Special feeling??? Ha ha ha. These guys make me cry, laugh, hell, I have some real feelings when I listen to them. I am enamoured of Chopin, Debussey, Granados, Albeniz, etc..... but I have never heard the like, is timeless the right description? This is the shit, nothing else to say..... Musically perfect in my mind.
Yea,ya get that feeling cause they came to us from that Great Infinity of the Cosmos, and they where ours ,ours alone , music forged from the hammer of the gods ,to inspire we mortals to greatness , you can still feel the magic , if it really moved you ,can't you ?
this song is so beautiful. it moves me like no other song does, and i'm just happy that my dad passed down his music taste to me, because i couldn't stand being like all my friends listening to "popular" music today :)
after all the times ive listened to this bands songs i wish with all my heart i could see them live itd make my heart stop. this song reminds me of my dad for some reason its sad for me but it also helps me feel better about my self i only have my mom left for me and its zeppelins music that helps me through everyday
does anyone else get a special feeling in their soul when they listen to led zeppelin? i can't really describe it, and people who haven't heard their music wouldn't know what i'm talking about, but it's like a light in my heart that glows when they do their thing.
@lordOFbrooklyn there is a state of mind , an atmosphere or a mood that I can only get from listening to Zeppelin. I listen to all kinds of music from all over the world ,but Led Zeppelin is in a separate category to me . They move me in a way that nothing else does . I ve been listening for over 20 yrs and it's still that way .
@lordOFbrooklyn yeah definitly every problem or joy they solve or celibrate with me! anger, love, pain, happiness, joy sad al feelings i have i can connect with a certain song of them that makes them in my eyes the best band ever. U feel connected with the music and can look at it individually and not only if the song is good or populair but just whats it worth in a state of mind! or what 'boston' made a song about it gives you 'peace of mind'
@davidendriss actually I would rather it be the way you said, I feel that JPJ drew the Ringo Starr card in this band...which is a shame because that tends to imply a bad role, even though that is hardly truthful for either.
the style is the one of JPJ and also the similarity of this live with some tricks of the studio version (where he has credits for the mandolin part) makes me think that he's at mandolin in this live.
also, i don't think jpj to be zeppelin's ringo starr... i think he's a great musician and his works was essential for the group, like any member of the band.
@davidendriss I was CERTAINLY NOT downing on him. The Way I see it, Ringo Starr was just a star in the universe that was the Beatles, while the other three were galaxies in themselves. I don't like to play the definitions game much, but I guess thats the way it ought to be, and thats the way its going to stay.
i don't agree...i think that if you can appreciate all four members, you can experience more zeppelin... saying that jpj is inferior to the others to me sounds like saying that no quarter, all mandolin parts (like this one), string arrangements, piano parts like the one of down by the seaside and the beautifull flute arrangements of stairway to heaven are only good parts that any other talented musician could have done. (and all bass parts of course).
@davidendriss I do appreciate all the members, of both Zeppelin and Beatles. I said in size, popularity, etc... I certainly never labeled him as inferior, in fact that would have been you. Since you want to play the labels, a universe is defined by its galaxy, and a galaxy defined by its stars. Everything is made of smaller parts, each individually needed to make its desired whole. My statement was towards an idea that in pure size and mysticalness, the background man is overshadowed. Commonly.
@davidendriss Page is riffing in some zone between he and his guitar, Bonham is deep into the rhythm with his drums, plants beautiful long hair in a singing wince, and then theres JPJ's picture....No instrument, just a queer image of him as he grins an erotic lip biting grin looking directly over his shoulder, at you.
Aee you having a laugh, having a go cos someone enjoys a smoke, fuck me. Most of the stuff these guys wrote was when they fucked. You must be either 12 or had a very sheltered life. There aint nothing wrong with sparking up a big one and sticking Led Zep on. Its a pleasure that life offers. enjoy
i know its said all the time on videos, but i TRULY cant comprehend the one guy who disliked this.. for once i think someone must have ACTUALLY missed the like button
I saw them in 1977 in the Summit in Houston and they played for 4 hours. Most definately the greatest concert and diverse band I have ever heard or seen.
It is unlikely another band like zeppelin will come around.. If i wanted to be buried with anything, its going to be with my zeppelin records and my guitar...
@tMattLZ wait wait wait. i was going to tell you you're wrong until i actually listened to the song. the mandolin playing is more like jimmy than jones.
am i right in thinking that jimmy and jones do mandolin duet on "battle of evermore," and robert apparently played guitar on "boogie with stu", and jimmy played banjo on gallows pole?
i am an artist, an oil painter. when i work i have to have certain music that makes me feel inspired, and only certain music can do this. This is one of those songs/Bands.
when i hear a note they play during a certain part in the song that i could listen to over and over again it just makes me want to paint this note. paint this feeling that this note gives me, Its not something i can put into words, although i could put it on canvas for you.
@N8wood1 my brain works totally different im very analyitical i just cant properly comprehend you at all, art just goes straight over my head and leaves me looking blank BUT i appreciate what your saying. theres just something about led zep that presses my buttons i never ever get tired of them and alot of there songs (especially live versions) make the hairs stand up on my neck. i dont understand it at all but i love to wallow in it. for me they simply are the best band that have ever been
@eatthisvr6 Zeppelin bootlegs stand alone to me as far as live rock music . There is a state of mind that I can only achieve from listening to LedZeppelin . I love alot of music , from everywhere in the world , but they are in a separate category

@keelywearsprada i think it might be jimmy playing mandolin on this recording. the mandolin playing sounds more hard edged, like jimmy. plus the timing is different. jones plays alot of straight 16ths.
i think it's jimmy playing mandolin on this particular recording, because it's more hard edged, and jones usually plays straight 16ths on his mandolin solos.
I love this song, and all their songs from the 70's... they are part of my heritage. There is nothing in the present that matches what they mean historically or musically. I find comfort and understanding in their music. Thank you Led Zeppelin for my history, I can always come back and find you and find comfort. Ellyn
I don't understand how anyone can be right or wrong by having their own perception of the song. Isn't music supposed to be subjective and all about the listeners interpretation. That's how music becomes relevant to you. Personally i think it's about conformity and how what mama always tells you isn't what may be best for you. But my opinion is neither right nor wrong. If you read this thanks for hearing me out
I only have "IV" and the remasters (greatest hits) cds. I want to get the full Led Zeppelin collection that has all their albums, but it costs so damn much, 120-150$ for most if not all their stuff.
I thought it was about race relations. He's talking to a friend of a diff race that his mom says he can't have as a friend anymore. When he says you are from the darker side of town, and when he sees him walking the ignore each other. he says his mama thats the way it ought to be.
i really wore out all my Zeppelin albums back in the day, so much so that I stopped listening to them for a long time, with the exception of this song. It's a truly timeless.
@oribear no those words are actually false. im not religious, but the universe is a greater consciousness, we as human beings are just energy condensed into a very low vibration and we are experiencing ourselves in an individual perspective meanwhile we are all ONE consciousness. energy has no life and death, because energy is always there it cannot die. albert einstien proves this with e=mc2. when your dream is over, you will experience your true self as one with everything
such a wonderful and mysterious - and English! - song! I love all of Zep's material ... but keep coming back to this one cut. And this recording is (in my humble opinion) the best-ever version. Thanks for a great posting!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this was extremely good in every way. led zep never did interviews-- they may not have been clever enough to. they were carried by songs and musicianship like this.
I have to agree with just about everyone here. I'm an 'old' dude (54), and I've been listening to Zep since the late 60s. This song has always been SSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOO powerful for me. I'm so glad this live version has been posted!
ok...not trying to be an asshole or anything, this is my favorite Zep song...I've listened for years...Im 46...BUT,it just occured to me,is this about a boy/kid who is in love or whatever with another boy?...I always thought it was about the loss of innocence, about the hippie generation losing thier innocense etc...
That's part of it, it's also how they were sometimes treated in America during their early concert tours. People just looking down on them because of the Vietname war....
Also, they changed the lyrics from "boy" to "girl" in some of their live performances. That made me feel better, because I was always curious as to why he was singing this kind of stuff to another guy.
well he's saying how he can't play with him anymore. i guess it's about growing up. i remember reading somewhere that it's a metaphor for england and america
He's not 'singing this stuff to another guy' . Iin fact, another guy is singing it to him. It's a depiction of a more conservative viewpoint and how it drives people apart. Listen to the lyrics people. "mama said that's the way it ought to stay' - but what ' ought to stay' is a mentality that cares nothing about emotions, the environment, or making one's own sense of the world. Not just one of Plant's best vocals but his best lyrics.
Thank you for explaining that perfectly. I could never find anyone other than myself who knew the meaning of the lyrics. It's not just the chorus that has the mentality of what you explained, like in the verse, "I can't believe what people saying, you're gonna let your hair hang down." That's meant to represent how people would scorn Led Zeppelin for having long hair. And I agree, it definitely is one of Plant's best lyrics and vocals.
It seems to me that too many people associate songs sung by males about other males with gayness. True meanings of so many songs that are just about brethren are way too often misconstrued. The song is about only what you hear. Don't listen to any of the jargon that surrounds it.
This is Perhaps Led Zeppelin's most underrated and most beautiful tune IMO...this live version is impeccable, lilting and amazing. No band could ever play so heavy and so light, with equal measures of brilliance.
Plant's "Oh...yeah" at 4:43 absolutely makes the final part. I will never forget the first time i heard this live version of it. I listened to it over and over about 50 times
This was a band of impeccable musicians, who could do absolutely anything when playing together.
I credit JPJ for helping Led Zeppelin adapt to different styles of music. He plays almost every instrument known to man! That's one of the reasons they have a wide variety of instruments and sounds in their music.
It's one of my favorites. The "III" album just ruled in every way possible.
bigpoopie69 2 years ago
I only have "IV" and the remasters (greatest hits) cds. I want to get the full Led Zeppelin collection that has all their albums, but it costs so damn much, 120-150$ for most if not all their stuff.
LTWalker108 2 years ago
Zeppelin III is an amazing album!!! Definitely one of their best, if not THE best!!!

you can put in the BBC sessions CDs and fall back in love with songs you have heard other versions for. IMO BBC sessions captures Zep perfectly.

I thought it was about race relations. He's talking to a friend of a diff race that his mom says he can't have as a friend anymore. When he says you are from the darker side of town, and when he sees him walking the ignore each other. he says his mama thats the way it ought to be.

It may seems dark, but if I die now, that's the song I want for my funeral (that and Black Balloon by The Goo Goo Dolls).
Hootshot112 2 years ago 3
i really wore out all my Zeppelin albums back in the day, so much so that I stopped listening to them for a long time, with the exception of this song. It's a truly timeless.

"Everything that lives is born to die" never been truer words
oribear 2 years ago 65

Thanks for a great posting!

this was extremely good in every way. led zep never did interviews-- they may not have been clever enough to. they were carried by songs and musicianship like this.

I have to agree with just about everyone here. I'm an 'old' dude (54), and I've been listening to Zep since the late 60s. This song has always been SSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOO powerful for me. I'm so glad this live version has been posted!
Toyboy789 2 years ago 6
ok...not trying to be an asshole or anything, this is my favorite Zep song...I've listened for years...Im 46...BUT,it just occured to me,is this about a boy/kid who is in love or whatever with another boy?...I always thought it was about the loss of innocence, about the hippie generation losing thier innocense etc...
somewhereintyme 2 years ago
That's part of it, it's also how they were sometimes treated in America during their early concert tours. People just looking down on them because of the Vietname war....
samSGguitarist 2 years ago
Also, they changed the lyrics from "boy" to "girl" in some of their live performances. That made me feel better, because I was always curious as to why he was singing this kind of stuff to another guy.
gimmesomejesus 2 years ago
well he's saying how he can't play with him anymore. i guess it's about growing up. i remember reading somewhere that it's a metaphor for england and america
TheRemedyRocks 2 years ago
I thought it was about racism.
Yodaismycopilot 2 years ago
He's not 'singing this stuff to another guy' . Iin fact, another guy is singing it to him. It's a depiction of a more conservative viewpoint and how it drives people apart. Listen to the lyrics people. "mama said that's the way it ought to stay' - but what ' ought to stay' is a mentality that cares nothing about emotions, the environment, or making one's own sense of the world. Not just one of Plant's best vocals but his best lyrics.
alexandrialeaving 2 years ago 4
Thank you for explaining that perfectly. I could never find anyone other than myself who knew the meaning of the lyrics. It's not just the chorus that has the mentality of what you explained, like in the verse, "I can't believe what people saying, you're gonna let your hair hang down." That's meant to represent how people would scorn Led Zeppelin for having long hair. And I agree, it definitely is one of Plant's best lyrics and vocals.

you were right the first tim, i dont know where you get this gay bullshit from
wwwgotristancom 2 years ago
It seems to me that too many people associate songs sung by males about other males with gayness. True meanings of so many songs that are just about brethren are way too often misconstrued. The song is about only what you hear. Don't listen to any of the jargon that surrounds it.

what a great song, I just can't get anough
of this song. so soul catching.

Just the little things Plant always adds like the sighs and so on especially live just make this song and so many other Zeppelin songs great.

John Paul Jones played the mandolin and the organ on this one.
that's neat.

yea on the bass pedals
Jackts9999 2 years ago
I credit JPJ for helping Led Zeppelin adapt to different styles of music. He plays almost every instrument known to man! That's one of the reasons they have a wide variety of instruments and sounds in their music.
