Is this car a 4 cyl? I have a 6 in my Camry and it seems like it is faster than this one, also, mine has a 6 speed in it, goes through the gears faster on hard acceleration. Mine is a 08 and has a different looking status display in the speedometor, I can adjust mine to show different things like MPG's, temperature, cruising range and a few other things.
why does ur rpm's sit so high on your acceleration? my car is a chrysler concorde v6 3.2 high output all stock and with the peddle to the floor it goes from 1k to 6k then resets to 2-3k then back up to 6k... not trying to sound like a show off just don't understand why urs stays above 4k... can't that damage it faster?

cars from japan/europe have smaller engines... they need higher RPM to get the same power as big engines like they use in america. these rpm's wont damage the engine
@PoppaS69 You've got more gears and they are shorter. Closer spacing on the gears means the rpms don't fall as much on shifts, leaving you closer to the powerband at the bottom of your shifts.
@PoppaS69 That Chrysler Concorde only has a 4-speed automatic, so the drop off in RPMS between gear changes is greater. The Camry has a 5-speed automatic, which allows for closer gearing and less drop in RPM, and better acceleration.
The Concorde wouldn't drop to 3k; probably 3,500-4,000 RPM.
@PoppaS69 You can pretty much get any trim level offered on the Camry with a V6 mik8346.. Or at least, that's what the salesman said... @WARDOG4491 It's just the gearing. 4 cylinder need the revs high for more power and because it's got a 6 speed(or maybe 5 speed) gear box, they can afford to have a shorter 3rd or 4th gear. Then when you're cruising in 6th gear, the revs drop to around 3k for fuel saving and decent power for keeping up with traffic.
@WARDOG4491 Depending on the torque output at various rpm ranges, and fuel efficiency at said ranges, the manufacturer may have selected to go will taller gearing, perhaps sticking with a 4 speed automatic to save on cost. I don't know whether this car has a 5 speed automatic, but the gearing is much narrower (keeping the engine in a smaller power band) than that of your Chrysler.

@WARDOG4491 It has a 5 speed transmission not an outdated 1980's unit that's in your Chrysler. The fact that it has more gears each ratio will be shorter allowing the engine to rev more within it's torque curve. The more gears the more the transmission logic can be programmed to keep the revs of the engine in the best range plus it will rev much lower when cruising on the highway.
@WARDOG4491 Every now and then I see a post that I need to comment on, and sir yours needs commenting. CAN higher RPM damage a piston engine? Yes, but keep in mind that these engines are designed with specific components to withstand the RPM under their redline, ALSO different engines have different power bands. I shift my RX7 at 9K RPM to give you an example, and the design of my engine allows for this. Every engine is different, one rule will never apply to them all.
@WARDOG4491 4k isn't really high enough to damage an engine. Over time the cylinders may lose compression a bit faster, but in the short term there is really no harm from flooring your car from time to time. And, the reason why your concorde goes back down to 6k each time it shifts is probably the gear ratios of the transmission. I'm guessing that your car is a 4 speed, and therefore has a greater ratio between each gear.
@WARDOG4491 i know this is old but your concord it has a 4 speed auto with the auto-stick im assuming..and for the camry i believe it either has a 5 speed or 6 speed auto not sure when they went 6 speed... so the gear ratios are a lot closer in the rpm band to keep the car in its peek powerband...i have a 97 lincoln mark viii i got beat by an 09 v6 6 speed auto i was pissed...but if i ever see him on the road again hes gotta suprise waiting.. these things are no joke...
Nah, The car has a 6 speed auto.. The first 4 gears are set close so that when you floor it, The engine stays in its power band for best acceleration..
@WARDOG4491 It would probs be to do with the gear ratios on the cars, the japanese cars tend to have very close gear ratios, meaning there is not much difference between the gears, whilst american auto gearboxs like the ones on your Chrysler have ratios that are are further apart, meaning that when the gear changes there is a larger difference between the gear speeds, and the engine has to work harder to bring the rpm back up to the level of the previous gear, this is only in autos as in .....
@WARDOG4491 a manual that would be like shifting from 1st gear to 3rd gear. what you will probebly find is that a close geared car will be in 3rd or 4th gear at 100kmh/ 60mph where as a car with further spaced gears might only be in 2nd or sometimes even 1st. neither is better for the engine as the higher revving Toyota will be operating under a smaller load that the Chrysler, which is operating at a lower rpm but due to the gearbox the engine is under strain. niether is really bad for the cars

@WARDOG4491 4k isn't really high enough to damage an engine. Over time the cylinders may lose compression a bit faster, but in the short term there is really no harm from flooring your car from time to time. And, the reason why your concorde goes back down to 6k each time it shifts is probably the gear ratios of the transmission. I'm guessing that your car is a 4 speed, and therefore has a greater ratio between each gear.

@WARDOG4491 i know this is old but your concord it has a 4 speed auto with the auto-stick im assuming..and for the camry i believe it either has a 5 speed or 6 speed auto not sure when they went 6 speed... so the gear ratios are a lot closer in the rpm band to keep the car in its peek powerband...i have a 97 lincoln mark viii i got beat by an 09 v6 6 speed auto i was pissed...but if i ever see him on the road again hes gotta suprise waiting.. these things are no joke...

@WARDOG4491 It would probs be to do with the gear ratios on the cars, the japanese cars tend to have very close gear ratios, meaning there is not much difference between the gears, whilst american auto gearboxs like the ones on your Chrysler have ratios that are are further apart, meaning that when the gear changes there is a larger difference between the gear speeds, and the engine has to work harder to bring the rpm back up to the level of the previous gear, this is only in autos as in .....

@WARDOG4491 a manual that would be like shifting from 1st gear to 3rd gear. what you will probebly find is that a close geared car will be in 3rd or 4th gear at 100kmh/ 60mph where as a car with further spaced gears might only be in 2nd or sometimes even 1st. neither is better for the engine as the higher revving Toyota will be operating under a smaller load that the Chrysler, which is operating at a lower rpm but due to the gearbox the engine is under strain. niether is really bad for the cars

Even though it's a family car, it's pretty quick and if someone wants to modify their car a bit, that's cool. The win is even sweeter when a camry beats a car of higher caliber because 1. the camry most likely cost a lot less than the other car, 2. Reliability beats MOST, I'll repeat MOST other cars (Don't believe me, pick up a consumer reports magazine and do some reading, it won't hurt) and 3. People put their time into modifying their cars.

sorry I don't know the answer to that question. I rock my 97 camry LE with 172k miles!, and my colors I think are orange and green for the gauges. They're very different from the current model 2010 camry.

Dude I got an 07 camry le...the only way to get seriously good acceleration is to take it to L then to 2 then 3 then 4. Make sure u dont redline it for too long on the gears. If u floor it in L u will notice a very huge difference of power compared to flooring when ur in D.
