The tiny beige fruit is longan (Chinese for dragon's eye). The whitish coconut is young coconut (more edible than the mature coconut). The small banana bunch is apple banana (very sweet). Finally, the golden mangoes are super sweet and juicy, found only in Thailand.
at 4:17 it's a fresh sugar palm juice which also could be made as a sticky sugar at 6:36 (the brown bags) both of them are tasty and alcohol free even thought the bottle looks like beer bottle.
Thanks for the clip. This gives me a brilliant idea to make this kind of clip for my French students who are learning Thai. I don't know if you have a chance to go to the real open air market where local people go to shop for their daily life. That is interesting as well. I guess that this supermarket is on an island or something. That's why they have more things than those supermarkets in towns.
Anyway thank you very much for such an enthusiastic clip!
It reminds me of the stores in Mexico. I was amazed at all the packaging too. Thai looks more interesting than Espanol, but still cool. One thing that drove me crazy is that in America your supermarkets are pretty much on crossroads or major areas, well in Mexico they're in neighborhoods and the middle of nowhere. Everything is oven to the air as far as breads and rice go.
Its great to see all the different types of food from other countrie. Such a wide variety, I've never been to thailand but im hoping to go there at the end of this year, thanks for sharing the vid
I love asian and southeast asian foods. When I was in australia I was living off of rice and starfruit, as well as alot of japanese foods. Americans need to not only have more choices for food, but also need to open up to new foods.
from pictures ive seen of Thailand its beautiful, especially one picture i saw of a Market place i think they said it was outside of Thailand where you just rowed your boat up to a dock and you tell them what you want and they get it for you
This looks wicked I so cant wait to get there, Im looking at May next year for about one month! ha funny I saw Milo on there shelf which is a drink from NZ, Yeah I read the disclaimer down the bottom as well not sure why others didn't read it! how much Bhat do you think Id need to spend each day?
First one was tamarinds and the second were lychee. You can get them in some Asian supermarkets here in the US. I'm Thai and my grandma always has both of these. xD
Listen all you pedantic haters, I know that Thailand has modern corporate supermarkets. Read the scrolling disclaimer, and get down off yer high horse!
@ghostofmatsubara Hey I didn't watch your vids until now, they're all great. So you actually live in Japan? Why did you leave the US and move to Japan? I'm just curious don't take it personal, the reason I'm asking is because I also want to move from the crap country Sweden..
@ghostofmatsubara im thai and i agree with that because i used to live and was raised in thai land and seen may things and some ppl just never seen a thai shop each one has different styles and things in each shop like one mostly is just out doors and some ar like the japanese ones :P
Dear Ghost, if I may enlighten you. This is not a 'super'market but rather a local grocery. A Thai supermarket would be more like BigC, Carfour, Lotus or something. The original Thai "fresh" markets are being put out of business by the giants companies.
There are many different types of bananas in Thailand. The processed bananas you showed in the box are probably the sun dried variety and mixed with honey-thus the 'funky' smell. The "pumpkin" was actually a squash. Oooops, no space to comment.
@kawilik As a "Farang" I would prefer t go to Big C to buy my stuff. I like Big C because they put the price on the food. I don't want to find out the price of the food when I have it at the register. There is a Korean store down the street from my house that does that and I hate buying anything there. I was in Thailand with a Filipino guy, and he would not say anything and just hand the Thai person the money when buying something. They thought he was Thai and he would get Thai price.
yea, this isnt a super market.... thanks for making thailand look like a priece of crap. normal supermarkets in thailand are pretty much identical to your japanese supermarket episode

What they dont tell you on the packs of cigarettes to go with the pictures is that they all smoked meth or injected heroin into their necks for 6 years. -.-
ive been to thailand awesome place i didn't like the ice t there compared to europe but the best thing you could buy in the supermarkets is the freshly squeezed oranges if there is, the oranges are beyond sweet they are awesome
0:38 - Logan; Brown "fruit ball" Peel the skin, an the meat inside is somewhat white/transparent and there's a black seed in the middle. Sweet tasting.
1:52 - Guava; Green ball thing, has LOTS of seeds in the middle. Kinda gooy but eh.
They have the first two fruit you showed in Colombia. The green one is called mamoncillo, the outside is green but its kind of a light orange inside and the center is a large seed which is bigger than the edible part. They can stain your teeth if you eat to many but they taste very good!
i love my big "meaty" N. American Bananas. Im prolly bigger than most people because of all the drugs put in my N. American food. Oh well, I like being big. Im 6ft 2in. and weigh 200lbs. i would have to but like, triple the food in Thailand just to feed my big American ass. lol
