  • what a pop song...thank you mr. Dolby!

  • Dolby - British Style God - untouchable and sublime . . how can we clone him .?

  • This is one of those rare songs that makes you feel both happy and sad at the same time. It's brilliant.

  • love this song makes me think of young love lost. it's cool how he mixed keyboard new wave with some 'brian may(of queen)-like guitar licks' and bluesy harmonica in this song.

  • Was Dolby the first steam punk?

  • With all the switches and gadgets - he looks like the Doctor in the TARDIS...

  • This is such a bad ass song.

  • I h8 vevo

  • 28 years figuring out the title of this ........

  • awesome

  • What the hell? I have to watch a neo-nazi right wing commercial before I get to see my TD video? I'm sure TD didn't approve this disgusting crap!

  • I detect...a wedding ring. So WHO is the lucky girl????

  • Great story. Leaves you wondering if it is "true" or if it merely describes the fevered imagination of an obsessed fan.

  • It's nice to finally watch this in good quality.

  • steampunk before it was fashionable.

  • Handsomest man from that era!

  • A Techno super classic!

    Un súper clásico del techno!

  • @TheDarwood000 Dolby noise reduction was developed by Dolby Laboratories in the UK in 1970, by company founder Ray Dolby. The first use of Dolby was for the movie "A Clockwork Orange". No nothing.

  • @bearmare "Dolby" is a nickname Tom Robertson's friends gave him because of how deeply he was into both music and tech. Dolby Labs actually sued Tom to get him to stop using the name. The judge ruled that he could continue using it for stage and record, but couldn't manufacture any electronic equipment under the brand name "Dolby."

  • i mainly listen to rap music, but i can still relate to this guy, top dog

  • Would be interesting to see him tour with Devo.

  • @SDChargersForever oh yeah it would,or may be with madness

  • @doubletrouble467 or back with bowie :3

  • FUCKING GGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENIIUSSSSSSSSSSS

  • @totopatter Indeed . . .

  • Not too many videos from the 1980s were all that great, but this one is well done. Does anyone know who directed this?

  • johnnybeane: "Eastern Bloc" (sequel to '82's Europa and the Pirate Twins) was from '92's "Astronauts and Heretics" and picks up the story ten years later during the collapse of the Berlin wall. The track featured Eddie van Halen on guitar. I don't recall ever having seen an "official" video for it, but Eastern Bloc is posted elsewhere on YT. I have "Europa" and "Eastern.." programmed t0 play back-2-back for a total of about 9 minutes of TD musical bliss

  • AWESOME.

  • I was looking at my 80s new wave song list today and this song came into my head. I'm glad I found it 'cause I had no idea what the title was! I only knew that Thomas Dolby did it.

  • Alton Brown is that you?

  • I still have this in 12" LP vinyl format.

  • Is the 1992 version up on youtube also? The one with Eddie Van Halen on guitar?

  • And yes...mixed in with all my other music (MGMT, Kooks, Kings of Leon, etc etc etc etc etc) I STILL have this song in my playlist.....

  • To me, it was always a toss-up between Dolby and Vince Clarke of Depeche Mode (and Yaz)

  • Loved this song!!! So good to see this video again! thanks

  • Loved this song!!! So good to see this video again! thanks

  • I always liked this song much better than "She Blinded Me With Science"

  • I can remember thinking how much I wanted to be "his '12" when this song came out and still to this day! I just would have made sure to come back after the war. I love TD- he is truly a class act! Thanks for posting it!

  • @camilelcoyne Agreed!!!!

  • How many Bowie concerts? And then he tricked me into Depeche Mode.

  • TF2 Medic

  • @StegRex

can't be unseen. thanks rex. :/

  • Europa and I are the Pirate Twins NOW.

  • isnt this a training video for Earthlink Customer Service? Where are my BAGELS!

  • This is probably my favorite song ever

  • Okay Thus: The effin Rosebowl, Biggest food fight ever. Thomas Dolby, OMD, Depeche mode and more that I cant remember.

  • XTC Andy Partridge on harmonica. Still sounds great nearly 30 years later...

  • Golden Age of the Wireless was one of the best albums in total of all time.

  • He financed that album partly by doing synthesizer music for Def Leppard and Foreigner. How wrong is that?

  • @allmitchell - He also had help from Andy Partridge from XTC.

  • @allmitchell

Pop music has always been market driven and sadly

Def Leppard and Foreigner were indicative of the taste

levels in the US at the time.

  • @allmitchell hahha!! how true!!

  • @allmitchell

    The ends justify the means.

  • @allmitchell Not wrong at all.

  • @allmitchell thats actually very interesting. he is certainly talented.

  • @allmitchell its awesome.. that is dedication!

  • @allmitchell - I often surprise people w/ the TD-Foreigner connection.

  • @allmitchell It's not wrong, it's just weird as f***. Completely different fanbases, you know.

  • @allmitchell We all have to make a living.

  • @allmitchell Not wrong at all. Musicians play music for people.

  • @allmitchell

wow! didn't know he played for them. good info.

  • Incredibly underrated album just outstanding. In Albuquerque, they have their balloon festival each year that starts before daylight when they launch like 200 or more balloons. Probably 100,000 or more people show up while it is still dark. They have this incredible sound system spread out over the 15 football fields of area if not more. They blast Dolby's "Windpower." Totally amazing and the sounds system is unreal.

  • Franz, I work in Albuquerque, live in the East Mountains outside Albuquerque!

  • LOL! East Mtns are nice with the trees, etc. Have you been out there and heard them playing "Windpower" at the balloon fiesta? Amazing. I never heard a sound system outside that was that good. I saw him in concert many years ago supporting this album. It was a great concert. He did his backflip which was scary in case he screwed it up. He moved to silicon valley and his phone music software struggled but it became very successful.

  • @Franzko787 No, I would have freaked out if I heard them play windpower at the fiesta! I would go see him if he did another tour for sure. I think it is time. I bet he would get a lot of people to attend.

  • I'm shocked that the steampunk movement hasn't adopted him as a prophet.

  • can't believe I just got into him earlier this year. This album is definitely one of my all time favorites.

  • God bless TD. I remember watching this as a kid - Looking back now, HE looks like a baby-faced kid in this. Unbelievably great song.

  • You're right, in this video He looks kinda like Macaulay Culkin..

  • @Paulie88 i know what you mean! i remember watching the big match - McEnroe vs. Bjorg (1980?). they replayed portions of it after yesterday's Wimbledon final (7/4/10). On the tape, McEnroe looked like an eighth grader! he was about 21 at the time. its very surreal to revisit that which influenced your childhood.

  • great 80's song! thanks!

  • fantastic!

  • cant wait to see this live!

  • CANT WAIT TO SEE THIS LIVE!

  • when???? where?

  • its in london; look on his site !

  • Oh! but I can't be there. What a shame! :(
