Lots of wrestling careers and lives have been ruined by drugs, but Hardy and Van Dam are the 2 most prolific examples of it. There's a Rocco vs Dynamite Kid match from the eighties somewhere on YT...once you get over the European rules (rounds, public warnings etc), just admire the sheer pace and physicality of the match, it's breakneck. Also check out Rocco vs Fuji Yamada (Jushin Liger) from around 1987 I think...a great example of Face/Heel techniques in action.
I don't despise Orton, he's so insipid I just end up feeling nothing for him. My favourite ever wrestler, Mark 'Rollerball' Rocco, used to draw ridiculous heat by being the loudest, most obnoxious man in the room. He also had incredibly fast-paced matches in which he took dozens of impressive bumps en route to victory. The public just wouldn't accept that such a fantastic wrestler could act like such a dick, hence his formidable heel status. Jericho is very similar, the Miz is just a joke.
If charisma only gets you so far then Hulk Hogan wouldn't have a career in wrestling. His repetoire consists of punches, kicks and a legdrop but that hasn't stopped him becoming a legend. Granted, Orton can tell a story, but his 'talent' seems to consist of moving around very slowly pulling faces, as he spent an hour doing to Cena last night. Oh yeah, and he managed a suplex. Big deal. As for Matt Hardy, the only thing he seems to be in love with is pies, as evidenced by his expanding belly...
I suppose I can give you this one. If wrestling talent was a bigger factor than charisma, Shelton Benjamin would be a main eventer by now. But he has all the charisma and drawing power of a paper bag.
As for Orton not having charisma, I disagree. There's something about the way he acts that can make people despise him. Maybe it's his anger. But Orton is one of the best heels in the WWE today, maybe moreso than Jericho. At least Jericho isn't malicious. He's just a blowhard, like the Miz.
If you recall, Shelton was going to be given the ECW title many months ago, but he declined because he didn't want the pressure of carrying a brand. He was also supposedly given a main event push on Smackdown, but also declined that.

@hellokittykid9 You do not know how the USA court system works then. Often courts will not even take child abusers away from kids as long as the abuser is supporting the kids financially. Any crook needs a sob story ready about kids to feed to try to get off light when he knows he is guilty and facing lots of jail time. Druggie Hardy will say he just needs some rehab and probation and he promises to get clean for (allegedly) his baby when he is really just trying to avoid prison.

There's a Rocco vs Dynamite Kid match from the eighties somewhere on YT...once you get over the European rules (rounds, public warnings etc), just admire the sheer pace and physicality of the match, it's breakneck. Also check out Rocco vs Fuji Yamada (Jushin Liger) from around 1987 I think...a great example of Face/Heel techniques in action.

I don't despise Orton, he's so insipid I just end up feeling nothing for him. My favourite ever wrestler, Mark 'Rollerball' Rocco, used to draw ridiculous heat by being the loudest, most obnoxious man in the room. He also had incredibly fast-paced matches in which he took dozens of impressive bumps en route to victory. The public just wouldn't accept that such a fantastic wrestler could act like such a dick, hence his formidable heel status. Jericho is very similar, the Miz is just a joke.

If charisma only gets you so far then Hulk Hogan wouldn't have a career in wrestling. His repetoire consists of punches, kicks and a legdrop but that hasn't stopped him becoming a legend. Granted, Orton can tell a story, but his 'talent' seems to consist of moving around very slowly pulling faces, as he spent an hour doing to Cena last night. Oh yeah, and he managed a suplex. Big deal. As for Matt Hardy, the only thing he seems to be in love with is pies, as evidenced by his expanding belly...

I suppose I can give you this one. If wrestling talent was a bigger factor than charisma, Shelton Benjamin would be a main eventer by now. But he has all the charisma and drawing power of a paper bag.
As for Orton not having charisma, I disagree. There's something about the way he acts that can make people despise him. Maybe it's his anger. But Orton is one of the best heels in the WWE today, maybe moreso than Jericho. At least Jericho isn't malicious. He's just a blowhard, like the Miz.

If you recall, Shelton was going to be given the ECW title many months ago, but he declined because he didn't want the pressure of carrying a brand. He was also supposedly given a main event push on Smackdown, but also declined that.

I saw Dave 'Fit' Findley (as he was then known) wrestle in a 300-seater hall back in the eighties, where the front row ended up in a mass brawl with security, and I've seen Jericho and Cena put on a masterclass in front of 15,000 at the Dome...I've seen and learned plenty, now sit down and shut your hole.
