Hello Crystal.

Its a bit hard to say without inspecting the horse myself.

quidding hay usually is a result of a dental issue but i do find that hard to believe with a horse so young.she may not like the taste of it and is being fussy , or she may have an abnormality with how her teeth are coming in. are you sure that she did not hurt herself when being transported to your house.

I have a 13 month old filly I brought home yesterday. She is quidding, and I am trying to figure out why. We did the grain test, and she is not spilling her grain. From what I understand, horses typically don't need dental work until after age two. Now, we have changed her hay, where she was before, they fed cattle grade hay, we have orchard grass. Could it be just a taste preference causing her to spit our her hay?

This was a very helpful video to understand what is being accomplished in your horses mouth with a float.

My Vet does our floats and she will let me see before and after my horses teeth. How she relieves for the bit and any ulcers caused by sharp points, etc.
