  • Man this is the first video i've commented on, didn't plan too but ya know alot of people are hatin on this song with preconcieved notions of music, just accept it for what it is; it sounds this way for a reason and i really dig it. not meant to be perfect by anymeans. For fucks sake it's art

  • Modern definition of genius= someone who does thrashy, simplistic, poorly played covers of others people's songs?

  • @Eltalstro Definition of idiot = Someone who will simply never understand.

  • @Eltalstro no point in hateing, dick

  • @Eltalstro Without looking at Wikipedia, can you even tell me who wrote this song?

  • I could play this worse... but I'd have to try pretty hard.

  • There's a reason this tape was "lost"...

  • Look up the version by Alvin Youngblood Hart.

  • I think this guy is awesome., a genius, and a helluva artist.., but this suxx., simple as that.

  • He's covering the Bob Dylan version.

  • wow... I like Jack White... but this sounds like shit... And I hate to say that..

  • Zep owns this song, and many other blues classics,They mastered the blues-heavy-rock,and I can`t see how anyone will ever reach them in this.....

  • Zeppelin owned this song, best version ever, the tension and release gave it a real passion that you could feel in your soul. this is just Jack farting around, yes its good if you are a Jack White fan. but a music fan can see it for what it is. Just playing around with a classic.

  • Zeppelin's was much better. still gotta love jack tho

  • That was shit.

I have seen both the White Strips and the Black Keys and the Black Keys blew them away.

Jack White is overrated and he get really annoying after a couple of songs.

Listen to Radio Moscow or Tito & Tarantula instead.

  • @Philtration its a matter of opinion >_> some people really like the way jack plays and sings. it may sound annoying to you but to some it sounds intense and passionate.

  • @erasermcfleafly You are right. It is a matter of opinion and that was mine.

  • @Philtration "That was shit." youre saying this song sucks, not that you dont like it. youre saying its a shitty song like its a fact. then you just flat out say that the black keys ARE better than the white stripes, again, not a preference, you say it like its just true. and you say "Listen to Radio Moscow or Tito & Tarantula instead." as if you know that everyone would like those bands better.

  • @erasermcfleafly I don't know if you will like those bands or not and I really don't give a shit.

I just mentioned a couple of bands that, in my opinion, are better and more talented than Jack White and they get little attention.

I said this cover of the song was "shit" because it was to me anyway. I am not the only one that thought this sucked you know.

You are taking this way too personal man.

I personally do not care if someone else does not like a song or a band that I am into.

  • @Philtration You're not getting the point, and are now simply being the typical obstinate internet guy who can't stand to be corrected by anon.

  • @shad455 Wow!

    You convinced me!

This is really good and I am glad that anon "corrected" me on what I like or don't like.

Thanks for telling me that unless I like this shitty version just because you like it then I am wrong and I am just being "obstinate"

Please go and spread your wisdom around the Internet so we can all share in your pissy little vision of the world.

  • @Philtration Haha! This should be the standard reply to every comment on Youtube.

  • It's jack white's version

  • Thatwas good, you people just dont have soul.

  • I love White Stripes, but this tapes must remain Lost.

  • i know he is damn good and a genius and looks like johnny depp, but i just don't dig his music overall. a white stripes concert would drive me crazy. the songs are too short and he screams the whole time. i know what he's doing but it falls short for me.

who cares what i say though, just blabbing. the dead weather has some good tunes! jack is amazing but not all the time.

  • seriously, zeppelin did this best

  • Whoa, i'm a huge fan of Jack, but seriously, what the fuck was that?

  • DyZeppxJack

  • I'm probably the biggest White Stripes fan at my school, and I understand how what they did took allot of trial and error, and sad to say, this is less trial, and a lil' more error haha

    Still love ya' Jack!!!

  • um.....sounds like me wacking off on an out of tune acoustic in my basement not giving a shit

  • @ChickenFriedHamMan :hahaha fuck you haha

  • To me the white stripes can be either really good or really bad. This isn't my favorite... My dad's a drummer so since I was little I was always told to keep tempo so this rather bugs me. :\ Still like Zeppelin and The White Stripes tho.

  • @peacelovewolf

Jack wasn't going for the Zeppelin version, bro. This song predates Jimmy Page himself by like 20 years, lol. I see your point, though.

  • @mussman717word that makes a lot more sense then :) thanks haha.

  • @mussman717word this song predates popular music as we know it . It was often sung by slaves in the antebellum South of the USA

  • @RisingSon011

Yeah, but it was first recorded in the twenties by Willie Dixon if I'm not mistakened, and even then, I knew it was traditional.

  • @mussman717word thats good . Many music fans don't

  • this is shite

  • tryin too hard

  • Those tapes should have stayed LOST!!!!

  • Fuck! it's horrible

  • It's the mix of the Dylan and Zeppelin version.

  • @Czeppelin you really want to hear zeppelin in this one, i can't

  • if anyone has this album can they message me there msn address so they can send it to me, I would love to have this album.

  • I just downloaded the torrent...=)

  • Just in case anyone wonders, this is Dylan's version, but some older ones were played by Blind Willie Johnson and Charley Patton, under the names "Jesus Gonna Make Up My Dying Bed" and "Jesu is a Dying Bed Maker" respectively.

  • thank you for the info. :)

  • @AnnairbM How did you get this? Its sounds like it was a bootleg or something. Were you there?

  • @thefringthing It's also done by Led Zeppelin! My 2nd favorite band.

  • @thefringthing wrong tis white

  • didnt Dylan cover this song before Zep?

  • Yeah Dylan covered this on his first album...WAY before Zeppelin..and Jack's a HUGE Dylan fan so it's most likely that he got his version from Dylan..not Zep

  • @VisionsOfDylan I bet he's even HUGE(r) Led Zeppelin fan

  • @VisionsOfDylan meg is the bigger fan. most of the time she's the one who decides the dylan covers... or she showed it to jack a couple days before

  • @Stephane333 I didn't know that. I would figure that Jack is the bigger Dylan fan because he's played a couple shows with him, and Bob brought Jack in for a Hank Williams project, and when Jack was making the second Raconteurs album he was talking to Bob for advice.

  • @VisionsOfDylan i didnt know that. did the hank williams project get released? you learn something new every day

  • @Stephane333 I don't think the Hank Williams project has been released yet. I heard about it a year or so ago in Rolling Stone but haven't heard anything since, so I'm assuming it's still being worked on. I hope it comes out soon though. I've been waiting long enough lol.

  • jack doing a little LED ZEPPELIN ....nice!!!

  • check out Bob Dylan's version, too Kbranum!

  • ya need some education

  • Nice...I don't know how Jack does it but he can cover a song better than anyone else

  • The riff slightly sounds like Who's To Say.
