Why are women so under represented in positions of power? I would never expect 50/50 in terms of job types, but when it comes to positions of power within different industries men are always over represented the higher up the chain you go even in female dominated industries like health care. The point is our system puts some values higher then others. And those values most valued are traditionally "male" values. I have worked in finance for the last 4 years, with risk teams at many hedge funds..

And if you don't simply compare the average of all the female and all the male salaries, but actually take into account the workers age, expertise, the type and risk factor of the job, their overtime preferences etc. the wage gap pretty much disappears.Men earn more in average, because they tend to do more overtime, take the riskier, more stressful, dangerous, therefore better paying jobs.
Even though, they are completely free to choose, in fact, encouraged and financed by the government to become engineers, computer scientists, politicians etc., most of them are simply not interested in these fields, just like the majority of men are not interested in professional care giving, nursing etc.

Men as a whole gender get paid more then women as a whole cause men tend to work more then women, and willing to sacrifice more, take more dangerous jobs, more willing to relocate to keep a job, and other factors.
While factors for women like children, cutting careers short to have a family, take more time off, and tend to more often put family and personal life ahead of their jobs.

I came of age in the late 60s when it was common for terms like patriarchy to be thrown around. The notion that men "hold all the strings" is way too simplistic. There is equality of opportunity for any man or woman to become anything they want, if they're good at it. So why are few women in government? THEY CHOOSE NOT TO!
Rule by men does not necessarily imply rule for men. If anything, it would be rule by Alpha male (a tiny percentage of men). What often matters to them is what will increase their power, profits, fame, etc. If pandering to men will do it, they'll do that. If pandering to women will do it, they'll do that. In the last 40 years, pandering to women has been much more profitable, especially since women make up some 54% of voters and 75% of consumer decisions, not to mention feminism's influence.

Sadly, you failed to show exactly how he misused the statistics. When you control for occupation, overtime, etc. the pay gap is still there. The pay gap also exists between men and women straight out of college even when they have the same degrees and career choices.

In those fields, they don't work as hard as their male counterparts. On average men work 3 more hours a week than women, take less sick days, and perform more overtime. If women worked as hard as men, then they would receive the same pay. The ones that have, already do.
If you have two applicants, and one has more opportunities/offers due to the fact he is willing to work harder, longer, etc and will receive more pay for these other jobs... and the other person won't do such things.
Which applicant do you think will 'hold his ground' and receive the pay he thinks is appropriate?
In short, who is in a position to accept less due to lack of other opportunities?

Why are women so under represented in positions of power? I would never expect 50/50 in terms of job types, but when it comes to positions of power within different industries men are always over represented the higher up the chain you go even in female dominated industries like health care. The point is our system puts some values higher then others. And those values most valued are traditionally "male" values. I have worked in finance for the last 4 years, with risk teams at many hedge funds..

ON AVERAGE: Men argue better for higher salaries, work longer hours and overtime, far surpass women in piece work, work the more dangerous and demanding jobs that subsequently pay better, and also work the high end jobs, whilst women are more in the middle. I came of age in the late 60s when it was common for terms like patriarchy to be thrown around. The notion that men "hold all the strings" is way too simplistic. I think that may have been closer to the truth a century ago, but get serious. A pure patriarchy is pretty damned extreme. Try Iran if you want to argue about patriarchy. It's rare for any society to be dominated totally by one sex. Feminists have accomplished a lot, but I've become aware of men's issues as well. It's a mixed bag now.

This vid is absolute garbage. What it's doing is comparing the outcome of two different groups making different decisions; of which one can reasonably expect different outcomes.
Politics is a male dominated field. It's not women are being held back, it's a lack of interest.
Why there are few CEOs is because of motherhood. In most cases, it is women raising the children, and the vast majority of women can't both raise children and put in the large amounts of work to become a CEO.

Pay- When comparing full time workers, women tend to work a fewer hours per week less than men. Women are also more likely then men to work part time. When I read articles titles "jobs where women earn more than men" and "women in major US cities earn more than men", it tells me women really are paid more for the same amount of labor, but women work less than men, which causes the overall earnings of the average woman to be lower.

women can also be sexist and patriarchal...ideologies (one's that privilege certain human beings) have no gender they fuck everyone over.
Patriarchy isn't even good for men at this point in human history, but its still the prevailing ideology worldwide, but i do say it is sometimes less apparent in western society.

By definition a patriarchy would always be good for men; and, outside of a few Theocracies, none exist. It's not a prevailing ideology. By definition it's not even an ideal. It's a form of government, and a sexist one at that. To be frank, those that allege the existence of such governments are as wrong as the NWO conspiracy theorists, for the exact same reasons.

i wish this kind of information threw men and women into a 'what can i do to help change this' attitude, instead of a "it's not my damn fault', or a 'it's all thier fault' attitude.
Feminism, like most other civil rights movements, needs big-minded, mature people to lead it. When small minded, self-serving people try to lead it, it turns people off, and makes feminism look, well, small minded and self-serving.

This video makes the assumption that men and women are equal in every way. That they have the same innate abilities and interests. This is complete non sense. Do you really believe that dominance of men in engineering is a result of culture? How about the dominance of women in early childhood education? See Walter Block Video response. He demolishes the idea of patriarchy holding women back.

No, actually women work 3 hours less, take more sick days, and do less strenuous labor. Women aren't doing the same work as men. They're not mining coal, nor are they out at raging sea fishing. IF you care to look more into this, then read this analysis by the Dept. of Labor:

This video offers the same arguments that feminists have been using for years. There has to be more to your argument that this...
1. Want more women in congress? Get more girls interested... don't just blame it on men.
2. Want more women CEOs and higher pay? Don't take as many days off.
All statistically proven reasons why women are lacking in these areas, yet feminists seems to ignore them.

Even though it may be true that women chose jobs that pay less, even women who are equally qualified, in the same fields as men, right after grad school are making less. Why is this happening?

Just do some research (done by legitimate, collegial sources) and you'll come across the right information.
Don't just assume women make less, because that's what you're told. They don't. Look into it.

I've looked at a lot. And I will post them here. They think that up to one quarter of the pay gap is because of discrimination, did you know that? That's astronomical. Do you think the pay gap is going to vanish?
And there is a lot of discrimination in the interview room. Basically, if you're not a white male, you've lost your right to a fair interview. Watch for my future posts.

Here, read Warren Farrell's "Why Men Earn More."
It's an entire book that not only provides your coveted numerical evidence, but also provides several personal accounts of people (men and women) and their personal decisions towards the job market -- decisions that play a large role in why men earn more, and why it has nothing to do with sexual discrimination.
... Oh, and way to vilify white people. That comment could have just as easily come from a 15 year old.

If you want "personal accounts", I have a hundred for every single one of yours. There's a reason why we don't use "personal accounts" in Health Sciences to find a cure for cancer. The scientific results would be horrendous. Why should this topic be any different?

Way to list sources, I could only find one of those.
And those one I did find only provided numerical statistics of cases where men were hired more than women, nothing else; it had no grounds behind declaring sexual discrimination other than jumping to simple-minded conclusions via a small number of subjects.
That's not proof. Numbers aren't proof of shit, just a simple, cop-out backup for a BS argument like a sexual pay gap.

That's what the men's rights movement always seems to come down to. In theory, it's a bunch of people who want "equal rights"-- and that's fine, if they think they're oppressed, let them have their say.
When they call people "sweetheart" and refuse to pay child support for their own children, their true faces start showing. They deny oppression for women is there, obfuscate it when they find it, and deny their own responsibilities.
It's easier to ignore the real problem.

In those fields, they don't work as hard as their male counterparts. On average men work 3 more hours a week than women, take less sick days, and perform more overtime. If women worked as hard as men, then they would receive the same pay. The ones that have, already do.

If you have two applicants, and one has more opportunities/offers due to the fact he is willing to work harder, longer, etc and will receive more pay for these other jobs... and the other person won't do such things.
Which applicant do you think will 'hold his ground' and receive the pay he thinks is appropriate?
In short, who is in a position to accept less due to lack of other opportunities?
And where does the 'blame' belong?

And you don't think that not being treated the same under the law is oppressive, as is the case with how the law views men, in comparison to women? Women don't have to register for the draft, and they receive protections from circumcision and domestic violence, which men do not.

Instead of only looking at the highest earning jobs - also look at the lowest paying jobs - you will find that crappy, dangerous and low paid jobs are done overwhelmingly by men.
