I understand when the people on the video that live in areas of high knife crime say that carrying weapons is for protection, but other than youths carrying knives for protection against other gangs, some seem to use knives to attack innocent members of the public, and possibly steal their belongings or in some cases even kill them, which could be for small reasons such as being in a particular area at the wrong time, so it isn't just contained within gang culture. It can spill out into public.

They're talking about banning long kitchen knives. What's next? Screwdrivers? Hammers? maybe even banning picking up a rock. Until you eliminate the problem - 'violent people', nothing will change, no matter how loud you yell the 'stop the knife violence now' rhetoric. You can't solve new age problems using yesterday's solutions or mindset.
