This came up for me on Pandora. It sounds like the intro to a hard boiled spy movie. Just imagine flames superimposed on a red background making wave motions in time with the music and a black silhouette of the Spy holding his revolver and cigarette with blocky white 70s text spelling the Executive Producer's name.
This version is the BEST, Jeff! It's more upbeat, has excellent vocals, and I love the wide range of instruments. You know what makes this version the best? Okay, here it is:
Dengue Fever=Chhom Nimol (vocals), David Ralicke (Saxaphone, flute), Ethan Holtzman (keyboards), Paul Dreux Smith (drums), Senon Galus Williams (bass), and Zac Holtzman (guitar, vocals, composer). It beats even the other version tpacklick mentioned--Khmer Rock & Roll No. 1. :)
To hear the original song from Sinn Sisamouth and Ros Sereysothea, in high quality with no added music, search for Darrenvkham's video PROM DAEM MEN PROM CHHONG here on youtube.
four different versions by four different artists??? i only recognize dengue fever, zac and bong nimol's voices. lol, the intro is definitely zac's voice...
This is the BEST version of "Tip My Canoe." I like the original version recorded by Ros Sorey Sothea and Sinn Sisamuth a lot, but this one by Dengue Fever is so uniquely memerizing! Enyone who likes the original version should have this version. :) Variety is really the spice of life, especially when quality music really matters. This song is soundtrack #4 from their ESCAPE FROM DRAGON HOUSE Album, released in 2009-- one year later after their VENUS Album was released.
For the last week, when I listen to music at work, it has been a continuous alternating loop of an mp3 of this song and "Bong Touk Skat" by Ros Sereysothea / Sin Sisamouth.
Dengue Fever's version has a faster tempo, though the vintage Khmer version features Sereysothea's "Golden Voice".
I also finally noticed, after about 50 listenings, that Dengue Fever's version contains some English lyrics at the end of the song.
I love those kids at 1:50. Trying to copy their dance.

@RoxZie212 The video portion combines four different videos performances the song.
The audio is Dengue Fever's studio version.

Dengue Fever should make a video of this song. I think its way under played, the vocals are awesome and unique!

Agreed!
I like the more "up tempo" aspect of DF's version.
It does get quite a bit of airplay on KTRU-Rice University Radio, Houston.
