Marty Robbins wow what the good old USA has produced here is a singer that was brilliant ,the way he stood the way he sang ,i never get fed up with this guy ,and i listen to his music on you tube every day . Paul from the UK .thanks guys for posting .
I never heard the great Mary Robbins do a bluegrass cut before! This is very nice. I always associated this number with Jim & Jesse and the Virginia Boys, a fine bluegrass band and also stars of the Grand Ole Opry.
There are several different artists who have recorded this, I discovered at ITunes store; most of them good, but none, not even the one by the Browns can touch this one by Marty! I have not heard it elsewhere, and itunes doesn't have it; would like to know on which album is it, or where can it be purchased?
Never heard anyone except the Browns do this . but this is great! GOD help people to get back to taking marriage serious, GOD is not at all pleased with all the living together and the like that goes on today. I love this song and the one by John and June Where did we go right, I am glad to say that I love my wife Martha as much as I ever did, this song is for me. Oh by the way I am 67 years old.
@elephantear1 Greenbriar Boys play this. On another note, this song does address excitement to marry, but it in no way condems cohabitation. God is not upset that people don't get married. I lived with my wife for five years before we were married, and I am glad we did.
@samjessin7 Hey Sam, God may not care about cohabitation but you can bet your sweet life that City Hall does. They need all the money they can get these days, so all you engaged people out there, buy them licenses, marry up and make your town a better and happier place to live. Also, if your children are religious, it might make them feel a little better about themselves, or not. Just saying.
MARTY ROBBINS,a gentleman and one of country music's greatest ever singer's his music will never die.marty never received the accolades he should have.but true fans know he was up ther with the best of em'
This was written and originally recorded by the late great (Canadian) Hod Pharis. I met him before he passed away. Never heard Connie Francis' version before. In 1956 The Browns (Jim Ed & Maxine) recorded it, huge hit. Jim Ed and I recorded it in 2004 and it was on the Canadian charts for 4 months (July thru Oct '04). This is the first time I've heard Marty do it... LOVE it!!
This was written in the late 40's or early 50's by a Canadian DJ from Calgary named Hod Pharris. He had a hit with it before it was recorded by the Browns in the late 50's. He was a well known personality in Alberta and BC for many years.
I agree Ronnie sounds remarkably like his father. I came across an interview somewhere that indicates Ronnie doesn't think he sounds close, but we know better.
i found a audio only of ronny and other performers at church street station in orlando.ronny does 3 singles and a medley of dad's hits.ronny sounds just like dad.
Best version of this Canadian Classic by far

I knew it was a hit for Browns, but I've never heard anything that Marty Robbins couldn't sing, in my humble opinion --- thanks for sharing

The fiddle sounds more like Tommy Jackson than Johnny Gimble.

I guarantee it isn't Johnny Gimble and I'm almost certain it was Tommy Jackson.
