacher!

    You are awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow you´re pretty good!!. Umm, how can i imporove my double-bass drum speed??

  • Practice, rest, eat, sleep, and repeat for years. That's what worked for me.

  • its called a Hat trick, a tambourine effect that only rattles when u give it extra pressure and not just every time, ingenious really

  • omg ur killing me get a damn dampining ring on ur snare for the love of god

  • Yeah, the sound on this one was horrible, sorry.

  • Really good, you should become a teacher.

  • I love teaching, everything, not just drums.

I am actually not happy with my performance and approach in this vid....one must start somewhere, though.

    Thanks!

  • asking about gaining speed. Just practice with different tightness of the washers and placement of the feet. Also practice on keeping it steady.

  • what the hells on ur hi hat

  • i think its a tambourine

  • yea, but its kinda wierd lookin

  • God Damn! How do you do that crazy fill at 8:37?

  • That is a Portnoy fill.

4 hands followed by 2 feet.

  • pretty good, for all those who struggle to keep a 16 note constint ,heres a tip, first start off by doing quater note's with your feet and sticks, then work your way to 8th notes, once your on 8th notes trying doing fast 8th notes, then your feet will get use to the speed and pretty soon you'll be playing 16 notes, thats how i learned ,and im 14,(only been playng for 3 years)

  • Good video. You make it seem so easy. This is Good sound quality compared to alot of drum videos I have seen.

  • to learn to play double bass do you have to learn single bass drum first??

  • You dont have to, but i recommend it. I think to be truely comfortable with double bass, you need to be comfortable using both feet independantly.

But this is just my advice, your always free to go double kick now, but you may feel lost whem you come back to single.

  • That happened to me.

  • how do i gain speed for the double pedal any tips

  • Same as the post above yours. Just practice and you'll get there.

  • Play them slowly enough for you to play them, even if they are 1 second apart. Just work your way up.

  • nice video but i try and try and i still cant keep a 16th note going :( got tips? just practice till my legs r strong enough or is there a trick?

  • yur really good dude!!!!

  • thanks!

  • is yur name eric cuz u look just like someone i no

  • nope, sorry.

  • snare sound isnt good,to high

  • nah just alittle too much overtone

  • Um, I wasn't recording an album.

  • Would that happen to be a Mapex Pro-M in Cherry Fade? If so...good choice of drums my friend! They sound sweet whatever they are though :) Nice video man, very professional and you are very skilled!

  • Thanks for all the compliments, apsntney.

The drums are Tama Superstar Customs, Scarlet Fade.

  • dude im tryin it right niw AND ITS WORKIN

  • That is awesome, thanks!

  • i actually learned a thing or two from this, thanks, gunna go try out that thing where u do the snare then the cymbal and DB

  • Thanks, that truly means a lot!

    Good luck!

  • so AWESOME!! and very usefull =)

  • Thank you :)

  • ...I just realized, I need to do a cymbal choke vid. That is one of my favorite things to do along with double bass.

  • No prob. I love to see talent of amazing measures perform, no joke.

  • Aesome. Thanks for the post.

  • My pleasure! Thanks for subscribing to my vids.

  • I don't drum but I like to see what goes into drumming. Nice work.

Love the sound of the drums in this video!!

  • Thanks for watching!

I personally think the drums sound dead on the video, ever since I carpeted the walls and ceiling.

  • Rip that shit out then! =P

  • Ugh...I left some of the "outakes" in there....I'm not gonna redo the video again tho, lol...
